A Lot Of Shitty Stats - SMJHL Edition
#1
(This post was last modified: 01-24-2020, 02:39 PM by thiefofcheese.)

With the addition of @nykonax to the Outlaws management I thought I'd resurrect Nyko's A Lot of Shitty Stats Added Up post.  Actually it was Nyko's idea because I was looking for something to write about to get some money and I'm bored at work.  And since I am completely unoriginal I have no problem taking his great ideas and re purposing them as my own.  So lets get to it.

For a recap for those of you that don't remember, or are too lazy to click the link above to Nyko's original post, we are going to take a new look at player stats.  Everyone likes to lead the charts at some stat, but we can't all be CCII so lets slice up this pie differently.  My source data was @aaronwilson's SMJHL Advanced Stats Sheet.  I then pulled S51 SMJHL Skater stats and a sum of columns D through BD to get a total score.  Then took that score, divided it by minutes played, then multiplied it by 60 for a score per game stat.  This is what Nyko called the ALoSSAUItOMSS/60 forumula (A Lot of Shitty Stats Added Up Into One Mega Shitty Stat/60).

I did take it one step further and filtered out all players with <60 minutes played in the S51 season.  This metric is greatly influenced by play time and those with less than a full game played have a distinct advantage.  This ALoSSAUItOMSS/60 metric is extremely important so I didn't want to skew the results from players that deserve to be at the top of the charts.  This is serious business folks!

So without further ado:

Code:
Player                             Total         MP
Jason Michel                     1418.849   74
Derek Holdson                  1406.026   103
Cuthbert Coppercorn         1172.235   146
Thor Bergdahl                  1085.035   115
Tomass Veinbergs             1079.107   102
Todd Matthews                  982.980    120
Nikita Semyonov              886.499    183
Cal Clucker                        880.153    933
Haley Knight                     852.456    977
Adam Barron                      848.254    919
Ursin Zimmermann             845.465    1157
Georgy Gorbachenko           837.062    813
Matthew Brundt                 819.019    358
Khabib Nurmagomedov       818.449    898
Travis Bitties                     817.810    1056
Morgan Forestier               815.287    344
Augustus Wang                812.692    1135
Jakob Hamr                     812.512    791
Michael Fitted                   796.467    754
Akira Ren                        792.956    1084

Unsurprisingly the top score here is a player with 74 minutes of play time.  But once you get to #8 the MP really jumps up.  My boy @UrsinZ (the very same one that was snubbed on the Defenseman award this season #JusticeForUrsin) is the first one to break the 1,000 minute barrier.  I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but it's definitely a thing.  Keep that in mind awards committee.

Also @graders - please notice the wonderful formatting of that table.  Mybb is the worst when it comes to formatting data and I want to stroke out when I see a lot of these posts with random columns that I can't follow.  That shit takes time to look that good.  2x bonus maybe??  Hmm

And here are the bottom 20:

Code:
Player                      Total          MP
Filip Franciszek          341.029    635
Braedon Crowe          363.851    750
Noah Johns              364.158    733
Borys Franciszek        371.132    795
Abhik Patel                396.471    441
Jeffrey Santiago        401.418    720
Slatt Potts                407.392    855
James Manzi              412.636    809
Stan Hanson              418.856    817
Jequavis Adebayo      426.333    653
Wishy Woo Woo        456.141    630
Ryan Cvitkovich        460.135    872
Riley Kuse                460.397    858
Lucifer Morningstar    460.400    435
John Forfeit              467.539    897
Theo Golury              469.885    847
Jmac NCheese          481.180    876
Luke McMaster          485.109    1095
Matthew Anderson    489.362    721
Adam Scianna          501.750    1034

I was expecting the best of the worst to have some monster minutes but Franciszek tops the chart with 635 minutes played.  This goes to show the robustness of this ranking method.  I definitely think this should be added to the Advanced Stats for now on.

