Montreal Militia draft recap
#1

Double media pay

The Montreal Militia can into this draft with a lot of uncertainty. Not really knowing which players would be back as send downs or who was getting called up, the Militia went to work making picks for a worst case scenario.

1 OA

Montreal Militia  - Nikolai Evans -D
The highly touted Offensive d man, the Militia defiantly adressed their need of offence from the back end. Nikolai comes with a ton of upside but is a feisty guy who doesn’t shy away from a fight, Like the one at the combine with Guy Zheng. We asked how management felt about that incident and if it worries them a little. Co Gm Atkins said this “ Worried? No not at all. It’s all in how you look at it I guess. People see a spoiled kid who always has to show people up. We’ve spoken to him a ton in interviews and we feel like he’s the kind of player that wants to be the best. There is nothing wrong with that. As for the fight? If someone is going to stick his nose in your business, I like to see our guys shove the nose back to where it belongs. Nikolai is feisty but we love that about him. He’s a winner with a huge skill set. We are lucky to have him.”

11.

Montreal Militia  (Via Kelowna Knights)- Hans Zucker - RW
After Getting Offense from the Defence position, Montreal went ahead and added offence to the forward position by acquiring Belgian forward Hans Zucker. The right winger has a solid shot with great skating ability but will need to work on positioning. A great pick up at 11 Overall.

12.

Montreal Militia  (Via Halifax Raiders)- Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova - G
With Montreal about to face Goalie issues in the near future, they went out and acquired O’Koivu-Volkova in the 12 overall spot. The highly sought after Russian goalie finds himself on his to Montreal. Great hand Speed and Control, solid rebound Control and reaction time, this is a promising choice for the ,militia future.

 25.

 Montreal Militia  - Kristoffer Svensson - C
At 25 Overall Montreal selected Swedish Centre-man Svensson. Strong in the face-off circle, this strong player has some good hands with puck handling and passing skills. With some rounding out in the positioning aspect of his game, He can become a great threat in the offensive zone.

42.

Montreal Militia (Via Halifax Raiders)- Olin O'Dowd - D
The Militia return to the defence pool selecting irishman O’Dowd. Strong defensive player who can pass the puck well. His player type is that of an offensive d man, but he’ll need to work on some aspects to get there, Which he can do.

55.

 Montreal Militia  - Hank O'Callahan - D
Another D man for the Militia. The American two-way defensman comes as a solid player. Strong passer, skater, shooter and defensive positioning, There is a lot of upside to this player. Maybe even a steal in this draft.

65.

Montreal Militia  - Steve Yzerman Jr. - C
Another solid pick up later in the draft, Montreal selects Yzerman Jr. Very solid offensive player with great positioning and shooting skill, as a centre tho will need to get much better at face-offs. A solid skater and a solid pick 7 rounds in.

75.

 Montreal Militia  - Dylan Frank - D
Another American born D man. Dylan Frank is a good skating defensman who has a strong passing ability, as well as a good shot and defensive positioning. Montreals 4th Defenseman selection of the draft is another promising pick.

85.

Montreal Militia  - James Truong - RW
9 rounds in the Militia picked Canadian born playmaker James Truong. A solid passing skater, Truong also shows flashes of finishing ability. The premise in this pick is pretty high and Montreal are happy to have picked him.

95.

Montreal Militia  - Commander Shepard - LW
Another Canadian born Player heading for Montreal. Shepard has a solid skillset with Puck handling, passing and positioning being the top of them A solid pick late in the draft that can turn out to be a late voluble pick.

105.

Montreal Militia  - Bradley Hall -D
105 Overall, 11 round pick Bradley Hall. Canadian born defenseman who can skate well, puck handle and pass well, and has a strong defensive positioning. With some guidance he may turn out to be a late draft steal.

Montreal finished the draft picking 5 defenseman, 3 wingers, 2 Center and a goalie. Not bad overall as they addressed some pressing needs and a strong future core. The upcoming season will go a long way to showing who these picks may pan out.
