With many draft analyses only commenting on the first two rounds of the draft, our team decided to take a look at the later rounds of the draft. After taking a look at 37 different mock drafts, we did a player-by-player analysis and commented on their strengths, weaknesses, and potential in this league. With every player having some form of potential, a standard grading system was not used.

21: Carolina Kraken - LW Dwight Knight
Just missing out on the first two rounds, the Carolina Kraken selected respected prospect and left winger Dwight Knight. Knight plays a solid overall game and definitely has the activity to back it up. It is no wonder that 18 different mock drafts had him going top 20. We expect Knight to be sticking around in the league for a long while.

22: Anchorage Armada - LD Alexei Petrikov
Eligible hours before the start of the draft, Alexei Petrikov finds himself drafted by the Anchorage Armada. From Russia, Petrikov is a well-rounded defenseman who seems ready to play big minutes in his first season. From the looks of it, the Armada have picked up a solid defenseman to complement Matthew Sawful, their first round pick.

23: Newfoundland Berserkers - C Gavin Wallace
After falling out of the 2nd round, many scouts were wondering when Gavin Wallace would be drafted. Wallace found himself on 22 different mock drafts with expectations of going somewhere in the second round. Having fallen to the 3rd round, the Newfoundland Berserkers took the opportunity to snag him up. Wallace plays a strong offensive game with speed and was able to round himself off defensively. An excellent draft pick by the Berserkers.

24: Kelowna Knights - LW Rotticus Scott
A highly sought after pick, found in 21 different mock drafts, Rotticus Scott just missed out on top 20 and was drafted by the Kelowna Knights. The Knights were sure to pick him up with his strong passing, speed, and offensive abilities. With additional training to complete himself as a player, we can see teams regretting not drafting him earlier. Great pick up by the Kelowna Knights.

25: St.Louis Scarecrows - RD Elwulf Jericson
Being the first pick of the back-to-back draft picks in the third round, right defenseman Elwulf Jericson found himself with the St.Louis Scarecrows. With great positioning and acceleration when he plays, Jericson caught the attention of some GMs with his hard work in spite of his smaller frame. Jericson appears to have what it takes to make it in this league and was a solid defensive pick up by the Scarecrows. He is definitely a player to look out for in these coming seasons.

26: St.Louis Scarecrows - C Grapefruit Lizard
The second pick of the back-to-back draft picks in the third round, and the last pick by the St.Louis Scarecrows in this season’s draft, Grapefruit Lizard. This giant stands almost 7 feet tall and weighs 300 pounds, definitely a tough opponent to play against. In addition to his size, Lizard has the hands and the stamina to keep up with his opponents. Although, he appears to be a bit of a defensive liability with his current defensive stats. Certainly not a bad pick considering he is very active and continues to work hard.

27: Newfoundland Berserkers - LD Jack Klompus
Another solid pick up in this draft by the Newfoundland Berserkers by drafting left defenseman Jack Klompus. He has strong offensive capabilities and decent defensive skills as well. Klompus just needs to work on his physical strength and checking, then he’ll turn out to be a great pick for the Berserkers. Overall, this is a safe bet by the Berserkers and Klompus will be a serviceable player for them.

28: Colorado Raptors - RW Randen Skog
Heading into the draft, Randen Skog was on 6 different mock drafts and he didn’t fall too short of people’s expectations. Selected in the third round by the Colorado Raptors, Skog plays a good two way game. With minor improvements physically and offensively in these coming seasons, the Raptors have gotten themselves a solid defensively responsible forward.

29: Maine Timber - D Will Windsor
A good defensive pick up by the Maine Timber to add onto their first overall draft pick, Mikkel Asmus Sondergard. Will Windsor is a tall defensive defenseman, standing 6 foot 5, and plays a good defensive game with his strength and puckhandling. With development in scoring, which he can certainly achieve with his level of activity, the Timber have made an excellent defensive choice in the third round.

30: Carolina Kraken - LW Vítek Víteček
Probably the most highly rated prospect to fall beyond the first two rounds, left winger Vítek Víteček was selected by the Carolina Kraken. Víteček has good offensive abilities and an accurate shot. It is no wonder that over 25 different mock drafts had him going top 20. All that is left is to be a little defensively responsible and the Kraken have found themselves a top line winger. Great activity and appears to have the drive to play and prove teams wrong for not drafting him earlier.

31: Newfoundland Berserkers - RW Red Arrow
Barreling into the entry draft, Red Arrow almost missed the cutoff but thankfully landed himself with the Newfoundland Berserkers in the fourth round. Arrow has excellent offensive capabilities from shooting to puckhandling and has the acceleration and speed to back it. Although, Arrow is a huge defensive liability but hopefully the Berserker’s development team can turn that around. We believe Arrow has great potential to be a lethal goalscorer in the league.