Lets start our positional groupings off by Top 20 Centers:

Code:
Player                        Total                MP
Todd Matthews          982.9795         120
Nikita Semyonov        886.4988525    183
Morgan Forestier        815.2873779    344
Michael Fitted            796.4671034   754
Ivan Maximus            752.9577632    912
Ryan Shepard            747.6879727   1027
Jan Zacha                  744.4169967    903
Stirling MacTavish      741.6216913     447
Tom Fiddler                735.3148717    959
Daniel Bischoff          735.0707295    1072
Timmo Kyllonen        713.1204742     679
Jake Primeau            694.2528936     1128
Kevin Robinson          691.2936143     923
Daren Loop              687.2207089    395
Stracimir Petrovic      677.3598697    706
Trey Nets                  672.605387      323
Luca Veccelli            668.3488817    989
Happy Gilmore          664.639933      388
Vorian Atreides          661.7801507    1022
Rintarou Okabe        661.2676498    971

Here we lead the list with a few fairly low minute players, but then it picks up again.  I see quite a few big name centers in this list as well as a few I don't recognize.  I don't know who Happy Gilmore is, but he must have picked up his game since I last saw him play in the mid-90's.

The average Center score was 635.460 with an average of 767 minutes played.

Please ignore the fact that the score isn't rounded to the nearest thousandth in here.  I forgot to do that and noticed after I formatted and I'm not gonna re format it.

Keeping with the forwards lets move to Top 20 Wingers:

Code:
Player                              Total            MP
Jason Michel                    1418.849      74
Cuthbert Coppercorn        1172.235      146
Thor Bergdahl                  1085.035      115
Tomass Veinbergs             1079.107    102
Khabib Nurmagomedov    818.449      898
Travis Bitties                    817.810      1056
Marc Palicka Jr                768.841      997
Kenny Creller                  760.321      960
Gylfi Eriksson                  758.435        969
Heikki Jaakola                758.034        474
Ravyn Tedisko                756.266        1015
Marcus Ohlsson              751.212        699
James Ronlain                732.391        1019
Thicc Cheezy                  730.209        821
Andrey Barbashev II        729.325        901
Vladimir Sergachev          714.835      248
Aron Hernadivic              714.269      1030
Bale                                712.536      171
Jean-Paul Boivin              704.892        880
Cal Labovitch                  694.448      836

So it definitely shows that Wingers are scoring higher than the Centers.  I thought maybe FOT would add to the stat and help pad the Center stats, but clearly it wasn't enough.

The average Winger score was 643.093 with an average of 766 minutes played.

And now to the ever important defensemen.  Before looking at these numbers I'm going to guess that they'll be a bit lower because of the MP division, but they do add in stats the forwards are not known to stack as much such as Hits, SBs, and PIMs.

Code:
Player                              Total        MP
Derek Holdson                1406.026    103
Cal Clucker                      880.153    933
Haley Knight                    852.456    977
Adam Barron                  848.254      919
Ursin Zimmermann          845.465    1157
Georgy Gorbachenko        837.062    813
Matthew Brundt              819.019      358
Augustus Wang                812.692    1135
Jakob Hamr                    812.512      791
Akira Ren                        792.956    1084
Zlatan Ibrahimovic Jr      790.313      1074
Alex Petrenko                  784.552    1095
Berry Blue                      778.228      1009
Jack Wilson                    773.342      978
Luciano Vessot                770.726      1178
Daniel Kuster                  762.880      1071
Delver Fudgeson            760.073      1141
Nicholas Owens              757.132      1014
Tucker Centennial            756.280      341
Dank Jelly-Ouuh              752.803      354

Well it looks like the top scoring is lower than the top of the Winger category, the Defense wasn't nearly as low as I thought it would be.  Even with big minutes, thus a big denominator, the D is still strong (that's what she said?).

The average Winger score was 705.167 with an average of 880 minutes played.  That's some serious minutes fellas.

Apologies to those of you who were tagged while I saved drafts of this message.  I didn't realize saving draft pings those that are tagged even though there is no where for them to go.  Stupid Mybb forums.

And before I hear from you goalies asking "Why does no one do stats on goalies?  Crybaby  Crybaby  Crybaby " I'll go ahead and say it.

No one cares
