[FHN] S58 Fantasy Analysis: Week 3

After taking the top spot early on in the season, Lyle held on tight and I have yet to see a single day where he was usurped. Unsurprisingly, the bulk of his points comes from blocked shots, which number 220 in total for 198 points. But even 198 points isn't enough alone to be any sort of good in fantasy. Lyle supports his great shot block stats with 127 hits and 125 shots on goal, and more than his fair share of actual points with 8 goals and 18 assists. On a better team, 26 points for a defenseman isnt bad at all, especially with so many shots and hits. But, as we know, strong defensemen on week teams make for great fantasy picks, as having the puck less often means more hits and more shot blocks. But impressively, Lyle still manages a good number of shots for a defenseman, more than half as much as some of the league leaders. Theo Morgan. He's back, baby. After a disappointing season 57, Theo has bounced back in a major way. Many who grabbed Theo were able to pick him up pretty late in the picking, with some of those taking him as their last forward. As they say, buy the dip! While Theo's stock was down, savvy fantasy enthusiasts (ie, not me) picked him up for cheap and are reaping the rewards. Theo steadily rose in the rankings over the last 3 weeks, starting at 36th, then to 12th, and now sits comfortably in 2nd. At this rate, he may have a chance to once again take the top spot in the league. Most of Theo's points come from his astronomical goal and assist totals of late, pushing past the chaff and into the #1 spot with monkey D Luffy, with 1 game in hand. Indeed, a stellar week for Morgan. Another great example of not swapping too early. Other top players like Finn-Rhys, Bobby Sharp, Michael Scarn, and Henrik Lekberg Osterman continue to hold top 10 spots as others like Morgan rocket ahead of them, HLO a fairly new face in fantasy this season. Other rising stars include Karl Krashwagen, who is having a tremendous 2nd half of the season with Baltimore, who had a fairly rough front-loaded schedule. Now they enter an "easier" part of their season, and it's not out of the question for BAP to see the playoffs this season. Jakob Hamr once again finds himself near the top of the league, after a disappointing week which saw him ranked 40th. For those who picked him up as one of their first 3 picks, it was a stressful week of hockey. but, Hamr once again proves that he's the king of us all, styling on this league with just a pittance of TPE compared to some of the other top fantasy earners, and indeed is pretty low compared to much of the S50 class. But no matter, he's built his player in such a way that is seeing tremendous success for the Barracuda and Fantasy alike. Ruslan Zaporozhets is another surprise visitor to the top, honestly a name I've never heard before. A cursory look shows that, unsurprisingly, Ruslan is a forward for the red hot (or blue hot?) Toronto North Stars, who have claimed the top spot of the great lakes. Nick Brain once again shows up after spending some time in the lower end of the top 50. Among those who fell dramatically, Cassius Darrow, Bobby Lane, Philipp Winter, Edward Williams, Josef Kubinec, Brennan Kennedy Jr., and Elijah Jones. These players were once in the top spots of the fantasy rankings and have fallen 10 or more spaces in that time. Notably, texas forwards Williams and Kubinec seem to be having a rough time for the last week and aren't producing as much as they had been. Jones in particular I think has been a disappointing pick for many, who took him in the first round as he was thought, for some time before the draft, to be a 1OA candidate. On average he was drafted 3rd overall, and many are now wondering if he has time to bounce back? He took a top spot pretty early in the season but has since fallen. I think the race is tighter than it appears. Biggest Winner: Karl Krashwagen. While Morgan had a hell of a week to move up 10 spots, Krashwagen moved up 27 total spots and when you do that at the top, it's a big deal. The difference between 2 and 12 is about 30 points. The difference between 6 and 32 is 50. Adding 50 points to your already increasing point total is a tremendous win and Krashwagen is making the world remember his name. Biggest Loser: Edward Williams. Yes, after a meteoric rise to the top spots of fantasy, many were seeing the writing on the wall. His PDO was high, his shooting percentage was like 25%. There was no way this could last. And it didn't, as Ed fell to 39th after treading water for a week. Those who had targeted Williams to replace their forwards are likely sad now (hello). Biggest Mediumer: Lyle Odelein III. What can change an immovable object? None. Results below.
