How the Vipers became #Vipers4Lyfe

None of the players of this season's Prospect Showcase tournament knew each other before they were randomly thrown into four groups with flashy labels such as the Blazers, Wranglers, Stingrays - and Vipers. However, it quickly became clear that one group was more than just a number of random players - the Vipers became a team with an identity.

Obviously all participants of this tournament were hoping to make a name for themselves, because they knew SMJHL GMs were watching and paying close attention to every single one of them. The Vipers knew that in order to be a successful team, they needed locker room chemistry quickly. No championship is won without a functioning locker room. During round 1 they were still struggling and it wasn't yet clear who the best players on this team would be. An early bromance developed between two D-men Wibbly McButternutz and Tony Ford and was picked up by the media.
This group was more than just individuals playing against each other in a tournament hoping to get noticed - they started playing together. Suddenly, things changed and the Vipers went on a streak winning 6 games in a row including a massive nine(!) goal game in which Epsen Knutsen Jr. and Tony Ford had five points each and another game where goalie Harry Carpet earned his first shutout of the tournament. The Vipers were on fire! At the end of Round Robin the team ended up on the second place of the Tenacious Conference, but they clearly weren't done yet. This team wanted more and they swept the Conference final opponents in two games. Now they're waiting for the finals.

Don't be surprised to see a few first round picks from the Vipers.

Standouts so far:

Espen Knutsen Jr. ( C ): 8 goals and 25 assists in 20 games (playoffs not included) - do we need to say more? Oh and he's also good at winning face-offs. Don't forget his linemates Kobe Krisp (26 points in 20 games) and Max Huebner (21 points in 20 games).

Corey Kennedy (D) and late addition Filip Zadina ( C ) are both over a point-per-game players and they're continuing to produce in the playoffs as well.

Harry Carpet (G) was a little unpredictable in the beginning, but is turning out to be the best goalie of this tournament. Bonus: 3 assists so far.

If you're looking for a new fan-favorite, look no further - Wibbly McButternutz (D) is your guy.
