S60 IIHF Semifinals Recap
(396 words, ready for grading)

This is a much sadder post than I hoped to be writing after the semi-final sims, to be honest. Team Sweden fell to Team Great Britain thanks to the performance of goaltender Luca Del Vecchio and Vorian Atreides even though the Tre Kronor basically dominated the game. Team Czechia fell to Team Japan’s system, as they outshot and out-chanced Team Czechia who did their best to get past goaltender Olli Saarinen Jr.

Here are the semifinal sims and the games involved:

Uk GBR 3 - SWE 1 Sweden

Team Sweden were storming out of the gates but Vorian Atreides would score two goals against the flow of the game to give Team Great Britain a 2-0 lead. Even though Team Sweden continued to pour on the shots, Luca Del Vecchio stood tall in the crease and kept Team Great Britain ahead. Sven Yskaft would score a goal for the Tre Knonor in the second, but a third period goal from Jimmy Slothface would restore the two-goal lead, and Team Sweden would go home empty-handed even though they doubled the number of shots that Team Great Britain had in the game, and had five powerplay opportunities to score.

Japan JPN 4 - CZE 1 Czechia

Team Japan looked in control for the whole game as they systematically stifled Team Czechia’s offense and kept them to the perimeter. Two early penalties gave Team Czechia a chance to gain the lead, but Olli Saarinen Jr. bailed out his teammates and denied the Czech chances on the extra man advantage. Team Japan would strike in the second as Nicholas Owens put home a goal on the powerplay, and Nike Kickz Jr added a second tally barely a minute later at even strength. Team Japan would also open the scoring in the third period, but Team Czechia would finally get on the board with a Jakob Hamr shot from the blueline. However, Ryosuke Sato would bring back the three goal lead as Name Redacted was pulled for the extra attacker, ending any hopes of a comeback for Team Czechia.

Thanks for tuning in! We will be back one more time tomorrow for the gold medal game between last year’s winner Team Japan, and Team Great Britain, who has won many golds before, and to see the winner of the bronze medal game between Team Sweden and Team Czechia!
