For real though Mook, what if Knutsen gets MVP? He has a real shot. So far in pre season he is leading the league in shots and is tied for 2nd in goals. How disheartening would it be to everyone else working hard all year to lose out to a retired player.

Then its the same thing as an inactive 350TPE send down winning MVP. He was active enough to get past 350 TPE, its not like 155 TPE player is Winning MVP. How disheartening is it when an inactive player gets more icetime than you in the juniors because they are over 200 TPE and you are still around 180.

All those teams winning Four Star Cups with inactives on their team over teams that are filled with actives. This retirement means fuck all when it comes to the SHL, Molmsten won a cup with STL then retired and remade a player, just meant an SHL team wasnt gettig a goalie, his retirement really had 0 effect on the Crows.

Knutsen retiring is treated the same as an inactive in the SMJHL, would you be mad if an inactive 350 TPE send down won MVP over you (hypothetical)? He hasnt retired, just inactive.

There is no difference between retired and inactive in the SMJHL

It just seems to me that the definition of retirement is way off here. He made the choice to retire. That should be different than someone just not showing up anymore, that's all.

And to answer your question. It would be pretty lame if an inactive won MVP.

Edit - just an idea but what if inactives or retired players were ineligible for any awards? Or if we were to take it further also be ineligible to play first line?

2nd edit - bad choice of word.

The awards idea I agree with, gives more incentive for active members to try harder. Taking them off the first line would be pointless though wouldn't it? Can't a gm just make the 2nd line full of the 1st line players and give them more minutes? Or just having more scoring depth?

If having an inactive on the first line who has great chemistry wins me the cup, id prefer that over moving him

Yeah exactly, they had to work hard to get to that place in the first place
