S46 PT #3 - The Red Carpet

Even though he was not nominated for anything this season, Daniel Karlsson made sure he made a big impression at the S45 SHL Awards Show, as it is the height of the hockey social calendar and not something to be missed. His date for the evening was the sister of a particular Buffalo Stampede defenseman who will remain unnamed for the purposes of this article, although nothing untoward happened and both parties had a very enjoyable night. Karlsson wished to obtain the weird gold outfit Cee-Lo Green wore to an awards show a few years previously but as this was unavailable for purchase he settled for an expensive Louis Vuitton suit and a Patek Philippe watch. Daniel had a very enjoyable evening watching his good friend Thè Dude secure the Stevens trophy and of course, another very good friend in Louie Garrett receive the Karpotsov and the MVP trophy. Daniel cut a suave figure on the red carpet and all in all had a great time.

For the S45 Awards show, Nathan Explosion was getting ready for a crowdbath. He knew the gig, being on countless red carpets when he and his former bandmates from Dethklok were invited to mundous events. He had the blackest black times infinity tuxedo and this time he spared the white makeup on his face as he tought San Diego might be pretty hot even in February. He was wondering who would be the first to interview him on the carpet and how many of his fellow fans would knee down to his presence.

Turns out Explosion's expectations were a bit too high. Nobody interviewed him and even less people bowed down to him. After all, he was only an SMJHL rookie playing behind future SHL stars in Kelowna. Also turns out Dethklok fans aren't into hockey at all. The disapointment he fell gave him a smile altough, he knew he could write a song about this experience and turn it into a worldwide musical hit when his hockey career is on hold.

Nicolas Fleming arrived at the S45 SMJHL awards show in a fitted dark blue suit along with some dress pants to match. Flem didn't break the bank for today but he certainly didn't show up looking like a bum either. He showed up to the red carpet in a custom four door 68 Chevelle along with his friend and roommate Isaac Yamada and his half brother and best friend Ty Hoover. All three walked the red carpet with swagger. Ty Hoover was nominated for the Brandon Holmes Trophy given to the best defensive forward in the SMJHL while Nicolas Fleming was nominated for the Brodie Witzel Trophy which is awarded to the Playoffs MVP. After having a blast at the show Yamada directed the boys to a local pub to grab some comfort food and drinks to cap off the night. Yamada despite not being nominated for any awards went on all night about how he was robbed by the system and that he's going to take Alex Jones supplements next season to aid in his performance. No idea how that's going to go for him.

Barret McCarthy did what most people his age do when they are invited to an event. He forgot, showed up late, and was incredibly under dressed for the occasion. McCarthy isn't made for the red carpet, he never was. He just wants to play hockey, and some video games too, let's not forget those. Luckily by the time he arrived, which was a full hour late, the media had mostly left, so he was able to enter easily without anyone really noticing. Wearing just a simple button up collared long sleeve from Target and some black cargo pants he isn't totally sure were clean, Barret took his seat midway through the charity gala for the SPCA, and sent them a larger donation than he might have, feeling bad for his tardiness and unkempt appearance. Luckily for him, the meal was delicious, and he was seated with some very nice celebrities who also looked as if they just crawled out of bed.

Alex Winters arrived to the S45 SHL Awards on foot. Having flown in from Manhattan the day before with his then fiancee, their hotel was just around the corner from the venue. Wearing a suit tailored by esteemed fashion house Brioni, Winters didn't get a ton of questions walking down the red carpet. Once he was inside the event, they quickly found their seats which were near fellow nominees for the Jesster Award Luke Thomason, Craig Finley, and Johannes Leitner. After chitchatting with them for a bit before the event started, Alex quickly was called to the stage after winning the Jesster for Rookie of the Year. Because someone decided that award winners needed to take a couple dozen photos after winning their trophies, Alex finally made it back to his seat about halfway through the show. Falling asleep somewhere between a very boring monologue and another award, Alex was eventually woken up by his fiancee to collect their trophy and head out to a much more entertaining event: dinner.

The SHL award show is always a big deal, even though television doesn’t really make it one for obvious reasons, but for the players like Artemi Berezin, its always one that is circled on the calendar for months.

Artemi Berezin had his best year in the SHL last year, still not nominated for any awards, but he was glad to get the invite anyway. This year the fanboy Wolfpack all rented a limo to go and be Tigs entourage as he accepted some nice hardware. And with that entourage spirt in mind all the Wolfpack members were dressed in black tuxes to make Tig stand out and look important.

Berezin was also asked that why in his prime of his career has he chosen to stay with the re-building Wolfpack, and what it is like having a former champion for an agent?

