Double Draft Media - Draft Class Analysis part I
#1

This is a look at the various draft eligible players from a stats and TPE perspective.  It may end up being a multipart series depending on how long I can stay focused on it.  I will be listing them in order of their current TPE per the tracker.  According to that tracker, there are 60 players on the season 57 Draftees list.

1. Jon St. Ark - @Arkz - Goalie - Vancouver Whalers - 326 TPE - Jon St. Ark was the back stop of the top team in the SMJHL which gave up the least number of goals in the league by far but surprisingly still found himself in pretty even split for playing time.  What was clear though was St. Ark was the better goalie, posting a league best 1.62 goals against average which was a full .63 goals per game better than his team mate in second place and .66 goals against better than the next player who is not on his team.  He also had the best save percentage of any goalie who started more than 20 games by far at .930.  He will be taken early in the draft as goalies of his skill level are hard to come by.

2. Arsene Leclerc - @spooked - Defenseman - Anaheim Outlaws - 320 TPE - Arsene is a recreate that is proving again to be a top player.  Smart money has him going top five and likely top two in this year's draft.  In 50 games for the Outlaws he put up 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists.  A minus two on the season playing for a middle of the pack team is nothing to worry about as he is a player that you could project as a top pair defender in the future.  You can expect to see Leclerc in the SHL within a season or two but until then, he will be dominating the juniors.  Also shares a last name with Charl Leclerc, a top F1 driver for Ferrari.

T3. Jonathan Granstrom - @Halkohol - Center - Detroit Falcons - 318 TPE - A solid first year player for Detroit who saw some limited minutes this season.  Take that with a grain of salt when you look at his production of 15 points on eight goals and seven assists but a minus 13 is a bit concerning.  A good TPE earner is always valuable though as the SHL GMs can put their spin on how they spend it to make them a better player.  A high draft pick for sure this year.

T3. Rude Sniff - @Dude - Defenseman - Nevada Battleborn - 318 TPE - Rude Sniff played very limited minutes for the Battleborn this year only averaging about 9 minutes of playing time per night.  Despite that, he managed to put up some decent production for them scoring seven goals and adding three assists for a total of ten points.  A plus 2 on the year tells me that he is also responsible on his defensive side of the sheet.  I would expect Sniff to go early in the first and project to a top pair defenseman who could break into the SHL around Season 59-60.

5.  Yanno Rosejac - @Demolish - Goalie - Colorado Raptors -  314 TPE - The second highest TPE earning goalie played on a vastly inferior team to Jon St. Ark in Colorado so it is a little tough to compare their stats.  Yanno was a work horse, seeing action in 37 of 50 games for the Raptors.  He gave up 2.87 goals per game and had a decent .897 save percentage.  He did manage to have 3 shut outs this year which is impressive.  I would expect a few more years in the juniors will have Yanno ready for the SHL so I project him to get the call up to the SHL around Season 60.

6. Dwayne Gretzky - @3lewsers - Left Wing - Newfoundland Berserkers - 306 TPE - The first winger in the TPE rankings, Gretzky had a pretty small role in his first year.  Playing just eight minutes a game, he managed to score 12 points on four goals and eight assists.  Without much data, it is difficult to really assess the ceiling of this player but the fact that he is a top earner makes him an attractive target for any SHL GM.  He will need a couple years in the juniors to get ripe but once he hits around 700 TPE, he could be a call up candidate for some bottom six play time.  Look for him to play a bigger role for NL next season to get a better picture.

T7. Pablo Salvatici - @Jepox - Center - Anchorage Armada - 305 TPE - Pablo enjoyed a solid season for the Armada who were among the best teams in the league playing what look to be third line minutes for them.  He still put up some impressive numbers at nine goals and seven assists for a total of 16 points.  He's a very accurate shooter scoring on about 15.5% of his shot attempts which will serve him well.  I would think he'd be a sure fire first rounder.

T7. Vlastislav Malik - @leafs1997 - Right Wing - Kelowna Knights - 305 TPE - Malik played on one of the worst teams in the league last season which certainly hurt his stats a bit.  Finishing at a -17 for the season is not something SHL general managers would like to see but when you consider he was on the ice for second line minutes and the team itself was at a huge negative goal differential, this becomes a little less important.  Four goals and eight assists to his name for 12 points is not lighting up the scoreboard but again, he was playing with inferior talent.  Expect Malik to still get drafted high and continue to grow his skills with that TPE production.

T9. Ruggs McOoooh - @Ruggsy - Defenseman - Colorado Raptors - 303 TPE - Ruggs is an early contender for name of the draft but besides that, he has had himself a decent season for a young player in the juniors.  Playing a huge amount of time this year at over 20 minutes per game, he came through with two goals and ten assists for 12 points.  A minus 4 on the season on a team that was actually positive in the goal differential this year is not a great sign as you'd expect either better scoring production or a positive plus minus.  He has done neither but that could just be some sim luck.  He has a raw game that will need some shaping but being a top 10 earner in his class will get him some looks from the SHL GMs.

T9. Sean Gatez - @SewingWithNancy - Defenseman - Maine Timber - 303 TPE - Sean Gatez had a tough season in the juniors last year.  Playing on a decent Maine Timber team that finished with a negative 8 goal differential, Sean finished at a terrible -18.  Playing over 18 minutes means he was probably a second line defenseman and not paired up against the other team's top line.  Like many others in the draft, some sim luck probably had a lot to do with these results but also some coaching/training could be fixed as well.  Earning the TPE at a high rate will allow the right adjustments to be made to his build to ensure Sean gets himself playing at a high level.

That's the top ten TPE players.  Part 2 will have numbers 11-20.
