S57 mPT #1 - Offseason Moves

Sarah Burke got traded again, this time as part of a blockbuster move that also involved moving Daniel Kuster, James Kimanje, two first round picks and a second to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Toronto's Adam Barron. I hope Barron was worth it - because from my standpoint it looks like Toronto got hosed and Winnipeg came out on top.

thank you amid and swoosh for sigs!

adding Sarah burke to the Winnipeg jets is a boss move because locker rooms are all about relations and comraderie, and since she's buds with engi she's buds with me by association. also she's gonna be a beast when she gets called up.

One of the better moves this offseason was Baltimore's call ups and additions of youth. The team is building for the future and surrounded some older talent with young guns ready to take the league by storm.

Let's talk about the New Orleans Specters' draft. Specifically, the pick they took at number ten in the first round. Goalies are a funny thing in the SHL. There's a ton of talent out there, much of which is withering on the vine due to lack of opportunities and playing time. New Orleans is currently mostly set at the position, though age comes for us all and for the Specters that will be no exception. Still, taking a goalie in the top ten is a very bold move. One, for the reasons I mentioned previously regarding the volume of talent already in the SHL, but two, for the volume of talent in this draft. The eventual pick, Jon St. Ark, was probably the top target, but there were a handful of very talented players in the S57 draft at the netminder position as well. New Orleans had four picks in the first round, so they had the draft capital, but it still is showing the trust and value and future plan for the Specters in taking St. Ark so early in a crowded draft and at a crowded position. They will have great expectations, and high hopes for this young goalie, and the clock has started on when he makes his first appearance in New Orleans black and purple.

I think that the Newfoundland Berserkers had a fantastic off-season move which was hiring on former Berserker Nhamlet to be a GM. I think that Nhamlet is built for this and is going to be a wonderful GM for the franchise. Can't wait to see the heights he goes to!

The Anchorage Armada had an absolutely ELITE draft this off-season. Just based on names alone they should win 5 straight Four Star Cups. Jörg Fuchs, David S. Pumpkins, Paul Binder, Gregory Goode, and Cole Carter (who sounds like the frontman of a boy band) are all fantastic players with great names. But the absolute cream of the crop ooh yea is right defenceman, Bean Beanman who is already making waves as one of 3 assistant captains in his rookie year. Look for these 6 rookies to have phenomenal careers.

Toronto's big move was obviously the pickup of Defenseman Adam Barron who is going to be huge for us going forward. Shout to my boy Honkers for getting the call up so Toronto has an actual backup now!

The greatest move I've seen this season was the Detroit Falcons moving all-in on this draft to end up with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pick.

They went into the draft lottery with the best odds of getting 1st pick, but their lottery went like the rest of their season and they missed out on the 1st pick. Since they had the worst regular season record, this meant the Falcons got to pick 2nd OA.

S56 was not a great season for the Falcons, and it wasn't looking like the current team would be able to compete for an S57 cup on their own. Therefore, the decision was made to re-tool and shift the window a little. Star players Sammy Blaze and Kolja Kekkonen were shipped out to get 4OA in this draft, and 3OA was obtained in exchange for future draft picks. The scouting team did a great job of scouting for talent, both obvious and hidden, and came up with a draft strategy that ultimately lead to the Falcons picking up three of the most promising recreates in @DrunkenTeddy, @Leppish and @notorioustig with the first three picks. They finished their draft by picking two more players, @CaptainAmericanBurger1775 and @Chongler, in the 5th and 6th round. An FA signing, and a trade for @frazzle14 later, the young Falcons team is looking forward to growing a lot this season and definitely have their sights set on a future cup.

While San Francisco had a great offseason as they continue to rebuild, the best move was to make Sven Svenson captain. As a true leader he will help push the team to new heights.

The Panthers had an underwhelming off season, the draft went great, that's for sure. But we had hoped also to land a couple of free agents to help us shoot for the top of the league. Unfortunately this did not happen, but last year showed that even with limited resources this team is able to fuck up any parlay made by the casino betters.

Former players:
Ivo Willems (S9 SMJHL) (S10-28 SHL)
Xander Green  (S33-35 SMJHL) (S36-47 SHL)
Vorian Atreides (S49-51 SMJHL) (S52-61 SHL)

The offseason roster move of the season is definitely the extension of Guy O'Shea.  Fresh off of an all star team nod, he is set to build on that success this year.

S53 Four Star Cup Champion- Detroit Falcons
S56 Challenge Cup Champion - Hamilton Steelhawks

This offseason the San Francisco Pride were able to continue with the rebuild plan by having a fantastic draft. Knowing they don’t have their first round pick the next year meant this year needed to be great and it was!

I love the call up of Rotticus Scott for the Hamilton Steelhawks. He performed very well in the juniors nd I think that he will make an immediate depth impact on the Steelhawks.

I personally think the Monarchs made one of the best moves by drafting Kyle Murray. It is my belief that he will be the biggest steal of the draft. I have inside sources saying that he spent a lot of his rooking season severely ill, so he drastically underperformed (and I am putting that lightly), so he fell quite far down the draft board. I think that Kyle Murray is going to bounce back and have am astonishing sophomore season and really impress both the Monarchs mgt. and the league as a whole!

This offseason surprised me because it was so much more boring than last seasons. But hey, thats how the cookie crumbles.
The Atlanta Inferno keep on getting better and were able to lock up the number 1 defenseman in Free Agency and brought in Rex Kirkby. I was lucky enough to play alongside Rex and know how great of a player and teammate he is. With the likes of Brady McIntyre, Guy Zheng, Demaricus Smyth and now Rex Kirkby, this expansion team is starting to look like they are not going to be fooled with and taken advantage of. I tip my hat to Hotdog for what he has done with that team in such a short time of its existence.
