BUF Tampering Punishment + Appeal Decision - jeffie43 - 09-16-2022 It has come to the attention of Head Office that Buffalo Stampede GM @Tomen has tampered a player under contract with another team. The player in question was signed by Tampa Bay to an IA contract shortly after the beginning of the draft, and was contacted by Tomen shortly after the draft. While we believe Tomen was unaware of the player’s contract status at the initial time of contact and that there was no initial intent to tamper the player, the actions taken after realizing that contract was in place are our primary area of concern. After establishing that the player was indeed under contract with Tampa Bay, Tomen suggested that the player did not have to play on an IA contract and could opt out of that contract and sign an active contract with Buffalo instead and that he would prefer that the player do so. Per the rulebook, “Tampering is defined as ANY attempt to persuade a player under contract with another team to sign with/join your team,” and we believe this fulfills that definition. During the lengthy process of discussing this situation, Head Office identified some need for change in this area of these rulebook. The tampering punishments currently still include some instances of “auto-firing” which were missed in our previous sweep to remove all punishments that require an immediate removal of a GM. We have been in the process of reworking these punishments, and will be issuing the new tampering punishment for a first offense in this case. The complete change for all tampering offenses and other adjustments to the rulebook will be fully announced in the upcoming State of the Union post, but in order to expedite this process, we are including the new wording of this punishment now as it is being issued to Buffalo: Punishment for General Managers/Co-General Managers First Offence: Loss of nearest BUF 1st round and 2nd round picks Loss of full GM pay for the season Loss of Championship Week pass for the season (Season 67) $3,000,000 cap penalty to the offending team for the following season (Season 68) Offending General Manager(s) placed on a 2 season probation, subject to termination following any further rule-breaking. (Until Season 69) Edit: As always Tomen is welcome to appeal this ruling to the appeals committee.
