Hello SHL, As we touched on here, we outlined that salary cap changes would be taking effect this offseason. We worked with the GMs throughout the season to find something that make the cap matter more, and that all GMs agreed with. The following changes take effect immediately:
- Salary cap trading is eliminated. - SHL teams can retain on a maximum of 2 contracts. - SHL teams can acquire a maximum of 2 contracts with retained salary. - Contracts have a maximum 3 seasons that can be retained on. - The maximum amount that can be retained on a contract is 50%. - Contracts that are 2+ year deals cannot have salary retained until the first year of the deal has elapsed. - 1 season contracts cannot have salary retained on until 25 games in the regular season. - A contract cannot have salary retained by more than one team. Additionally, we have a change to announce to the way that RFA rules are structured. <div align="center"></div> Point 4 on the above list is currently: If tendered, the player may negotiate with any team, but their original team may choose to match any contract below the qualifying offer This is the new RFA rule that will take effect immediately. If tendered, the player may negotiate with any team, but their original team may choose to match any contract that the player accepts. The reason for this change is to allow GMs to match RFA offers so they don't lose their players immediately if an offer comes in to an RFA over a team's qualifying offer. Thank you, SHL Head Office.
