Week 2 - Game 24: Vancouver @ St. Louis VAN: 1 - STL: 6
#16

PP Comparison

Whalers 0/7 PP Whalers
Scarecrows 3/6 PP Scarecrows

The Scarecrows romped to a 6-1 victory on the night, and the effectiveness of their special teams was a big reason for that. Not only did they convert half of their PP opportunities to put three goals on the board, they also successfully killed 14 whole minutes of time on the PK. The failure of the Whalers to trouble the Scarecrows on the PP contributes heavily to their big loss.

Faceoff Comparison

Whalers 40 Wins Whalers
Scarecrows 54 Wins Scarecrows

The Scarecrows were dominant in all facets of the game, and their skill in the faceoff circle really helped them control the puck tonight. Winning over 57% of the draws really helped them both offensively and defensively, and kept the Whalers on the back foot all night long. Robert Phelps will be disappointed with his performance in this area, winning only 11/34 draws for the Whalers.

Game MVP

Alex Andreoff made the most of his 13 minutes out on the ice, turning it on with a devastating 3 point performance. He was a +3 on the night with 2 goals and an assist, with his first goal ending up as the GWG. Great contribution from the 3rd liner, and this type of performance from a rotational player is so often the difference in the SMJHL.

Three Stars

1. Cameron Dubois Scarecrows The young defensemen had a career high with 4 points tonight in 20:07 minutes played. His first assist of the game was a deep pass from behind the crow's net to Joonas Rasmussen who was to make a quick pass to Crossfit Jesus and finishing off with a one timer.

2. Alex Andreoff Scarecrows Andreoff only played for 13:38 minutes but he scored 2 goals and an assist for 3 points. He scored the game winning goal for the Crows had 5 shots on net tonight. Expect him to play more minute next game.

3. Joonas Rasmussen Scarecrows Rasmussen was the power play specialist of the night. He had 3 assists on the powerplay. They were all perfect pass to the shooter where they were able to shoot in a open net.

Unsung Hero

Fletcher Carric Scarecrows He played 5:21 minutes on the penalty kill. He won over 50% of the face off and was very on both side of the game. He had 9 shots on goal but he wasn't able to score a goal. He was still putting pressure on the goalie and the defensemen. That barrage of shots forced the goalie to put more energy on the game and he was eventually tired of taking a lot shots.

Difference Maker

Again, it's seems like the winning team always does better on the power play. The Whalers had 7 power play tonight and they weren't able to score a single goal. As for the Scarecrows, they were able to score 3 goals on 6 power plays attempts. The first goal of the night was scored in 28 second of the game on the power play which gave the Scarecrows a lot of momentum all night.
