S42 PT #3 - Branching Out

After not getting the payday he expected from his SHL team, Crawfling decided he needs to diversify his earnings. During his time traveling for the SMJHL and bouncing up to the SHL, Crawfling has been to a lot of new cities this season. In addition to being a hockey goalie, he is also a hockey fan. He often requests the jerseys of opponents he looks up to and friends on other teams. Crawfling partnered with a maker of high end leather wallets to create a line of luxury wallets lined with part of an SHL game worn jersey. Each wallet is unique, with a different part of an authentic jersey on the inside of every one. Wallets with team crests or parts of names and numbers are more rare, and can be quite pricey. Each wallet comes with the name of the player who wore the jersey, as well as what game it was last worn in.

Finn Kruger is nothing if not a lover of exotic foods. Whether it's across the world for international hockey, or just wandering through North America on their many road trips, Krugs has tasted a wide variety of different foods. With that in mind, Finn's new venture into the business world is opening up an Italian restaurant in Hamilton. He's not going to run the place, obviously, but his name is on the front and his face is on the advertising.

Here's the thing--people love when an athlete endorses something, because it makes them feel like they'll be just as wildly cool as that athlete when they use it. So if Finn Kruger says that this is the best Italian food in Canada, who the hell's going to question him? If the defensive superstar says so, clearly he's right! And with that in mind, the location will be as close to the rink as possible, to promote an easy to access restaurant for home and away fans alike. It's a sure seller, I'll fuckin tell you that.

After bouncing around three teams in the SHL between the last two seasons, Duce has started to wonder if he's got a future in hockey. In an effort to diversify his portfolio, he's taken to something completely away from hockey. He's started a pipe fabrication shop. Duce has a friend who works in the plumbing industry and has heard countless nightmares about how terrible the companies are at filling orders properly, and has decided that this might be an obscure way to make a living after his hockey days are done. Luckily, signing a 3 year contract gave him the money to put down and start the company, invest in equipment, and hire some good workers. When asked why he would venture so far away from hockey with this business idea, his response was pretty easy to understand. "People encourage college athletes to finish school so they have a life after sports. I didn't do that. But, I am in a position to make sure I'm financially stable after I retire, and to still take care of my family. Hockey is great, but it's temporary. They aren't."

Coming off his legendary boxing fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr, Conor McGregor has started the groundwork for his brand new entertainment and sports company called McGregor Sports and Entertainment. Obviously being an entertainment and sports company there isn’t a physical retail space, nor is it a physical product that one can bring directly into their homes. However, McGregor Sports and Entertainment will try and establish a foothold in creating a stable of the best combat sports fighters under a single banner, and McGregor will both represent and market all their fights if they are to sign up under his new banner and business. This is very similar to what Floyd Mayweather Jr has established with his already successful Mayweather Promotions company. As to how it would connect with the SHL and the Buffalo Stampede, obviously McGregor and Stampede management and ownership would work something out to get free advertisement for McGregor Sports and Entertainment, in exchange for a few good fights a year in the arena the Stampede currently play their games in. Hopefully as McGregor’s on ice success with the Stampede continues, so will have venture into the entertainment and sports business be equally successful, as well.

With Abes rumored to be retiring at the end of the season, he has been venturing different business opportunities for himself. One opportunity that had really come to his mind is a sake business under his name. Sake is a Japanese rice wine which is Japan's national drink and it is often served with a special ceremony. Even though it is Japan's national drink, you don't really see it much outside of Japan produced or imported. Abes' goal is to produce his own line of sake and use his name in order to promote the product in all SHL cities. The line will go through an initial trial run in Abes SHL city of Hamilton and if successful will expand to the other 13 SHL cities and his home of Japan. Japan and Canada will be considered a massive market for the player as they are the two countries where the player has a massive fan base.

Joshua Woodcroft has managed his own business since his first contract came in and has been running a steady profit each year so far as he grows his business. What is this Company you may ask? Well I have set up a Hockey Equipment store in order to best serve my expertise and my customers. We have two skate sharpening grinders in which we have multiple trained staff along with a specially trained individual who customizes your skate sharpening to your stride. On top of that, with current sponsorships, gear that we purchase straight from the manufacturer is discounted by an additional five percent which really helps drive the profit margins home. In addition, it is in itself great for bringing in more people when you have an owner playing in the SHL and on top of that, we give part time jobs to the rookies tying skates for underprivileged kids

Shooter has an elite golf course business that is open to elite golfers, athletes, and celebrities. You can be paired together with friends, or you can be mixed in with the others and try to make new friends (or more). This is great for SHL players that don't make the playoffs, as they get an early bird special and get to play half off for the whole season. The champions get a free round of golf as well. Don't think the SMJHL juniors are off the hook either, as they get employed as caddies and are invited to all the parties as the golfers. Shooters golf course is also an official sponsor of the Calgary Dragons, so you know he's committed to cowtown.