32: Anchorage Armada - RD Bork Lazer
Another player drafted by the Armada that were eligible just hours before, Bork Lazer. Lazer is a defensively responsible defenseman that plays with a bit of edge. In these coming seasons he may want to work on his offensive game but overall another solid pick up by the Anchorage Armada to help fill out their blueline.

33: Newfoundland Berserkers - LW Niccolo Livius
One of our picks to be a late round steal, the Newfoundland Berserkers draft left winger Niccolo Livius. It was really a surprise to us to find Livius this low in the draft as he was even on 4 different mock drafts to go top 20. Entering the draft, Livius was a well-rounded player and certainly was a trustworthy pick for any GM. Amazing draft choice by the Berserkers so definitely watch out for this name in the coming seasons.

34: Kelowna Knights - RW Justin Keahi
Going rather unnoticed on draft boards heading into the draft, Justin Keahi gets drafted in the 4th round by the Kelowna Knights. Keahi has good stickchecking and screening but overall a well-rounded player. A pick like Keahi in the 4th round is an excellent pick up for the Knights to play behind their earlier right wing draft pick, Simon Takshak.

35: Anaheim Outlaws - LD AJ Patella
With their 4th round pick, the Anaheim Outlaws chose speedy left defenseman AJ Patella. Patella certainly is one of the faster skaters in this draft and has decent offensive abilities. With a few seasons improving both his offensive and defensive abilities, we think Patella has the potential to be a core member on the Anaheim Outlaws.

36: Vancouver Whalers - D Slimey Snail
With their third pick in the draft, the Vancouver Whalers drafted defensive defenseman Slimey Snail to help complete their defense core. Although expectations were not too high for Snail heading into the draft, it is clear he has put in the work and prepared for it. Being 5 foot and 300 pounds, expect big hits and a strong shutdown game. All that remains is to round himself offensively and the Whalers have gotten themselves a solid defenseman in the fourth round.

37: Maine Timber - RW Kyle Sutton
Kyle Sutton found himself on 16 different mock drafts heading into the 53rd SMJHL Entry Draft and yet he slipped all the way to the fourth round to the Maine Timber. From Canada, Sutton plays an excellent offensive game with excellent shooting accuracy. The only thing Sutton may want to work on is his defensive abilities to round himself off as a player. Overall, a decent draft pick and has good potential.

38: Colorado Raptors - RD Sheen Beckett
The Colorado Raptors’ second defensive pick up of the draft, right defenseman Sheen Beckett. Beckett appears to be a good pick up for the Raptors in the fourth round and has the offensive capabilities to back it. Although, for a defenseman, Beckett significantly lacks defensive skills which makes us wonder if he would be better suited off as a forward. Regardless, with a little bit more activity, the Raptors have taken the chance on someone that does have the potential.

39: Carolina Kraken - LW Panda Panico
Entering the draft Panda Panico found himself on 16 different mock drafts. His strong physical game made him stand out which is likely a reason why the Carolina Kraken picked him up late in the 4th round. We’d say that Panico needs a couple of seasons of development but with his level of activity, he may prove us wrong. Solid pick by the Kraken.

40: Detroit Falcons - C Anders Svendsen
The last pick of the 4th round, the Detroit Falcons picked up center Anders Svendsen. Svendsen was on 16 different mock drafts which makes it surprising to see him drop to the fourth round. He plays a good offensive game and loves to throw big hits on other players but certainly doesn’t have the physical strength and speed to back it up. Svendsen looks like he needs a couple seasons for development but has the potential to be a serviceable player.

41: Detroit Falcons - C Wang Liqin
With great potential, the Detroit Falcons selected in the 5th round center Wang Liqin. Liqin appears to be a well-rounded two way forward and excellent potential for a 5th round pick. With extra training and more activity from Liqin, the Falcons may have found themselves a potential steal with their last pick of the draft.

42: Anchorage Armada - RW Corey Rigler
A highly touted prospect heading into the draft, finding himself on 18 different mock drafts, Corey Rigler. The Anchorage Armada are really lucky to have been able to draft Rigler so late in the draft with his strong offensive capabilities. We believe Rigler is a solid player overall and is ready to make an impact soon. Great picks by the Armada and we are sure to keep an eye out for Rigler.

43: Newfoundland Berserkers - G Matvei Stevlaco
After drafting goaltender Cale Amundsen, the Newfoundland Berserkers drafted another goaltender in Matvei Stevlaco. Coming from Russia, Stevlaco has excellent positioning and seems like a well rounded goaltender. Although his activity is low and his skills appear to need an additional couple of years of development, Stevlaco shows the potential to be a solid goaltender. It certainly didn’t hurt to make this pick as if Stevlaco falls through, the Berserkers still have Amundsen.

44: Kelowna Knights - G Frankie Holtz
Being the last goalie drafted in the 53rd SMJHL Entry Draft, Frankie Holtz was selected by the Kelowna Knights. The German goaltender has good reaction time and rebound control but can work on increasing his agility. His lack of activity is most likely the reason Holtz became the last goalie drafted. His move to the Knights might not even happen.

