Gonna be doing this for fun daily since Brady is finally in the race the Stevens award! I'll try to do this every day. Players will be listed based on a formula similar to the one used to calculate the score we use for SHL fantasy with some modifications:
G -> 3 Points
A -> 2 Points
Hits -> 0.5 Points
Shot Blocks -> 1.5 Points
Penalty Minutes -> -1 Points
Average Minutes Per Game -> Total of all points above are divided by this amount to account for differences in playing time
Then I multiply the final value by 100 just to make it look more neat.
Interesting stuff:
- Tigole Bitties plays between 2 and 4 more minutes per game than all but one other defensemen on this list. I would figured he'd be further down due to the time played, but his hits and shot blocks seem to make up for it.
- Craig Finley plays only 16.31 minutes per game on average. He doesn't hit or block shots on the same level as the rest of the players on the list, but he produces points at an elite level.
- The youngest player on this list is by far Craig Finley (S43). After him we see Enjio Kalju and Otis B. Driftwood (S40), then Brady McIntyre, Gary Grease and Liam O'Callaghan (S39).
- Players 1, 2 and 3 all have at least 100 hits. Following that are 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all with less than 100 hits, then player 9 has over 100 hits again. Looks like we have a good mix of finesse and grit.

His group leading PIMs along with lower than average shot blocks for the group definitely didn't help, but having hits be worth half a point is probably his biggest issue. And I actually made hits worth .5 instead of .4 like the fantasy formula has :eyes:
I agree though, Driftwood should probably be a top 5 player on this list ahead of Tanner (who is propped up by his high goals and incredibly low PIMs.

I think the main issue is with -1 point per pim. This seems really aggressive. No worries though. I have not and will never be nominated for an award in the SHL . I accept it as out of my control.

I think you're right, I should probably put it at .25. I just chose -1 arbitrarily. I'm gonna re-do this with that instead and see what we get.
I won't change the post above to keep the conversation from before relevant, but I'll be using my new formula tomorrow with PIMs being -0.5 instead of -1. Interestingly this actually drops Driftwood to 10th on the list. In theory this should reward players who are aggressive to the point of hurting their team in terms of PIMs, but I think those players are weeded out simply by me grabbing only the defenders on the leaders section of the index.

Hmmmm two things jump out to me... The penalties for PIMs and for playing time.
I think for PIMs, - 1 is a bit much. Perhaps looking at the league average PP% and figuring out exactly how many goals a single PIM is expected to concede and basing points off that would be better. And obviously not including fighting majors or weighing them less than a normal PIM since they do not shorthand a team.
Second, for playing time, I think you need to account for PP and PK time here to truly account for increased opportunity. If you are weighing goals and assists so highly, I think note should be taken that they are easier to score on the PP and almost impossible to score on the PK. This can additionally help weight PP points versus even strength points.
Just some thoughts I had to help this not so overly favour non physical offensive dmen.
EDIT: Was basing this off the OP fyi... Didn't see the ensuing discussion until after my reply
