A returning user recently asked for the "Spark notes" version of what had happened since he'd be gone. This *sparked* an idea for me to give a season review of teams throughout the SHL in brief, one at a time. In my head, there's a big book and each chapter is a season, and each page in that chapter a season review of one team. This sort of thing certainly exists in some form or another -- as users have reviewed seasons for years and years -- but it's not compiled. And I am certainly not going to compile it, nor will I be doing this thing for every team. The simple truth is I don't want to make it a reality as much as I wish it was one. I'd rather do other things.
SO If you would like to contribute to an FHN Sparknotes review of a team's season, just go ahead and do it. There's no rules for FHN, unlike SOME OTHER NETWORKS. Just add the image and tag the title (okay, there are two rules) Without further adieu Tampa Bay Barracuda Record: 26-38-2 (54 pts) 4th in Atlantic, 9th in The East, 14th overall. Winnipeg was no doubt thrilled to to turn a future 1st (who knows how late) for high earning defenseman with strong activity. Tampa Bay was also thrilled to get such a good return on Adrik, as they had no room for him the following season. Adrik ended up being the odd man out on a roster filled with new prospects, all thanks to the wheeling and dealing of MCP. It was either waive Adrik and lose him for nothing, or make a trade. Adrik was drafted 16th overall with a NOLA 1st and has basically been converted into another 1st. https://simulationhockey.com/showthread....pid2976733 Tampa Bay exercises mutual option of making TURG a free agent Another casualty of the Tampa Bay logjam was breakout star TURG TURG, who walked into free agency after his contract expired. Tampa was unable to secure a trade, or was at least willing to let TURG go where he wanted. He ended up in L.A. https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=113372 Tampa extends Phillip Weaver, Tobias Lindeman (IFA), Colin Lambert, Igor Victory, Elwulf Jericson, Jakob Hamr, Justin Keahi, Aleksander Kozlov, Zoltan Topalo, Tom Fiddler Not a whole lot of interesting stuff here, but this is going to be one of the more important transactions for the Barracuda moving forward. They have a massive pile of prospects that are hitting the SHL and moving forward the trouble will be with maintaining the budget. Most of these signings are short, either 1 or 2 seasons, which gives Tampa a lot of flexibility. And, many of them are league minimum. A few players like Hamr and Keahi got a substantial raise on a short term, which will help them with training in the meantime. Weaver, a top tier earner, got a longer term at 3 seasons $4m, which helps Tampa keep his price down in future seasons. Lastly, and I can speak on this personally, Tom Fiddler took a 1 year league minimum deal for $5m, one season before his Home Town Discount is available. https://simulationhockey.com/showthread.php?tid=113880 Tampa Bay signs Luc Blouin, Finn Von Murphenstein, and Hunter Sharpe from the draft. Extends Valtterri Kauppinen, KnockedOut ByOvechkin, and Jöörgüštrâäd DuBølk. Again, not that interesting. MCP gets a big raise for one season to help with training, Luc Blouin goes absolute minimum pay, maximum length. Added S55 Colin Lambert (D) * S55 Igor Victory (D) * S55 Jöörgüštrâäd DuBølk (D) * S56 Vladmir Petrov (RW) * S56 Phillip Weaver (G)* * = Rookie Removed S50 Flash Gordon (D) IFA S50 Jack Wilson (D) IFA S46 Kalevi Karhunen (D) IFA S50 Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu (RW) IFA S50 Ian Venables (G) IFA Tampa Bay added some much needed depth to their roster, replacing low-tier IFAs with prospects entering their 800s and 900s, becoming a fully active roster for the first time in nearly 10 seasons. But notable is the substantial increase in points from the S50 trio of Fitted, Fiddler, and Ronlain. In the previous season, Fiddler lead the team with 46 points, ahead of Ronlain who had 37. Now, 4 players have reached that mark with Fiddler again leading with 69 points, a 23 point difference. No player finished below 14 points, and for the first time in many seasons we saw a non-negative +/- stat, with Petrov holding a solid +0. Zoltan was a breakout star as well, slated on Tom Fiddlers line with Petrov, eclipsing every player on the team in his 3rd season (except for Fiddler), beating his previous best of 26 points with 53 points. That's double the points, ladies and gentlemen. Lastly, in a bid for Rookie of the Year, Philip Weaver stood between the pipes in just his 3rd professional season, turning away 91.4% of the shots he faced and taking away 23 wins of 56 games. Weaver had a heavy load for a rookie, with Lindeman playing backup in just 16 games. Only 5 other goalies played more minutes than Weaver, with only about 90 minutes difference between him and league leader Strom Chamberlain. And only Olli Saarinen of NOLA had more shots against and saves. And, perhaps uncoincidentally, only Olli had more goals against.
