S58 SMJHL PT #4 - OT6
#1

You love your teammates, but there are so many other awesome players and personalities around the SMJHL. What if you got the opportunity to choose to play with people from other teams? Who would you take and why?

Task

Written option: Choose 5 other SMJHL players who are NOT on your team to complete a starting lineup that includes yourself. Use whatever criteria you want and tell us about it and/or how the six of you would get along if you did play together (150+ words).

Graphic option: Make a graphic depicting you + your 5 choices - could be a magazine cover, an All-Star roster announcement, a dream you once had, whatever. Must include at least one render.

Reward
4 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one, not both.)

Only S58 SMJHL Rookies (S59 SHL Draftees) are eligible for this PT.

You cannot claim TPE for this PT until a post is made in the global claim thread.

If I had to choose 5 other players to start with me, I would obviously choose the best players at each position. I haven't meet any other players aside from QCC players so I'm going to ignore their possible behavioural issues. Starting with the obvious, myself, Kappa Kappa will start at Left Defense. For my goalie, I would have to choose Chimkin Tendy from ANC. He currently leads in save percentage among goalies with over 20 games played and has a top 5 Game rating with an average of 75. For my other defense partner, I would choose Jean-Locke Zidane as he currently dominates the league in terms of defense. He is top 4 in hits and is a physical monster. At Centre, I'm going with Ric Charlesworth. Aside from QCC's starting centre, Ric has the highest points among other centres and plays decent defense. At LW, I have Pavel Kharlamov starting. He is currently the goal leader at the time of writing. And lastly, at RW, I have Bas O'Bigbers starting as he currently leads everyone in Offensive Game Rating, and is an assist beast. And there you have it, an all-time great SMJHL team aside from LD.

RW - Brian Davenport, Quebec City Citadelles
LW - Pavel Kharlamov, St. Louis Scarecrows
C - Igor Petrov, Quebec City Citadelles
D - Grandmaster Funk, Nevada Battleborn
D - Sven Svechnikov, Vancouver Whalers (me)
G - Yanno Rosejac, Colorado Raptors

Theres not a huge amount of thought needed here. Igor Petrov and Brian Davenport both light up the lamp almost at will with the Citadelles, and Pavel Kharlamov is at the top of the league for goals. Grandmaster Funk shows almost exclusively out of respect for the name, but he does throw a lot of rubber on net and that's a welcome trait from any defenseman and would really be a solid mirror to my own offensive focus. Finally, Yanno Rosejac rounds out the squad solely because I have experienced him standing on his head and stealing multiple games for the Raptors. Without him, Colorado is in a much worse spot than they are currently for sure.

Left wing - Janis Lux
Left defence - Aleksandrs Balcers
Center - Scooby Doo
Right defence - Artūrs Tumovs (me)
Right wing - Shaq O’Neal
Goalie - King Leaf

After forty minutes of scrolling through all SMJHL league team rosters and looking for five other players for this lineup, I finally did it. So I present to you six latvian rookie players. Just to get a chance to play in the defence pair with Newfaundland Berserkers first overall pick Aleksandrs Balcers I am ready to switch to right side. This six man has it all - King sealing our goal, Scooby Doo solving any mystery about our opponent, good defence ready to excel in offence using any opponent mistake and keeping momentum going with Shaqthing a fool with some Luxury goals. So this is why I picked my fellow latvians for this good looking six. You can spend hours looking, but you won't find something even close to this one.

LW Steven Thomas
RW Strawberry Sailfish
C Mario Abeebehboosedibadib
LD Ethan Bouchard
RD Jay Sink
G Iorek Byrnison

As easily the best player in the SMJHL, it's only fair to our potential opponents that Jay Sink lines up alongside the worst performing players in the SMJHL. Maine's Steven Thomas has really struggled in his limited ice time this season, registering zero points and the lowest game rating in the league at the left wing position. On the other wing, Vancouver's Strawberry Sailfish ineffectiveness at scoring is unparalleled. The rookie has played 34 games, and recorded a decent amount of ice time at over 10 minutes per game. 32 shots, 0 goals, -18 plus/minus. His chemistry with Mario Abeebehboosedibadib may help the team though, who makes the team with 1 goal on 5.88% shooting through 34 games. The center has a -16 plus/minus and has found it difficult to make a positive impact during his 10 minutes of ice time per game. Our left defenceman is Ethan Bouchard, who has racked up an astonishing 45 penalty minutes (top in the SMJHL) and has given the puck away an impressive 24 times. The St. Louis man has the third lowest game rating among LDs. Our goalie is Iorek Byrnison, who has the league's worst save percentage and lowest game rating. The Scarecrows rookie has won just one of the 13 games he's played in S58.

Jay Sink's motivational ability would lead this ragtag team of strugglers to realise their potential and play as well as we know and hope they can. A Four Star Cup is the only possible or acceptable outcome when you combine the chemistry on the forward line between Sailfish and Abeebehboosedibadib and the collective determination of all six players to prove the doubters wrong. Mikael Koskinen - Kian Hamilton Jr. - Artemius Nystrom (me)

Eero Makela - Puddles O'Duck

Chimkin Tendy

While Nystrom is a very fresh rookie and hasn't played up to his potential yet, he's an offensive player by trade, most at home making a mess in front of the opposing tendie and banging chances in. A left winger by nature, he's played on the right in Colorado thus far and would happily move there again for the chance to play with the most underrated passer in the league in Mikael Koskinen. Quebec's top line hogs the headlines, but if you glaze over their second line you're missing a real gem. Koskinen connects the kind of passes that don't even feel possible at the junior level and make you wonder why you bothered trying to check him.

