Recap of Dionne first year
#1

After the first season of Anthony Dionne in the SMJHL, it’s time to do a wrap up of his career so far.

All begin at the WJC in S64 when Team British Isles needed a goalie and had to pick someone who had never played a game at the pro level yet, but to know more about his history : HERE .
British Isles is not a juggernaut compare to the other teams, so he knows that he will have to surpass himself to give a chance to his team. Only one win in the tournament (regular season), but he really had great stats so his mission to help his team was successful. With only 6 games played, his stats were good: 16 goals against (10th), a 5.76 goals saved above average (1st), 232 saves (6th), a goal against average of 3.05 (14th) and a 93.5% save percentage (3rd). He was satisfied with his performance and he hopped that it will help his draft stock.

There were some teams that reached out to know more about him and what they should expect about his career. A lot of goalies were available in that draft, so no goalie was drafted in the first round. In the 36th rank, the St Louis Scarecrows pick him after being the fourth goalie picked. To know more about the draft of the team: HERE

It was clear to him that he will be the backup goalie for at least the first season and maybe the second one too. Overall, the St Louis Scarecrows were a middle team and that is exactly where they finish the season at the 6th rank. The first half of the season was really great for the team with Joshua CorcoranTwitch carrying the team on his shoulder, put decided to leave the team for personal reasons at that moment. Dionne takes the lead position and try his best to continue the performance of Joshua and keep the Crows at the top of the standing. After the 66 games, St Louis had 38 victories for a total of 78 pts, one short of the Colorado at the 5th position. On a more personal note, Dionne had a relatively good season for a rookie. When we compare his stats with the other rookies, he’s in the third position (ex-aequo) for most win (13), seven for the goals against average (3.60) and last for the save percentage (88.0%).
The playoffs begin and St Louis had to beat Great Falls in the first round. They finish 11th in the standing, so the Crows had the advantage and the pressure to win. That’s what they did in four games: 5-2, 2-0 (first shootout of Dionne in his career), 4-3 (in OT) and 6-4. In the second round, the team faced the hometown team of their goalie, the Québec Citadelles. They finish at the second position, so the powerhouse are expected to win. The Crows lacked firepower in offense and defense and were eliminated in 5 games: 4-6, 2-4, 5-2 (the only win, and it was in front of his family and friends in Québec), 4-7 and 2-5. So after 8 games played, he finished with 5 wins (5th), a 3.22 goals against average (6th), a 1.33 goals saved above average (8th), 206 saves (7th), an 88.8% save percentage and 1 shootout (one of the four goalies to get one).

After the S65 season, Team North America called him to get back in front of the net. It was a really young team with at least 10 players who will get drafted in a couple of weeks, so the goalies are expected to see a lot of pucks. A lot of pucks are not even strong words for that because the two goalies were at the top of the most saves in the tournament with 297 for Dionne and 320 for Bouchard. Of course, no win for Team North America with 9 games (on 12) who finish with 4 or more goals differential. Tough tournament for the team and Dionne, but he will get over it and hopped for a better one next year.

The first season is finish, so it’s time for the SHL draft! Before the draft, Dionne was in the top 5 in the TPE rank with two other goalies. So it was not clear which goalie will be picked first, so there were some nervousness and excitement to where we will go. There are not a lot of teams who needed a goalie, so it was hard to know where Dionne will land to continue his career. One of the team who he’s had more interest finally pick him at the 12th rank and claim him as the first goalie of the draft! The Texas Renegades needed a goalie for the future, so the young goalie will continue to play south of his last team (Québec, St Louis, Texas). The management expect him to play the next season in the SMJHL (S66) and after that we will see. It’s almost certain that he will have to play a third season in Missouri before going to Texas. The Renegades have a long history and after winning in S62 and being unable to pass the second round, are in a rebuild process to be back at the top.

For S66 in St Louis, the hope of a great run in playoffs is there, and after we are able to get a first center, we can do some damage if FHM8 don’t fuck us like in our first game of the season. Dionne is now the first goalie and he will have the pressure to bring his team to the promise land.
