The Whalers, while they have lost quite a few of their players to either call-ups or the 5 SMJHL season limit, still look like a strong team coming into next season. First of all, they have a very stacked defense, consisting of several very skilled veteran players like Geoff Moore, Tokek Takshak, Buck Maverick and Noah Nowes, as well as some SMJHL newcomers - Tauras Karazija as well as Barret McCarthy. The Whalers' goaltending is also one of, if not the best in the league - they've got a great goalie duo of Johannes Leitner and Greg Santos. Leitner is going into his second season on the Whalers - his first as a starter - meanwhile Santos has been a cornerstone of the Whalers for a few seasons now, having been their starter last season. While Santos is playing as a backup, he's still very good, as demonstrated by some of his performances in the Four Star Cup final where he almost single-handedly saved his team in some of the games. Lastly, you can't talk about the Whalers without mentioning their great offense. Their star player is Latvian SMJHL veteran Ēriks Skalbergs. Last season, Skalbergs put up 52 points - the only player to score above a point per game that season. He is also one of the frontrunners for the S42 MVP award - both the public vote and the commitee voted one. Of course, Skalbergs isn't the only good thing about Vancouver's offense - they've got many other great players like David Kastrba, Herb Robert and Luke Thomason.
