Sorry for the wait Season 69/70 players, we are finally here. I have heard your request and put it off to give a bit of a refresh and an opportunity to do a few other articles. Now I am excited to present your redraft. As always we will cover a few topics, Top 3 per position, TPE ladder, Average TPE in this class, and a redraft all together.
TOP TPE PER POSITON: GOALIE: Rhett Carpet - 701 - NL 102 Games – 58 wins – 34 Losses – 5 OTL – GAA 3.01 – 10 Shutouts - .894 Save % - CAREER Rhett has become the gold standard in this class through an impressive 3 year career. A healthy amount of starts in Rhett’s first year, splitting the net in the second and owning the net in Rhetts third year. Already owning one four star cup and poised to make a run at another, there isn’t much left for Rhett to accomplish before making the jump to the main stage. Tibuk Soonika - 685 - KEL 103 Games – 39 Wins – 49 Losses – 12 OTL – 3.28 GAA – 6 Shutouts - .891 Save % - CAREER Tibuk has put in the work on a very similar career path as Rhett above. Unfortunately, the same success has not been found quite yet for Tibuk, that has more to do with the team around him and less about his dedication to his craft. Still one more season to go and a cup run could be on the horizon. Tibuk is an SHL ready goalie playing in the SMJHL for now. Luka Nogoalov – 633 – NVB 161 Games – 92 Wins – 49 Losses – 12 OTL – 3.10 GAA – 9 Shutouts - .893 Save % - CAREER Luka has been thrown into the fire from the moment he was drafted starting 53 games and never playing fewer. A true number one goalie and ready for the next step in his career, he is the backbone to one of the best teams in the league. DEFENSE: Willow Söderberg-Snooks - 690 - REG 198 Games – 8 goals – 54 assists – 739 Blocked Shots – 210 hits – 36 GA vs 126 TA – CAREER A true number one Willow has become “the guy” on the back end for a team that has high aspirations each season. As tied for second best earning in TPE Willow has applied to their craft to become an inspiration to his teammates and the league itself. A defensive force for the Regina Elk Ace Lightning - 690 - NVB 198 Games – 29 Goals – 95 Assists – 317 Blocked Shots – 417 Hits – 48 GA vs 160 TA – CAREER Not to be out done, Ace Lightning is every bit as good as Willow, but more of a two way threat. A true defensive star and a shinning point in the league. Nevada is not the same team without their defensive star being utilized in all situations to keep opponents on their toes. Sydney Shaw - 659 - YUM 198 Games – 20 Goals – 68 Assists – 307 Blocked Shots – 302 Hits – 32 GA vs 170 TA – CAREER A phenomenal two way defender and the anchor for the Yukon Malamute. An impressive 659 TPE earned so far, Sydney is a true star within this league. An impressive overall stat line for an impressive career so far in Sydney’s professional career. RIGHT WING: Kyle Latreille - 632 - GFG 198 Games – 65 Goals – 78 Assists – 97 Blocked Shots – 539 Hits Kyle is a force and his true potential has not been unlocked yet. Consistent work has put him near the top of this class in TPE earned. A break out is due anytime now and when he does look out! He just needs to stop hitting so many people and focus on shooting the puck a little more. Lasse Zeigler - 630 - STL 198 Games – 48 Goals – 56 Assists – 151 Blocked Shots – 456 Hits Another rough and tough two way forward. Lasse has not had the breakout you would expect from a maxed out performer. That will come in time. A phenomenal talent will be a key focal point for St. Louis as they look to bounce back from a rebuild next season. Nathan Cormier - 620 - QCC 198 Games – 59 Goals – 99 Assists – 55 Blocked Shots – 517 Hits Man these right wingers are tough. Throwing out an impressive number of hits and an impressive earning through 3 seasons. Nathan is the cornerstone for Quebec on offense and will be a driving force to their success for next season. CENTER: Tony Soprano - 689 - ANC 198 Games – 93 Goals – 122 Assists – 42 Blocked Shots – 235 Hits Hey Forget about it, Tony Soprano had a big season this season and has done well throughout his entire career. An offensive force for Anchorage and one of the top earners in this class (number 4). Tony has done everything a team could ask for to help them succeed. Alvin Wong - 679 – YUM 198 Games – 60 Goals – 105 Assists – 130 Blocked Shots – 476 Hits Being utilized more in a two way role Alvin has excelled on the Yukon Malamutes. He has worked hard and really helped the team come out of the rebuild. He isn’t quite a point per game player but that could change next season as more opportunities and stronger team builds around him. William Tree - 664 - MNT 190 Games – 68 Goals – 95 Assists – 97 Blocked Shots – 354 Hits Being on a team like Main Timber (who William Tree was obviously born to play for) is a blessing and a curse. Playing time is evenly