SMJHL Award Committee Announcements - hhh81 - 07-25-2020
Hello! You may have noticed a big post in media explaining some major updates/changes to SMJHL Awards moving forward. I wanted to post this here as well, in a abbreviated form (just news, no explanation), for ease of others' use. I invite you to read the entire thing here, to see some explanations for the decisions.
Announcement #1: People get 1 TPE for voting for Raymond Lindsay Trophy (MVP as voted by players)
There was confusion last season (as we were working on getting it approved/discussed while voting was going on. No ambiguity, people will get TPE for this and voting will remain in the more private format that @"thecanadiancanuck" suggested. I'll work with hotdog to discuss the best way to make sure people are aware of the voting thread being opened. If that's moving it fully to player progression, cool.
Announcement #2: Renamed awards
- The Mathias Chouinard Trophy, awarded to the Best GM duo, will now be known as the Nour Harrak Trophy, starting in S55. Congrats @nour!
- The Occasus Trophy, given to the Western Conference Champion team, will now be known as the Linna-Landvik Cup, also starting in S55. It honors the contributions of @Jenny and @ej27 as SMJHL GMs and the longtime SMJHL Player Progression Team Co-Heads.
- The Oriens Trophy, given to the Eastern Conference Champion team, will now be known as the King-Kurczewski Gauntlet, also starting this season. This honors STL's longtime duo of @TML99 and @JKortesi81 for their yet-unmatched tenures as GMs of the Scarecrows.
More name changes possible in the future. Stay tuned and we'll share when we're ready!
Announcement #3: New Awards!
We're introducing three new awards: Best Defensive Defenseman, Most Improved Player, and Highest Team Save Percentage (TSV%). The first two will be voted on, the third will be by regular seasons stats (total saves/total shots against).
We haven't named these awards yet, and want your help sharing ideas. Please fill out this Google Form by August 7, 2020 with any recommendations you have for any of the three new awards. We'll review the suggestions, discuss them along with any ideas we've had, and come to some determinations. This isn't a public voting, just a public request for ideas/feedback/suggestions. We don't know everything, and want to make sure we have the best possible info from which to make decisions.
Announcement #4: ???
I'll be hiring at least 1 new awards committee member, with JHS's removal from the team. Hiring thread should be posted in the next few days.
