OTTAWA, March 13th, 2024 / Ottawa Highlanders - The Ottawa Highlanders are proud to present the team's new visual identity ahead of their inaugural season.
Based in the historic capital city of Canada, Ottawa, the Highlanders organization is ready to cut through its opposition and establish itself as a new powerhouse franchise, starting in Season 76. Named after Ottawa based Canadian Armed Forces regiment, the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, they wish to celebrate more than just the Canadian military, but the proud traditions steeped into our common northern identity.
The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders was a regiment of foot soldiers raised in 1793 that has progressed through time and through the various British colonies. Canada was no exception, and a regiment was established on the 5th of August 1881 originally as the 43rd Battalion of Infantry. The regiment was renamed in 1936 and has since then donned the Cameron Highlanders name. They’re a historic regiment who have been deployed in numerous war theatres, including both World Wars, and are a cornerstone of military tradition in Ottawa being regularly mobilized for ceremonial duties and as such have become synonymous with the Canadian Armed Forces’ presence in the city.
The city's Scottish heritage goes back many centuries. It is estimated that " Between 1770 and 1815, some 15,000 Highland Scots came to Canada, settling mainly in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Upper Canada (modern day Ontario) (The Canadian Encyclopedia). They established themselves over time, primarily in Ontario and British Columbia, and their culture is well and truly alive, reflected in the social cohesion of their people and traditions such as the Highlanders being kept alive.

The logo depicts a classic and traditional elements whilst incorporating the Cameron Highlanders' regimental colors. The Highlander proudly wields his claymore stick, ready to battle whatever gets put in his path, proudly representing his clan colors and value : honor, friendship and loyalty.
After seeing the Ottawa Senators fold due to missing the playoffs for a 20th season in a row and attendance dropping below a thousand a game, the Canadian Tire Center was looking to host a new team, and an opportunity such as this one wasn't going to be passed on by this new management group. As such, the 19 thousand seater will rejuvenate itself with the blue, green, and red that signifies the Highlanders are in town, and a new injection of funds from the ownership group's shareholders helped bring the arena to standard and make the ice the teams very own.

The team is currently negotiating a jersey deal and is looking forward to their official presentation.
This is a story that is deeply rooted in the past, but rest assured, this is only the first few steps in what will surely become a story of its owned. This is a team of modern times looking to compete at the highest levels of hockey, already working hard with both drafts coming up, already firing on all cylinders.
Airson glòir! For glory!