distributed among players giving top guys a little less time to shine opposed to other teams. He has done well with his minutes and is a steal for Maine as a third round pick. LEFT WING: Daniel Grumathan - 660 - ANC 198 Games – 61 Goals – 86 Assists – 75 Blocked Shots – 370 Hits Daniel has done something every GM wants to see, consistent growth. Every year almost every statistical category takes a step forward. Next year should see his hard work pay off with another solid jump in stats and TPE. Anchorage is lucky to own two top players on this list. Iliket Urtles - 655 - MNT 198 Games – 77 Goals – 115 Assists – 99 Blocked Shots – 488 Hits An elite two way forward Iliket has managed to beat a point per game pace. Maine Timber struck gold once again with this versatile two way forward. He will be used in almost all situations as they look to continue their success into the next season. Mu Wisconsin - 540 - KEL 198 Games – 56 Goals – 89 Assists – 117 Blocked Shots – 383 Hits Mu has become Kelowna’s best forward in all aspects of the game. Power Play, Mu can do it. PK, Mu is a warrior! Mu’s versatility is the key to their growth and Kelowna’s success moving forward. Expect big things in year four as they look to bounce back from a rough season. We change players based on highest TPE not by on ice accomplishments. We will only be looking at redrafting the 1st two rounds of this year’s draft. Undrafted Free Agents will get a shoutout at the spot they would have taken in the redraft but will not be taking the redraft spot. S69 SMJHL Entry Draft Round 1 1:  Yukon Malamutes - Sydney Shaw – 659 TPE – DEFENSEA fantastic pick by the Malmutes, Shaw has become a defensive two way force and a top 10 player selected. I know they are very happy with this choice as Sydney has done everything asked to become a franchise piece. REDRAFT: Willow Söderberg-Snooks - 690 – UP 23 SPOTS This could be either Willow or Ace Lightning, I am choosing Willow because of the earlier initial pick. A huge jump for a player who is a defensive powerhouse and really should have been a much earlier choice. 2:  Kelowna Knights - Isak Sogard – 393 TPE – DEFENSEAs far as SMJHL needs, Isak was solid. A capable defender in the junior leagues but with a second overall pick the hope is to grab someone who will contribute and max out. Obviously this was not the case must be considered a miss. REDRAFT: Ace Lightning - 690 – UP 24 SPOTS Ace did not have to wait long to get his proper place. Once again these two Lightning and Soderberg are interchangeable and only separated by 2 spots in the original draft. If the Kelowna Knights could have done it over again I am sure they would have loved to have lucked into getting Lightning. 3:  Quebec City Citadelles - Elena Maximova – 651 TPE – DEFENSEDefense must have been a hot commodity during the season 70 draft, 3 picks and 3 selected. Elena has done exceedingly well to keep pace with the top of the league and Quebec must feel like they acquired a great piece with a fantastic pick. REDRAFT: Sydney Shaw - 659 – DOWN 2 SPOTS All in all, Sydney Shaw was a great pick at number one only falling 2 spots is a great accomplishment in the scouting staff in the Yukon. For Quebec this is a trade up in talent but only marginally. I am sure they wouldn’t complain with adding a player like Sydney in this exchange. 4:  Vancouver Whalers - LeBron James – Inactive – CenterClearly Lebron should have stuck to basketball. Another early miss in a draft class of legends and a rare miss by the Vancouver franchise. I had to actually go back and ensure that I didn’t miss him. With Lebron out Vancouver would take a warm body and a bag of pucks as a replacement, we can do better. REDRAFT: Tony Soprano - 689 – UP 5 SPOTS What could have, should and only if had been. Vancouver had a big miss in turn they get an all-star caliber forward. Tony would have made this team go from cup contender in season 72 to potentially the winner. They really were one player away. 5:  Newfoundland Berserkers - Rhett Carpet – 701 TPE – GOALIEMR. TPE, who the hell picks a goalie in the first round? Well it was a great decision Newfoundland found their future franchise netminder. Rhett has been on another planet in earning and goaltending ever since taking up the reigns in season 2. REDRAFT: Rhett Carpet – 701 – No Movement. Let’s not kid ourselves this is the rare instance of a goalie could have gone first overall and no one would have baulked at the idea. Rhett is on another world when it comes to earning TPE and becoming a franchise piece. 