SMJHL season this far
#1

Yes, it's once again that time of the year. Season has started, money is pretty tight, but to improve we need to have a couple of millions to buy some personal coaching. So, let's make a media which only couple of people will read, to make some cash. SMJHL season has started and let's take a look at standings.

It isn't a big shock that champions Maine ''Timber'' is still dominating the league. 30 points in 17 games which allows them to comfortably sit in the position of a leader. Five points behind them are St. Louis ''Scarecrows'', which has played one more game than ''Timber''. ''Scarecrows'' has surprised a bit, because they ended previous season in 7th position in an entire league. Good improvement for them.

''Timber'' can be proud of two best scorers in the league this far. Shootin Blanks and William Tree both have scored 17 goals which is a goal per game. That's impressive. Who of them will be better by the end of the season? There are plenty other skaters catching them up too. That might change pretty quickly.

24 points, 17 games, third place in the whole league - Regina ''Elk''. It's hard not to root for them when they have a such a great design. Team went up from 8th position, which was their last season place in the league. Difference of scored and allowed goals has changed a lot as well. Pretty nice to see them so high.

''Elk'' has Rowan O'Beirne which has 19 assists. He and Iliket Urtles are at the top if we are talking about assists. Many skaters are coming closer to them, but they have the most assists in SMJHL this season so far.

Newfoundland ''Berserkers'' has another fantastic season. 24 points in 16 games allows them to have a 4th place in an entire league. However, they might even jump to 2nd place, if not even the first. Scoring team with a great defennse. Won't be shocked if they make Finals once again. Vancouver ''Whalers'' with 22 points in the same amount of games are one place behind ''Berserkers''. Doing pretty much the same as the last season. Consistency is the key?

''Whalers'' have arguably the best goalie right now though. Gunnar Seggi has allowed average of 2.48 goals per game. 90.7% made saves isn't even in a top 10, but it's pretty decent. Maybe a goalkeeper can make a difference. It's his second season though, plus last season he was playing for Yukon ''Malamutes''.

We saw that ''Timber'' and ''Elk'' have leaders in goals and assists. They are leaders in points too, but Erik Erikson from ''Berserkers'' has 28 points this season already. Him, Urtles and Tree has the same amount. They might fight for that points leader status. Ten players in the league has already 24 points though, so it can change pretty fast.

Anchorage ''Armada'' with 20 points in 15 games are in the 6th place. Has jumped three places if we look at previous season. Small steps to make a history. My Carolina ''Kraken'' has fell off a place meanwhile which isn't pretty cool. We lost 0-3 against Detroit ''Falcons'' which had only one victory in like 15 games back then. Pretty tragic if you ask me. Don't know what to think and say about this one. We will see how it goes.

Kelowna ''Knights'' with 19 points in 18 games sits at 8th position while Quebec City ''Citadelles'' with 16 points in 15 games are 9th. Quebec City has the least amount of played games in the league right now. ''Citadelles'' has jumped up by four places while ''Knights'' by three positions. Both teams have improved and it's always nice to see that.

Probably one of the biggest falls - Nevada ''BattleBorn''. If last season they were the 2nd seed in an entire league, who lost in the semi-finals against ''Berserkers'' (3-4), then now they are bad - just 10th position. Great Falls ''Grizzlies'' have improved a bit thought. From last place to 11th. Still fighting to survive and not fall down, but with an opportunity to climb a bit higher.

Last three places - Yukon ''Malamutes'', Colorado ''Raptors'' and Detroit ''Falcons''. ''Malamutes'' fell from 3rd to 12th place real fast. Colorado meanwhile was 10th last season, while Detroit has fell from 13th to 14th position. ''Falcons'' are the worst team right now in the whole league - just five points in 17 games. They haven't got a single point playing on a road, plus their scored and allowed goal differential is -55. Pretty hard if you ask me, since there are almost 50 regular season games left. Only 29 scored goals this far. None other team has less than 45 scored goal this season. However, at least they don't have most allowed goals on SMJHL. Colorado has already 100, while they are on their way to 90.

Colorado has best hitters in the league right now though. Xavier Beausoleil has 72, but Drew Sureshot 68. That's a total of 140 hits in less than 20 games. No other duo meanwhile has more than 123 right now in the SMJHL. Sadly, it doesn't help with getting points and victories.

However, season has just started. We have WJC in the middle of season as well. Season looks promising and hopefully teams will make some surprises. Seems like we are on our way to multiple records. Best of the luck to all of them players, teams and coaches.

Nice to see the Crows back at the top again!

Didn't know the WJC will still happen, but happy that it does!