46: Vancouver Whalers - LW Luffy Richard
It was clear that the Whalers had a plan entering this draft. First was the goaltender, followed by the defensemen, and then with their 5th round pick they chose left winger Luffy Richard. Richard is not the most active player in the league but following the entry draft he has shown he has come to play. With strengths in balance and defensive read, the 6 foot 2 player appears to bring a two way game to the Whalers. Good pick up and it will be interesting to see how he pans out, especially in comparison to the wingers drafted after him such as Stein Nilsen.

47: Anaheim Outlaws - LW Etan Merauk
A left winger who appears to have not been on the radar for any scouts, Etan Merauk. The scouts at the Anaheim Outlaws really seem like they knew what they were doing for this one. With an excellent well-rounded build, a little bit of activity, Merauk has the potential to make it in the league. With a little more drive and effort he could even find himself on top.

48: Colorado Raptors - RW Kyle Browning
The Colorado Raptors’ last pick of the draft, they opted to select right winger Kyle Browning. Almost falling to the 6th round, Browning was on 5 different mock drafts. He has a good offensive game but improvements can be made defensively. However, his lack of activity is noticeable and is most likely a reason for his significant drop in standings. If he pans out, great choice by the Raptors but we feel the chances of that is unlikely.

49: Carolina Kraken - LW Stein Nilsen
The Carolina Kraken sure made their last pick of their draft count by drafting left winger Stein Nilsen. Nilsen is great offensively with his speed and checking abilities. With improvements on the defensive side of his game, Nilsen is looking like a steal coming in right before the 6th round of the draft. Good potential pick by the Carolina Kraken.

53: Newfoundland Berserkers - LD Mike Rotchburns
Pick number 9 of their 10 pick deep draft, the Newfoundland Berserkers draft left defenseman Mike Rotchburns. Rotchburns came into the draft with good defensive and physical categories but his offensive stats are lackluster. Regardless, the Berserkers gave him the chance. Unfortunately, we don’t see too much potential and a definite lack of activity, Analysts are speculating if he was simply drafted based on his name.

54: Kelowna Knights - D Robert von Wertz
The last pick of the draft by the Kelowna Knights, they opt to select defenseman Robert von Wertz.  Wertz plays a strong offensive game with good passing, skating, and puckhandling but is afraid to throw the body around. Mostly a shot in the dark by the Knights with their last pick but we don’t expect him to make the jump to their team.

56: Vancouver Whalers - RW Sean Clark
Showing up on 6 different mock drafts, right winger Sean Clark found himself drafted by the Vancouver Whalers as their second addition to their offensive core. Clark has impressive puckhandling, shooting accuracy, and speed; however, his other abilities appear to be lacking. Additionally, his lack of activity certainly didn’t help with his draft value but nonetheless can turn if he gets back to it.

58: Colorado Raptors - C Jean-Uthred Ragnarsson-Tremblay
What our team believes is one of the biggest steals if not the biggest steal of the draft, Jean-Uthred Ragnarsson-Tremblay. Entering the draft Ragnarsson-Tremblay was on 7 different mock drafts but was not too active. Regardless, the Colorado Raptors decided to take a chance on him with their 6th round pick and we believe it will pay off. Ragnarsson-Tremblay has good defensive and physical ratings as a center and just needs to make improvement to his offense. Excellent pick by the Raptors and we will definitely be looking out for him on the ice.

59: Carolina Kraken - RW Ryan Hunt
The third last pick of the draft, the Carolina Kraken opted for right winger Ryan Hunt. Hunt is a 5 foot 9, 170 pound winger with strengths in stickchecking and shot blocking. It is clear that Hunt is built to be a two way forward; however, his lack of work ethic may be the reason why he was drafted so late. Some analysts may even speculate that Hunt was chosen in order to reach the 69th overall pick in the draft.

63: Newfoundland Berserkers - C Dumpstr Chukstr
With a name like Dumpstr Chukstr, the Newfoundland Berserkers felt like they had to draft him following their pick of Mike Rotchburns. His name even caught the eyes of many scouts landing him on 12 different mock drafts. This Finnish prospect shows excellent playmaking and faceoff skills as a center but can work on his defensive skills. Overall, barely has any activity and may find himself out of the league soon if he doesn’t turn things around.

69: Carolina Kraken - LW Joey Gabo
The anticipated 69th overall pick of the draft and the last pick of the draft, the Carolina Kraken selected left wing two way forward Joey Gabo. Coming from Norway, Gabo stumbled into the league as the 69th overall pick with his skating and scoring abilities. Although, the SHL may not have been the best fit for Gabo as his desire to play remains a mystery. All the best to the 69th overall pick in the 53rd SMJHL Entry Draft.