6:  Colorado Raptors - Robin Nyckel – 442 TPE – DEFENSEI will be honest, I think Robin will explode with a ton of TPE in 2 seasons, seems like the kind of player that banks all of their training, and spending and unloads it in one shot when they are able to continue training and the cap is off. At this time Robin is a good pick, maxed out and playing well in the SMJHL. REDRAFT: Elena Maximova - 651 - Down 3 SPOTS Elena’s fall is over quickly as she drops 3 spots and Colorado gets a fantastic addition to their defense. The addition of Elena may mean they keep the player and do not move a top defense prospect to rival St. Louis. 7: Yukon Malamutes - Alvin Wong – 670 TPE – CENTERClearly the best of the Chipmunks and one of the best centers in the SMJHL as well as this draft. Alvin is a workhorse and the center piece of the Malamutes future. They made a great selection hear grabbing a top 10 player inside the top 10. REDRAFT: Alvin Wong - 679 – No Movement Talk about hitting the Nail on the head, Yukon really had great value with a fantastic player as they grabbed their franchise piece. 8:  Regina Elk - Jae Hyuk Choi – 337 TPE – LEFT WINGRegina made a big move and went to the well grabbing the first left wing off the board. A smart move in most circumstances as no one had touched the left wing prospect pool at this point. Unfortunately it did not pan out as Jae never reached any capped potential and is nothing more than a good support piece now. REDRAFT: Daniel Grumathan - 660 – UP 8 SPOTS I love the reach for a left winger, but they should have focused on another. If they had only made the move for Daniel they could be in a much better position now than they currently are. Daniel is a force on the left side both offensively and defensively. 9:  Anchorage Armada - Tony Soprano – 689 TPE - CENTERRutt Ro Shaggy, Tony Soparno is gone in the Redraft, and the Armada lose a phenomenal talent. Luckily for the Armada this is a strong year at Center and there is plenty of talent to be had. REDRAFT: William Tree - 664 – UP 24 SPOTS My goodness what a steal by the Maine Timber. William climbs up into the top 10 in the redraft (if we only knew then what we know now). Making the loss of Tony Soparno bare able for the Anchorage Aramada as they lose a future franchise center, but gain one in turn. 10:  Nevada Battleborn - Luka Nogoalov – 633 TPE - GOALIEThere is no doubt in my mind that Nevada is happy with this legendary goaltender. Luka has done everything he has been asked to do and been rewarded with one Four Star Cup already. One of the best earners in this draft class means a first round pick was well spent. REDRAFT: Tibuk Soonika - 685 – UP 7 SPOTS How ever, could in this redraft we see Tibuk moving his way into the first round. This all world goalie is a future star, while the difference for Nevada would have been negligible. It could have been what was needed to win that second cup. 11: Colorado Raptors - James Ward-Prowse – 652 TPE – CENTERAnother center comes off the board at number 11! It is crazy to think 4 of them have been claimed at this point. James Ward is another top earner showing how good the Centers in this draft class were, it is not often you see 4 or more achieving the max earners. Another franchise piece for the Raptors. REDRAFT: James Ward-Prowse – 652 – NO MOVEMENT PERFECT PLACING by the Colorado Raptors team with this pick. They managed to acquire a phenomenal addition at the right spot and right time for this pick. Kudos! 12: Quebec City Citadelles - Kieran Kovalev – 232 TPE – LEFT WINGAnother left winger picked up in the first round, unfortunately it is another miss. This time it is Quebec City taking a chance on the left side of center. They had big hopes but it was a bit of a let down. REDRAFT: Iliket Urtles - 655 – UP 7 SPOTS Was this the draft that turned the Maine Timber around? Probably. If Quebec could do it all over again I am sure they would grab a franchise altering first round pick in Iliket Urtles who has become a force in Maine. A 220+ (Capped) TPE difference and a consistent member in the locker room would have helped with Quebec’s success. 13: Newfoundland Berserkers - Mit Wobet – 610 – DEFENSEGetting someone with the consistence of 600+ TPE in a late 1st round pick is hoped upon but not always expected. Newfoundland Berserkers have hit the nail on the head with this pick. If they could do it over would they keep the same player…probably, but in the redraft will we keep the same player? REDRAFT: Gnabe Dabson - 640 – UP 12 SPOTS Nope we go with Gnabe, a player with just a little more TPE then Mit. Just like Luka from earlier, there really is not a lot of difference in the amount of TPE per player but Gnabe has worked a little harder earning the nod. Switching one franchise defender for another is still a win for Newfoundland. 