“Prime or not of my career, I still love it here in New England. The new regime that took over has done a great job in bringing great pieces in and it should excite them and me for the future of this team. Obviously, I have to chase Morenov’s cups, but I think my one season I had more points then his career, so I rub that in when I can! “

Boris Denisovich came to the award show with his best friend. They stepped out from his friend year 1998 Lada samara. Media were writing big articles about SHL star coming to red carpet with old cheap car. Boris wanted the media's attention and he got it. Few reporters came to interview him and all they asked was 2 questions "Why did you came here with this old car?". He just answered that he wants to show some Russian culture. The second question was "Why are you both wearing Adidas tracksuit?". They both just started laughing and then they both started to squat. Interviewer started to laugh and went to interview other players. Boris wasn't nominated in any award, so he just cheered his teammates who were nominated. His friend also went to look for alcohol and drank little bit too much so they needed to left the party. They did have lots of fun in the party.

The only red carpet Alex Andani was walking on during the night of the Season 45 SHL Awards was the ugly burgundy carpeting that lines the hallways of his apartment building. Yes, like many other SHL players, he opted to skip the star-studded event and watch on television or not at all - probably due to the fact that he wasn't eligible for any awards or recognition this season. While others spent their day preparing for the event in sunny San Diego, Alex Andani remained in Boston. It's a decent place to spend the summer, but not nearly as nice as San Diego. He spent the day grocery shopping, picking up dry-cleaning and going on his weekly booze run with teammate and childhood friend, Kristaps Ball. He also decided to skip the event, citing the same reasons and not wanting to make the cross-continental flight to California. They ended up watching parts of the event - flipping between the awards and Blue Jays-Yankees game. They turned the ceremony off entirely when the surprise musical performance was revealed: Nickelback.

After a historic rookie season where scored a goal and finished sixth (on his team's defense) in scoring, Tig Murphy showed up to the awards show dressed in his finest suit, which also happened to be the same suit he had owned since his high school graduation. Sure it was a couple of years old, but his mom bought it for him and told him he had to look nice just in case he won as a write in candidate for rookie of the year and had to go up on stage, and it was definitely the nicest suit he owned. Also the only suit he owned. He rolled up to the red carpet in his Tesla, and despite the valet telling him that there was nowhere to plug in electric vehicles, Murphy told him to park it anyway (he would have to cab back to the hotel as the car was out of juice). Literally no reporters acknowledged his presence or asked questions, so he was able to walk right in and grab a seat - or he would have been, if a seat had been reserved for him. Apparently "nobody expected him to show up," and the entire seating plan was set in stone, which forced Murphy to leave early. In anger, he stormed out and never so much as looked up the awards results, so to this day he does not know if his 1 goal, 10 assist season was enough to win Rookie of the Year

Patrice Nadeau didn't show up to the award ceremony because there was really no purpose for him to be there as he was ineligible for any awards and none of his teammates were up for getting an award. Instead Nadeau ordered chinese food to his apartment and decided to watch Hockey's Greatest Hits on VHS while also drinking a full bottle of Rum alone. Now some would think this is pretty sad but he had nothing better to do that evening besides indulge himself, and once that VHS had ended he just decided to watch random shows on Netflix in an attempt to avoid anything SHL related as he was not too happy with out his previous season went and the awards was a stark reminder of that failure. If he did go the award ceremony you would he would have arrived on a motorcycle and most likely wearing any suit he found in his closet as he is not one to care much about appearances.

The season 45 award ceremony was the buzz of the league with the whos who of the SHL making appearances. Anyone that knows Craig Finley knows that he doesn't like to live his life in the spotlight. The reason he made his appearance was due to the fact that Craig was nominated to the S45 Jester Award, given to the rookie of the year. Showing up in an old beat up Chevy pick up, he made the entrance only he could.

Walking down the red carpet he quickly turned heads due to the fact that he was wearing a loose fitting black sweatshirt and fitted blue jeans and flip flops. Many people thought it was an  arrogant move made by Finley. When we caught up to the young dman he said that hes never one to wear something due to the fact that hes supposed to wear something a certain way and last time he checked there was no dress code. Hes here to be comfortable, and look at his numbers on the ice and let that do the talking for him.

While inside the ceremony hall waiting for his award his seat was empty. We found him in the back by the bar just chilling talking to fans of his. "Winning an award would have been nice but i was more than happy standing in the back talking to fans and just taking the time out of my day to meet everyone, and show them that players are just everyday players that get paid to do a job just like the everyday fan." Craig said.
