S51 PT #3 - SHL Board Game
#61

In the SHL version of Hungry Hungry Hippos, little balls of TPE are released and 4 chosen players get to swipe their sticks at the balls. Instead of gobbling them up, they try to shoot the balls across the board into the opponents net. The more TPE's you put in your opponents net (the net directly across from you) the more TPE you earn. There are 5 rounds in a game. If you are the winner of a round, you get a slightly longer stick depending on how much TPE you were able to get into the other net. At the end of the 5 rounds, whoever has the most total TPE is the winner.

The players will be interchangeable and collectible (also sold separately!). So you can collect all of your favorite players from the league and challenge your friends with them. Wow what fun! It's going to be a real hit as it combines the fast action pace of gathering up all the TPE for yourself, and collecting which is very popular among the children.

I propose an SHL edition of the good old game of Chess. You have the rich players that don't really do a lot except buy tpe, which would be the kings, and you don't want to lose them off your team or it's game over. They take cheaper contracts for you. You have the queens which are the tpe hoarders, these try their hardest at everything they to do get as much tpe as possible. As a result, they're all over the ice scoring. Then you have the people who gather tpe in weird patterns, making them the bishops. One month they'll be on, milking every single tpe possible, and then the next thing you know, you don't see them for a couple months. After that you have the knights, which is the people who barely make an effort to get any tpe and the rookies. The knight moves in the shape of an L so this is fitting for them. And lastly you have the rooks. These people would best describe me, who is short on time lately. They log in every few days and grab only the tpe that is convenient for them, making the rooks' linear moving pattern fitting.

My SHL game is going to be in the style of a game collectible card game. There would be several key booster packs that include big names from different teams, but the real stars would be in booster packs that you’ve got to purchase and hope you get lucky or trade what you do get with your friends.

The collectible card game will feature various things that basically rack up points over a set number of rounds. Rather than killing opponents as you often do in other CCGs in this one you will be able to bait somebody into a fight and knock em out for a bit, or play a card that gets your opponents baited into something stupid that lands them in the penalty box.

Eventually the SHL would want to license core boxes, or maybe starter boxes that featured big names from each team in the league so that their fans could get started with the core group from their favorite team.

The game would be a hit when you could duke it out Calgary vs. Edmonton and reenact some epic series from the past with your favorite players or even a combination of old legends and new rookies. The other benefit would be the league could make a fortune reissuing players each season as they changed in skillset and play style on the ice.

Some fans would likely just collect the cards of their favorite players or perhaps the most rare players, and not even play at all.

SHL CRIBBAGE

SHL Cribbage is played by each team during a sim game pegging points on a board with a maximum number of 121 holes.  Instead of a deck of cards, points are acquired as the SHL sim game plays out.  As each shift plays out, teams will get points or lose points for the following:

Face-Off win +1
Hit: +1
Shot +2
Shot block +2
Save with a rebound -1
Save without a rebound: +1
Penalty -5
Goal +10
Short handed Goal +15
Power Play Goal +5
Shoot-out Goal +5
Penalty Kill (allows no goals) +5
Power Play (no goals) -5
Major Penalty -15
Fight +5 (only for the win)
Game win in regulation +10
Game win in overtime or shootout +5
Shut-out win +20
Shut-out loss -20

If one of the teams reaches the maximum amount of pegging on the board, they are granted an automatic win even if the SHL game is not over.  If the SHL game ends without one of the teams reaching 121... the highest amount will win.  The fun twist is, that you can win the SHL game and still lose the SHL cribbage match.

I am going to describe a board game that is called "Threat Level Midnight". The objective of the game is to make it into the SHL All Star Game as the one civilian entry, and save the arena from being blown up by the nefarious evil villain Goldenface. To start, you must roll the dice to determine your starting attributes: the attributes are Accuracy (Physical and Armed), Power (Physical and Armed), and Speed (Physical and Armed). Your starting Speed influences the number of spaces you can advance on the board, as it acts as a multiplier to whatever number you roll on turns thereafter. There are spaces on the board that include challenging minigames against SHL stars like Mike Izzy, Piotr Czerkawski, and legends like Oisin Fletcher. You must defeat these SHL stars of past and present to earn points to level up your attributes. Once you've earned 50 Accuracy and Power, you can enter the speed skating competition for your spot in the SHL All Star Game. If you win that minigame with enough Speed, you are eligible for the final boss -- Goldenface.

