As Abel Skinner was born and raised in Wales, he loves both rugby and soccer. Along the way, before he was completely hooked on hockey, he tried his hand at both sports. As you might imagine, Abel’s toughness played well in rugby. He really enjoyed diving into the scrums and often the one to emerge from the pile with the ball or if not, he was the one tearing an opponent away from the ball to allow one of his teammates to grab it. And Abel always felt a similarity between tacking in rugby and checking in hockey.

But in soccer, Abel struggled more. Sure, his stamina helped there too, but though Abel can keep up with others on the ice, he is NOT fleet of foot. He tried playing defense in soccer as well, but still those pesky wingers kept darting past him. He still enjoys a pickup game of soccer – or rugby – but he is absolutely sure he made the right choice in making hockey his lifelong, professional commitment.

I am writing about my ISFL player Ben Slothlisberger coming to try to play in the SHL. I really do not think the hockey thing would go too well for old Slothlisberger. He is maximum height and weight in the ISFL, and while he isn't a lineman it still amounts to quite a big lad. I think just the sheer size of the guy would make it tough for him to maneuver out on the ice. Also, seeing as how Ben is from the Moon and just showed up one day to play college football, I do not think that he has ever ice skated a day in his life. It would be insanely hard for him to pick up skating I think. As a quarterback, he probably would be able to at least understand what he was supposed to be doing, but I think his physical limitations would largely turn Ben Slothlisberger into a shit show on the ice. He'll stick to football I think.

Raivo Helminen is a solid hockey player, but he can also play football/soccer since Raivo played multiple years as a kid. Raivo is a big man so he would be an excellent target striker. Center in hockey is a fairly similar role as target striker in football, both are in the middle of the action and often used as passing boards when setting plays up but they can also be the main focus points on when looking for players to end attacks. Target striker is usually really good in the air or they should be since quite often target strikers are not the fastest players on the pitch, that is the reason why I think the role is made for Raivo, he can jump and he has that eye for making plays happen and more so an eye for ending the plays.

As long as Raivo would get to play in a role that fits his attributes as an athlete, I think playing a second sport and in this case football/soccer could be a fairly successful thing. Raivo would not be able to play on highest level of any professional league, but couple divisions below and maybe coming in from the bench as a potential difference-maker would be a good fit.

Tibuk Soonika most commonly known for his exceptional goaltending abilities has agreed to do a small stint with Major League Baseball. This cross promotional oppertunity has Tibuk being a fielder and a hitting position.

While it may seem like a great opportunity for Tibuk to spread his wings and see what other sports he could possibly branch his skills into the big hang up is Tibuk has never played baseball before.

After watching a few warm ups Tibuk was feeling confident baseball players were typically flabby and out of shape. "How are they supposed to run quickly" Tibuk wondered. His first at Bat and Tibuk completely misses the ball and accidentally hits the catcher with the bat. Very apologetic Tibuk offers to take over the catcher position it looks like goalie for baseball after all. First pitch Tibuk blocks the ball and smothers it. Excellent. Second pitch, what a glove save by Tibuk. Third pitch, he stacks the pads?

At this point the team manager has had enough and gives Tibuk the axe and asks security to escort him from the premises.

Maybe next time Tibuk will give ping pong a whirl.

I have a player in the ISFL by the name of Rusty Rucker. He's a linebacker playing for the Norfolk Seawolves and the Honolulu Hahalua. Now whilst he's excelled over there, a champion in his respective mind the chances of him becoming anything even resembling competent in the SHL is near zero. For a start he has all the balance and co-ordination of a toddler. And this is on feet. Throw this man on skates and he's gonna fall all day, he has no chance. He's got the strength for sure, he's a tough old bloke, but he can't get near anyone to check them. Add a stick and a puck travelling god knows what speed and he has no chance. Rusty Rucker, I love you bud, but there's is precisely zero chance you even make the Juniors. The first fully rejected player. His only conceivable stat would be Intelligence. Relatively high for his position. I think he could learn to skate, and maybe learn the rules of hockey. But by the time he did that it would the heat death of the Universe. So good luck Rusty, cause you ain't gonna manage it. I wish would you though bud. I believe.

You would think that Horvat would cross over to something physical, or high impact, but you would be wrong. There is only one other sport that has ever drawn his interest like hockey, and that is Curling. Being from a large family, Curling was one of the only sports that allowed his entire family, multi-generations to all compete against one another. It made the most sense since the family, and the town, had already built an ice rink so there was nothing else needed. Horvat always played as a sweeper and he did it well. There isn’t many skills that translate well between the two sports, but that didn’t stop the Piotr from loving it. At one point Piotr was even invited to the youth national try outs for Russia, eventually having to turn it down to attend an international hockey tournament. There wasn’t much cross over in terms of skill, but the focus that Piotr had developed Curling did translate into hockey as he found a way to slow the game down and see it at a slower pace which has helped him quite a bit.

