In preparation of the upcoming awards show we wanted to take some time to highlight each award and the amazing players that have been nominated for each one. In this article we will look at the Jeff Dar award for the best two-way forward, as well as the Anton Razov for Playoff MVP.

Note: the number in brackets beside each name is the number of nominations they received by the committee during the nomination phase. Finalists are in their own category.

S57 Jeff Dar Award for best Two Way Forward

The Jeff Dar award is given to the forward who best exemplified two way play for their team in S57. This award is a notoriously difficult one to evaluate for committee members, thanks to the wide variety of stats that we have at our disposal, and determining which we deem most important.

Below are the honorable mentions in this very packed field:

Tony Pepperoni (1) Blizzard
Mika Kandinsky (2) Stars
Slap McShotty (4) Wolfpack

Finalists

Nick Brain Aurora

Brain led the Jets (now Aurora) with his incredible two way play. He put up 2 minutes of penalty kill time, 114 hits, 110 Shot Blocks, and 69 points in terms of traditional stats. He had a 6.1 relative corsi, and a high HIT/PIM ratio. His shot blocks were further contextualized by an impressive finish among forwards for a CA/SB ratio. This shows he blocked the second highest percentage of corsi against events while he was on the ice. Brain is a two way force, and deserves the nomination as recognition for an excellent season.

Eko van Otter Inferno

Eko van Otter put up 66 points in the regular season, with 137 hits, and 70 blocked shots. Where van Otter shines is his 52 takeaways, second most in the league. His 52/35 takeaway to givaway ratio was also very impressive, as he controlled the puck more than he lost it. He racked up a +17 rating with a 7.5% relative corsi on a losing team, and also lead all forwards with 2.6 mins per game on the penalty kill. van Otter was a significant stand out among the committee, being one of two forwards on all 9 nomination ballots.

Jon Forty-One Blizzard

The last of the Dar finalists, Jon Forty-One, put up the most points of the finalists, with 75 points. He had 40 takeaways, and only 19 givaways, good for the best forward TK/GA ratio in the league. His relative corsi of 9.2% was very impressive, given his stronger teammates than the other finalists. JFO had 1.17 mins per game on the penalty kill, the least among the finalists, but still a significant amount. JFO also put up 83 hits and 46 shot blocks, meaning he wasn't necessarily a slouch in that area.

Anton Razov Playoff MVP Award

The Anton Razov award is given to the playoff MVP as decided by the committee. While not necessarially from the winning team, we often see the winner and nominees from the winning finalist team. This award covers the entirety of the playoffs, not just the finals.

Below are the honorable mentions for this award, which had many people that the award committee thought worthy:

Ryan Shepherd (1) syndicate
Daniel Smeb (2) syndicate
Akira Ren (2) syndicate
Strom Chamberlain (5) Aurora

Finalists

Gunnar Soderberg syndicate

The leading goal scorer for the Syndicate in the playoffs with 11 goals, Soderberg was a humongous difference maker in the playoffs. With 4 game winning goals, Soderberg was big when it mattered. He also was only 1 point back for the playoff point lead on Chicago.

Nick Connolly syndicate

The leading scorer for the Syndicate with 23 points, Connolly was a consistent and important scorer all playoffs. He was a big reason for Chicago making the finals, and even bigger in their 4-1 dismantling of the reigning champion Steelhawks.

Dick Clapper Steelhawks

The leading scorer for the other finalist team, the Hamilton Steelhawks, Clapper had 18 points in the playoffs. He was a key part of the Steelhawks steamrolling their way to the finals, even if they sputtered when pitted against the Syndicate.

The winners of these awards will be announced at the S57 SHL Awards, Feb 10th! Stay tuned!

If only that meant something in sim leagues.

It was a really close vote, you lost by only 2 votes! You had an excellent season, and a well deserved nomination, for what it is worth Smile

I appreciate that, pal. I lost votes on user bias probably but it still sucks to lose like that. Though least I did get nominated so SHL is better than ISFL at least lol

No you lost to a guy that had considerably more goals, more take aways, more hits, more shot blocks and who actually played PK1 rather than mooching it on the second unit.