14: Regina Elk - Olivers Ozols – 618 TPE – RIGHT WINGClearly this was a smart pick, a 600+ TPE player at the end of the first round. Also hunting in a position prospect pool that has not been tapped yet in the draft Right Wing. Clearly Regina made a great decision here. REDRAFT: Kyle Latreille - 632 – UP 21 SPOTS MY GOD WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE TAKE KYLE EARLIER THEN THE 3rd ROUND! What a find by the Great Falls Grizzlies. In the end the difference is marginal for the Elk but for Kyle he gets the recognition he deserves for working hard earning a first round placing. Round 2 15: Yukon Malamutes - Don Aven – 242 TPE – CenterSwing and a miss by Yukon. REDRAFT: Josh Latreille - 548 – Up 14 Spots What a difference that would have made! 300+ TPE more and a capped earner! How Josh fell so far is crazy look back on it now. 16: Anchorage Armada - Daniel Grumathan – 660 TPE – LEFT WINGAlready gone, sorry Anchorage. REDRAFT: Mu Wisconsin - 540 – UP 15 SPOTS One of the more consistent earners in SMJHL, how Mu fell to the third round is beyond me. Luckily for Aramda the redraft sets them up with a capped TPE earner in replacement of Daniel. 17: Kelowna Knights - Tibuk Soonika – 685 TPE – GOALIESteal of a pick right here. Unfortunately already gone. REDRAFT: Luka Nogoalov – 635 – DOWN 7 SPOTS A redraft day trade of spots, Luka falls a little (Still a first round talent) but earns their spot as third goalie selected. 18: Vancouver Whalers - Anthony Simmons II – 407 TPE – Right WingUmm…not sure how to process this one, already on a big roster in Toronto? Kind of a fail…kind of not… REDRAFT: Lasse Zeigler - 630 – UP 16 SPOTS Another amazing talent in the third round of this draft! WOW, Congrats Lasse you are a first round talent, falling to the second round (even in the redraft) based on position. Should have, could have, would have been selected much earlier if teams only knew. 19:  Maine Timber - Iliket Urtles – 655 TPE – LEFT WINGAlready gone, sorry Maine, but we will get you someone really good. REDRAFT: Jae Hyuk Choi - 337 – DOWN 11 SPOTS …or maybe not… Left wing took a really bad nose dive here. SHOUT OUT: Jiggle E. Puff - 514 & Alekss Ivanova - 499 both would have been drafted here if they were not UFA, AMAZING earning you two. 20: Colorado Raptors - Shorsey Wobet – 336 TPE – CENTERA swing and a miss for Colorado, it must hurt a bit because 2 of the next 3 picks were centers that have been consistent earners. REDRAFT: Timo Lambert - 543 – UP 3 SPOTS I know nothing is ever certain in the SMJHL draft, but damn to be so close to a capped earner just to barely miss. Timo would have been great here. 21:  Great Falls Grizzlies - Wednesday Addams – 524 TPE – CENTERA fantastic find at center in the second round. Great Falls scouting staff did a great job on this pick. REDRAFT: Wednesday Addams – 524 – NO MOVEMENT NAILED IT! Nothing more to say here, franchise piece was selected in a great spot. 22: Quebec City Citadelles - Nathan Cormier – 620 TPE – RIGHT WINGA great find at pick 22 by Quebec! REDRAFT: Nathan Cormier – 620 – NO MOVEMENT This is a pick that really should have been higher in the draft, but based on positioning this was a perfect pick, I am sure Quebec feels the same way. 23: Colorado Raptors - Timo Lambert – 543 TPE - CENTERSorry Raptors, he is gone, we all have to deal with it. REDRAFT: Austin Doumakis - 343 – UP 19 SPOTS Perhaps teams have gone to the well too many times at this point. Centers are losing some of their luster right about now. SHOUT OUT to Grisha Uskjal - 497 would have been picked here if part of the SMJHL draft. Phenomenal work so far! 24: Regina Elk - Willow Söderberg-Snooks – 690 TPE – DEFENSEOH NO! This one hurts to see picked earlier in the Redraft. REDRAFT : Mit Wobet - 610 – DOWN 11 SPOTS Mit drops a ton of spots in draft order but only one by position. Not a terrible turn of events for Regina. 25: Anchorage Armada - Gnabe Dabson – 640 TPE – DEFENSEHmmm…Defense is starting to become a premium in the redraft. REDRAFT: Sven Petterson - 491 – UP 15 SPOTS ALL in All not bad, still a capped player to work with, while Sven is not Gnabe in earned TPE, more then capable of filling in at the Junior level. 26: Nevada Battleborn - Ace Lightning – 690 TPE – DEFENSESorry Nevada, we had Ace picked way up at number 2. REDRAFT: Robin Nyckel - 442 – DOWN 20 SPOTS Much like Sven, Robin is a suitable replacement at the junior level but not quite the same level of earner. SHOUT OUT to Darnell Mohamed Johnson II earning a ton of TPE as a UFA 455 total! 27:  Carolina Kraken - Edmund Rothaus – 211 TPE – DEFENSENot quite a bust but not a great pick either. REDRAFT: Isak Sogard - 393 – DOWN 24 SPOTS Clearly there are only so many talented defenders in this draft. Isak is a solid top 4 at the junior level and would have improved Carolina significantly. 28: Kelowna Knights - Wilhelm von Hindenburg II – 268 TPE – CENTERA missed opportunity by the Knights with this pick. REDRAFT: Shorsey Wobet - 336 – DOWN 8 SPOTS Clearly this isn’t a huge upgrade and talent is running out in the redraft, but this is still an upgrade that could have been a much better 2nd/3rd line center for the Knights.