Game of Life SHL Edition would be a fun spin on the family friendly board game, this time letting you live the life of an SHL player through the course of the game! Instead of starting by choosing between work and college, you can start the game by choosing between starting in the SMJHL and working your player up to success, or going right to the SHL. From that point, the game is up to you, spin the wheel and move up the ladder, collecting milestones and suffering setbacks like winning a Ron Mexico/getting your first big contract, or facing an injury/being traded away. New to the game of life will be a game system, where if you land on a tile with another player on it, a game will be simmed between the two teams that the players are a part of and money/life tiles being awarded to the player whose team wins. When all is said and done and all players reach the end of the board, the player with the most successful career wins the game!

My board game isn't entirely SHL baser per-se, but none the less it's a game that can be enjoyed by hockey fans, and especially fans of leagues like the SHL or VHL, more than most. I call it, Terraforming STHS, an off chute of the game Terraforming Mars. Players will have to modify the stats that STHS uses to their advantage, and must increase the global SC, DF, and ST ratings as they go. Cards like Checking may be detrimental to opposing players, but also come at a negative score come the end of the game. Multipliers can be added to your score by increasing your Endurance, and fighting will cause you to lose cards and/or currency. Finally, the end goal is exactly that, a goal, that once your SC, DF, and ST ratings reach the peak, the engine breaks and players tally their scores to see who can win the final shootout!

My idea for a game would basically involve a modified version of the Pokemon Trading Card Game (I debated between magic and yugioh as well but ultimately Pokemon is simpler to design for). Each player from each team would have their own card, with various attacks depending on that player's attributes - a high checking player would have powerful physical attacks that could penalize them in some way (take damage most likely), while a high passing player could allow for switching to a different active player and giving them some kind of benefit (a more powerful follow up attack). Instead of the energy used in the Pokemon game, each team would have its own currency of sorts. One of these cards could be played per turn, attached specifically to a player, in order to enable their attacks and other such abilities. It would actually be more interesting to me than the base Pokemon game due to the larger variety of teams compared to current energy types, though the number of attacks would likely be lesser with less information to draw from. We could also incorporate various tasks from the site into the game - a "Completed PT" card could upgrade a player's attack, causing it to do more damage.

Here's a fun idea for the whole family : Operation - SHL Edition!

Now, the classic boardgame Operation makes the players use tweezers in order to remove a plastic "ailment" that is affecting your patient, without touching the metalic border of the container of said "ailment". You had different fun play-on-words, such as the "Adam's Apple", which was an apple located in the throat area of the patient, or "Butterflies in the Stomach", which was a litteral butterfly in the gut of the patient. But we could replace those using the current 16 franchises of the SHL, and an association either with their name, or with their city!

Buffalo Wild Wings : Wings located on the left of the patient's shoulder
Syndicate's Promise : The right-side pinky finger of the patient
Hamilton's Fractured Rib : A rib located on the right side of the patient's abdomen, situated where Alexander Hamilton was shot in his lost duel
Mouth Frothing With Rage : The mouth of the patient
Pack Alpha : A tail, swinging on the right side of the patient's buttock
Oh... Barracuda : A small fish located where the heart of the patient should be (this is a play on words using the music group Heart, who are famous for their song Barracuda)
Under the Northern Star : A cross situated in the patient's left hand
Platoon : A kidney stone on the patient's left side (this one is a bit far-fetched, but Oliver Stone was the director of the movie called Platoon... I did what I could there!)
Dragon's Eye : The left eye of the patient
Cold Feet : The right foot of the patient
Cat-like Reflexes : The right quadriceps of the patient, as it used in pouncing (genius, I know.)
Chief's Hat : A crown-like hat atop of the patient's head
Doom's Specter : An ominous figure looming on the patient's left side
Misplaced Pride : The patient's reproductive organs
Always Bigger In Texas : A huge gun situated in a holster on the patient's left leg
Jetpack! : A cannister of gas protruding from the patient's right shoulder

Enjoy the hours of fun - and don't ring the buzzer!

My idea of SHL Game would involve a brand new line of Upper Deck Cards on the Upper Deck Card App. The Card Trading market has been more focused on the electronic version, more then the physical version. So the concept would be this, each card value would be resetting to the base value every season in terms of tiers. Like established superstars, veterans, uprising stars and rookies. As the seasons go by the tiers get upgraded and cards get put on shelf if players retire. Unless that player that you currently own goes into the HOF. HOF cards will be the max value that a card can get. They'll also be a battle feature where you can battle your friends or trade with them if they want a card that has gone up in value throughout the season. I think this would be a great idea to separate the SHL with this card game going out into the market.