As a young lad Teddy Park excelled at every sport he touched.  His physical gifts and impressive stamina meant that the hardest part of any sport was simply learning the rules.  However, after Teddy fell in love with hockey and being on the ice he met his nemesis.  A sport that is dominated by accountants, librarians, and professional bowlers: curling.  For everything Park has in physical dominance and size he sometimes has trouble with the finer points and finesse of sports.  It's one thing to hit and overpower opponents, but it's an entirely different beast to put just the right amount of touch on a stone to stop on that bullseye or place blockers to defend your position.  Something that Park still hasn't grasped to this day.  That hasn't stopped him from continuing to try and in fact he is a member of a curling team that knows to stay outside of arm's reach and avoid being downrange as he has actually thrown a stone in frustration on more than one occasion (read: every time)

For tanjiro his first sport in the modern day was Kendo. While training to slay demons and to slay goalies he puts on his Kendo gear and works on strengthening exercises. Because of his breathing skills he does not compete in Kendo. It is fair for him to use these skills in hockey because when you are constantly being checked against the wall the flame breathing technique or the water breathing technique does not make him better. When he wants to spice up his Kendo training he does break out his hockey stick to use it. In Kendo the sword is fairly light and balanced. When he uses the stick as his sword however, it forces him to create the balance as necessary. This allows him to have better stick skills because as cliché as it is, training with the stick in Kendo has allowed Kamado to become one with his stick. This has already shown up today by tallying 5 points over his first three skills. Maybe training in Kendo will be something that his teammates may catch on to and become on with their sticks just like him

Harry had never been all that interested in other sports besides hockey, at least not seriously. Growing up he did join his friends playing soccer in the summer, but hockey was always his 'thing'. Usually he ended up playing goalie there as well when they were in need of one, but he already knew that he would never like soccer as much. When he was asked to join a local team in his hometown recently to play in some league games, he thought to give it a try again, if only for a short period of time during the off-season which was - unfortunately - rather long for a Toronto North Stars player. The team asked for his preferred position and luckily they accepted his wish: in goal. The net is a lot larger and obviously there is no ice or skating involved, but a few basic skills could be transferred. If you aren't scared of having hundreds of pucks shot at you regularly, how difficult could it possibly be to stop a simple ball? Not wearing nearly as much protective gear as on ice... Let's just say Harry was happy when he was done with it and could return to just being a hockey goalie instead.

Growing up in Atlanta, Potts played a ton of sports, most of which he was pretty good at. Although hockey was by far the sport where he shined the brightest, there is another sport where SLATT's skills were also top end, that was football. Something many people don't know is that out of high school Potts was rated a 4* Cornerback, having offers from 22 division 1 programs such as Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and many other powerhouses. Had Potts taken the college route, there is no doubt he would have pursued a career in football. I'm not sure his hockey skill would have furthered him in football but nonetheless, it is impressive how talented of an athlete he is and the options he had when it came to pursuing a sport at the highest level. Although we can never be sure if Potts made the right decision, he is happy where he is at in Texas and slinging around the vulcanized rubber with the boys.

Edward Williams is a pretty big guy, but not overly tall. At 6'2 and 205 pounds, Williams could do well in a lot of sports. Growing up in Stockport, England as a fan of Manchester City, he always wondered how he'd do as a soccer player. He felt as though he could make a good center back. While in hockey he is a center (forward), a center back is the heart of defense in soccer. They rely on good positioning and physicality, two of Williams' strongest traits in hockey. In this alternate version, Williams becomes a formidable soccer player. He reads the game exceptionally well, and can make important defensive stops for his team. Additionally, he becomes adept at heading the ball, another vital aspect of defending in soccer. Not only does he use his heading ability to clear the ball, he becomes an incredible goal scorer and a threat from set pieces (free kicks and corner kicks). At just 24, Williams is already making a name for himself as the power house center back in England.

Written option: 150+ words, describe how the new sport crossover goes for your player. Alternatively, if you are in another sim league, you can write about how your player in another league would fare in the SHL for a season.

Being Swedish, the two sports that Magnus played during his youth were of course, hockey and football. In both sports he played a defender, and positioning in hockey and soccer can translate across somewhat, though there are certainly differences. During the summer, when he was home in Örnsköldsvik, Magnus was invited to practice with the football team, Umeå FC, which was just over an hour north of his hometown. Umeå FC was recently promoted to the Superettan, which is the 2nd tier league of the Swedish football association's tiers, similar to the AHL, and was looking to find some more supporters in the local towns surrounding their stadium im Umeå. Having recently made his debut in the SHL, and achieving some measure of notoriety as a Ryan Jesster finalist, they felt that Magnus could help promote the football club as a "local" celebrity.

Magnus attended a couple of practices, where he held his own against the other players of Umeå, and didn't embarrass himself too badly. As a publicity booster, Umeå FC organized an exhibition match against GIF Sundsvall to raise funds for the Solstickan, a Swedish children's charity, and invited other members of the local sports teams such as IF Björklöven (ice hockey), Modo Hockey (Magnus' old hockey team) and IF Sunsdvall Hockey to participate as well. He was slotted in as a wide midfielder on the right wing, and did pretty well all-told, not being nutmegged or completely burned on a lot of plays.