Centering this line, we have one of the best faceoff specialists in the league in Kian Hamilton. A 69.6 faceoff % is absolute madness, and while it's somehow not the very top of the league, it gets a very offense-heavy line the puck more times than not, while Kian's no slouch at contributing offense and driving the play himself. Neither Koskinen nor Hamilton are exceptionally physical players, but if there's one thing Nystrom has covered, it's bruiser duty.

Playing defense, on the left we have a brutal shutdown defenseman in Eero Makela. While he won't be pitching in much on offense, this forward group should be able to give him plenty of + while he keeps us out of the -. Also, absolutely no one wants to be on the ice against Nystrom and Makela at the same time. Artemius does very well in the hitting department, but Eero is hard to dispute as the league's most punishing hitter.

On the right, to pretend to bring some balance to all this goonery, comes one of my favorite defensemen in this league in Puddles O'Duck. A two-way rock, O'Duck is equally capable of starting a breakout and stopping one in its tracks and is certainly the most well-rounded skater in this group. He's also a damn fine hitter himself; putting him in a situation where he's the third-best hitter on the ice both lets him leverage his other talents and fly under the puck carrier's radar right up until the moment said forward is suddenly on his backside and no longer the puck carrier.

In net, we have a goalie who may not actually be human but goes by the name of Chimkin Tendy. His inclusion shouldn't require much more explanation than the fact that he has a 0.931 against 742 shots in 26 games this season and a few minutes of quiet time to process that information.

Myself and many other SMJHL players know each other from the ISFL as well, so I am building a team of folks that I know from good old dot football. For my team’s forwards I’m picking up Vancouver’s Robot Sunfish and St. Louis’ Friedensreich Hundertwasser. With Sunfish, not only do I have a reliable player, but he can also serve as the team’s Goon character, as there’s nothing he loves more than a good old brawl on the ice. Hundertwasser supplies the epic beard, and he also does the team portraits. If you can say his name five times fast correctly, he’ll buy you a beer! For my defensemen, I’m selecting Vancouver’s Zayne Rotzbua and Carolina’s Ole Oleson.  Don’t get Rotzbua the player confused with r0tzbua the user, as they aren’t the same person. Allegedly. I know all four of these guys from the war room of the DSFL Dallas Birddogs. Finally, for goalie, I’ve selected by ISFL Yellowknife Wraiths teammate, Jon St. Arkz. Supposedly he’s pretty good or something!

When looking at other players I would like to play with, I will be going solely off of stats as I have not talked to any other players on other teams. With me on Right Wing I will be dragging the team down a bit but I’m hoping the other five players on the ice would be able to make up for it. At Left Wing I would pick Pavel Kharlamov from St. Louis. Not only is he a fellow Russian, but he leads the SMJHL in goals and is 2nd in points. At Center I would pick Quebec’s Zdenko Beranek. He currently leads the league in points and is 2nd in assists, so I could block the front of the net and screen while Zdenko sets up Pavel. On defense, I would go with the pair of Quebec’s Boris Petrov and Maine’s Sean Gatez. Petrov is the league leader in hits and would bring a great physical presence, and Gatez is the league leaders in blocked shots, an incredibly valuable skill to have. In goal I would pick Kelowna’s Damien Vertigo. He is 3rd in SV% and 1st in GAA among starting goalies and is a big reason Kelowna is leading the West in points.

We all think that we’re playing on the best line in the league right now, but truly, there’s always a better line than yours, even though it’s hard to admit if you’re on a third line like myself. We’ll start with myself, the Left Winger out of Anaheim, 5 goals and 4 assists, pretty good hotshot for the young winger. Zdenko Beranek Will serve as the center for the team, he currently leads the minors in points with 35, and with a +/- of 21, makes him one of the most efficient players in the minors to date. Next up we’ll go with Damien Vertigo, in my opinion one of the most dominant goalies in the league, with a 1.67 GAA, and five shutouts, good luck getting one past this guy. Next up is my RW, Bas O'Bigbers, who has been quite solid, with 33 points. Next we’ll do our defenders. Jasper Maximov On right, and Jari Heikkinen on the left, a combined 40 points between these two. And then the team was born.

LW: Pavel Kharlamov - STL
C: Samuel Savage - NL
RW: Mew Two - QCC
LD: Evangelos Giannopoulos - DET
RD: Robert Feltersnatch - KEL
G: Benjamin Blue II - KEL

The logic behind my team is pretty simple, It's me and the highest goal-scorers in their position around the league (not including my fellow Zerks). Now don't get me wrong, getting the top goal-scorers in every position is by no means the best way to build a team, in fact, it's actually a pretty sketchy idea at best, you know the old cliche, too many mouth to feeds, etc. However, as a player who has goal-scoring pretty much near the bottom of my ability and priorities, I think sticking me with a bunch of offensive superstars would really be interesting to see. While Samuel is lacking in scoring ability he is an very strong passer of the puck and despite having the lowest TOI of anyone on the Zerks he's already racked up 4 primary assists in about 11 games. When you combine that with his 7 hits in the same time frame I think you could really see that he's an absolute dream of a teammate for those players who are more focused of putting the puck in the net than distributing or physicality (not to say there isn't guys who also excel in these areas on this squad). If I was building a true dream team around Savage it would probably include the following roles to complement his Agitator play style: Sniper, Playmaker, Quaterback, Shutdown Defenseman. If I was a GM looking to win a championship, that's my go-to first line. But hey, people watch hockey for goals, and how successful of a team my All-Scorers squad would be is something we'll never know, but one thing is for sure, they'd be fun to watch.
