S33 PT 4: Team Players
#16

Jakub Trocheck is having an exceptional rookie season and he has proved that he is one of. He had a rough start this season but he was able catch up with the pro players. In 36 games, he is fourth in shot blocking with 50 and he has 16 points. He is only 4 shot blocks behind the first place and he has 20 more than the third rookie leader in shots block. He also average 22.28 minutes per game, the second most by rookies. This number proves that he’s playing at a higher level than the others rookies and he has the potential to be a superstar in the upcoming years. The most important thing he does is being the most active in the locker room of the Detroit Falcons. There’s one who have worked more than him. He has proved that he is one the most important player on the team, on and off the ice. That’s only just the beginning for him. I can see him be the player in the world.

Nick Dupuis was picked up relatively late in the SMJHL Entry Draft but has shown sparks of brilliance as a Defensive Defensemen. He is second in penalty minutes on the team with 43, showing that he has grit and drive in the corners and surrounding areas. He is second on the team with 48 hits (fucking Hale again) showing once again that brute force and drive, grittiness etc. No doubt he's been a warrior for the Firebirds this season. Along with the warrior category he hasn't been shy of throwing his body in front of the puck, blocking 26 shots, good enough for third on the team. One surprise for the rookie defensemen is that he is 9th in rookie scoring, just trailing Jakub Trochek for 8th overall by 3 points. This guy will no doubt be an absolute brute back there for seasons to come, SHL teams should be on the lookout for this kid.

Teddy Kesler

You can’t measure the contribution of a captain like Teddy Kesler.  When you look at his season stats they won’t jump off the page at you.  His nine goals this season are barely enough to warrant celebration, there are rookies to this point with more goals then Kesler.  His +/- isn’t terrible at -1, however it’s hardly worth mentioning compared to some of the other major stars in the world of junior hockey.  No, what Teddy Kesler brings to the table is immeasurable.  He brings the kind of cool, calm and collected demeanor that seems to bring peace to an entire locker room in the most dire of situations.  His tendency for big plays at key moments has been a big reason for the Mammoths potential return to the SMJHL playoffs this season.  It seems that just when things are marked for their worst, Kesler comes up big.  Even though his name isn’t won heard consistently night to night, his intangibles are that of a true leader and team player.  So while some people may never care about Kesler’s mediocre 34 hits this year, his value to the Colorado Mammoths is immeasurable.

When it comes to elite defenceman who know how to bury the puck, Maverick O'Dooley is always in the conversation. The Mammoths defenceman has put up 29 points so far this season, which ranks him 3rd among all defenceman in the league. His 5 goals also ranks him first among the top four point getting defenceman in the league. He is third on the Mammoths in scoring and first in assists, shots by defenceman, and has put up double digit points while on the powerplay (3 goals, 7 assists) Something else that makes O'Dooley so valuable is the fact that he only has 3 penalties so far this whole season, all three of them being minors. The amount of special teams time on ice he gets should also be noted. Not only is he a force on the power play, but he is also on the teams first penalty kill unit.

Jakub Trocheck can be considered an interesting prospect. Highly regarded for both his work ethic and his fantastic skating ability, most scouting reports said the rest of his game was extremely weak. This however did not concern the Falcons. The Falcons selected Trocheck 5th overall and have been reaping the benefits. The defender has shown that he's much more than just skating ability and is infact solid in both his own zone and the offensive zone.

With 4 goals and 15 assists, Trocheck has displayed strong scoring and passing ability. He can set guys up and find lanes, making him a dangerous threat on an already high scoring Falcons blueline. He's no slouch in his own zone. With 53 shot blocks, he sacrifices his own body to make sure his goaltender doesn't have to worry.

The once put down prospect has proven his detractors wrong and looks like a coaches dream. The scary part? He's only getting better.
