Austria defies sites predictions S39

If you didn't know a thing about the IIHF and happened to glance over the IIHF prediction task you would have thought that Austria getting past this seasons round robin tournament was all but an impossible task. No one outside of the Austrians themselves had this country in division A's top 4 teams!.. and early on in this competition it looked as though those predictions were correct as team Austria got off to an erratic start. A difficult loss to Latvia in-game 3 where we outshot them 45-26 followed by an 11-5 trouncing at the hands of mother Russia had this 2-3 team shaking their heads in disbelief.

But Austria knew they had the talent and were confident in the line up.. So between games 5-6 the coaches went through the game film and concluded that the missing ingredient was the need for a more focused defensive game as the players were a bit too sloppy with there defensive assignments..we implemented that change, the players bought into the tweak in methodology and we began an in tourney correction that propelled us up the standings! A more aware roster payed instant dividends for star netminder Jordin FourFour Jr who won 5 of his next 6 games while giving up no more than 2 goals in just 1 of those match ups!

The IIHF's smallest nation was led by Jon Ross who scored 10 points in 10 games with major contributions from each and every player in the lineup! including our rookies Mikhail Lokitonov, Gabriel Wong and Michael Fischer who each scored their first points in international play!

Team Austria (6-4) will move into the S39 IIHF Medal Rounds and take on Team Finland... two countries that knows each other well as this will be there 3rd straight medal round meeting.

the Lord-Vader dome in Vienna will be hosting a Trinotron party for the first 18,200 to attend! for tickets to this event call 1-888-AUSTRIA

don’t worry, the mighty Finland have fallen to an upstart before (albeit in the round robin stages)