Kalju has never been much of a board game player, so it was a surprise when makers of Monopoly contacted him for ideas. Kalju used his creative mind right away and came up with some suggestions:

1: Theme game for each team is going to be made, money in the game, for example, will have the logo of the team, the board itself will have color scheme similar to the one team uses on their jerseys.

2. The little figures you use to move around will be hockey-related: little stick, hockey bench, zamboni, puck, goal etc.

3. The most expensive section of the game will be named after the last years cup winner in all monopoly games.

4. If you end up into jail: each player can yell SHL related comments to you. If you cant come up with anything, the game will have some included, such classics as: ´Nobody wants to share a cell with you´, ´What happened - did Texas Renegade try to ride you?´ and ´Better stop passing around or Hamilton will come and take it away from you´

5. When you lose the game - you can write comments about the other players into the ´Thunderdome´ book, hundreds of empty pages, but be careful - they will get to read them at the end.

Earlier this year I played a game called Pandemic, it's a cooperative game where you and the other players try to stop the spread of disease from killing everyone.  Each person has a specific role so everyone has together to try and win the game.  This could potentially be retro-fitted for the SHL, each player gets a role (sniper, play maker, 2-way defender etc..) and they all have to work together to win the game, instead of saving the world.  The real game is tough to win, at the end of each players turn you have to turn some cards over that for the most part have a negative impact on the game by spreading the viruses that you are trying to eradicate.  All the players have to utilize the roles that they have and always be thinking several moves ahead.  You would need to do the same in the SHL version, making sure that each player on their turn is working toward the ultimate goal of winning the game, which could potentially mean that you are doing what's best for the team not necessarily the best for your player.  At the end of each turn, the cards that you turn over would have things like '2 on 1', 'double-minor penalty', if the players have set themselves up properly they can combat these cards in attempts to stop the opponents (viruses) from winning the game.  Basically, Pandemic is a board game that does everything it can to try and make you lose, I find that Simon T is a lot like that, so this should be a nice cross over.

My game would be an SHL version of the classic "Magic the Gathering" card game, with a ton of OP cards.

[Image: vilde1.png][Image: sloth1.png]
[Image: PEP1.png][Image: shitstorm1.png]

In this game, you each have a deck of about 50 cards, you face off against each other playing creatures, spells, etc and beat each other down from 30 to zero. Land cards are used as your mana for casting costs. All SHL players would be represented as creatures, the more tpe the more overpowered you are, abilities could be based on how players have performed against specific teams, etc. Goalies would be walls, the more tpe they have the more overpowered they are. Enchantments could be fun things that have come up in media or have been SHL storylines like performance enhancing parms for Calgary, etc. Then of course sorcery's could be anything that goes on in the league forum, shitstorms seem like an easy choice. There could even be legendary creatures from the Hall of Fame or legendary enchantments that are hard to get rid of based on shl history and league happenings. I'm sure there is no lack of material over the years in the SHL. This was a fun idea to think about.

SHL shaker hockey!

Each player has a team of five players and a goalie. The goalie is attached to a small track so it can’t wander fully out of the net but can move back and forth. The players are set on a heavier base and have no track keeping them in any position. Once you have your players set, you turn on the board and it starts to vibrate. Drop a ball at center ice and watch as your players slowly move around towards different nets and try to score. The game is played in three periods much like a normal hockey game, and they last 20 minutes each because it will take forever for any of them to score. It’s a game for two that can waste your whole afternoon! What are you waiting for? Rush out and get yours today, and don’t hesitate to collect all the different teams to simulate the whole season!

I would have to go with Cards Against Humanity: SHL Edition. The possibilities would be endless with a Cards Against Humanity theme from this site. You could have black cards such as: What is the latest beef between Buffalo and Calgary?, Hamilton has broke the league again, this time thye found that *blank* is another useless stat. Wow look at that trade, Minnesota gave up *blank* first rounders and got *blank* back. Monkey D. Luffy was recently caught in a scandal about *blank*, oh the humanity. You could have fun white cards such as: Esa the GOAT, The Balls God, Challenge Cup, Lockout, FHM and so on. The possibilities are endless and the joy to be had would be very much by all players. I can this game being a big hit and an all time sellers leader in the board/card game category. Look out for Cards Against Humanity: SHL Edition coming to you in the holiday season of 2020.
