#1
(This post was last modified: 10-23-2023, 10:22 PM by jaypc8237. Edited 1 time in total.)

This seasons Minnesota Monarchs are ones to be looked high upon, as if gazing on them high on the throne. In the past few seasons the Monarchs have been a low team, barely cracking the top 15 teams, but this season is something different. Currently 51 games into the season, sitting at a 26-23-2, for 54 points, and for the first time in a while above that .500 average. Season 73 is almost in the books, and I am exited to see where Minnesota finishes, to see if they make the playoffs, and how they fare in them if they do make it. But that is not the topic of this article. Here we are going to take a dive into the players that make up this strong Minnesota team, with the Top 3 Forwards, Top 3 Defenseman, Top 3 Rookies, and their 2 Goalies. Have a fun read!

FORWARDS

1. META KNIGHT @spooked

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 43
Assists: 36
Points: 79
+/-: 2
PIM: 32
Hits: 77
Shots: 272

To start things off here, we have Meta Knight. Knight is having a solid season so far, and how it is going for the Monarchs overall now it seems he won't be slowing down anytime soon. Leading the whole team in goals by a wide margin of 9, as well as points by an even larger margin of 17, with 79. In 51 games played this season, he surpassed his points total by 2 in 15 less games, and only has to score 5 more points in the next 15 to break his personal record in points, which sits at 84 during Season 71, with 33 goals and 51 assists. Knight takes to the ice and is a dominant player, being well versed in a way that he can put the puck in the net with little effort, as well as make the right play to set up a goal, it makes him a fairly well rounded player, and a star for the Monarchs. League wide, he is 5th in goals league wide, an achievement at that, but even better he is second in the league in shots, only training Konstantin Selich by 21 shots.

2. ALEXI PIASTRI @vbottas17

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 28
Assists: 37
Points: 65
+/-: -5
PIM: 37
Hits: 107
Shots: 229

Alexi, oh Alexi. the next star on our team. Piastri is one of a kind. To start out his SHL career, he cannonballed into the league without even dipping his toes in, he just went for it. And it turned out great for him. As a rookie, he lead all the Monarchs in Goals with 36, by a margin of 9, Assists with 52, by a margin of 9, and total points with 88, by a margin of 18. Since that amazing rookie season of 88 points, Piastri hasn't been able to surpass 70, with 69 and 65 in the previous 2 seasons. But this season looks completely different. He leads the team in assists currently, by one over the famed Meta Knight, and sitting with 65 points with 15 games left. 15 games to score more than 5 points to break that 70 seems extremely likely, and who knows, maybe he can break that 80 level again. Time will tell, and best of luck Piastri, play hard!

3. Hai Nam Hoang @eddiesnothere

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 34
Assists: 28
Points: 62
+/-: 8
PIM: 24
Hits: 62
Shots: 213

Hoang is a wonder to be held this season. 3rd on the Monarchs in points, just slightly behind Piastri, is having a record year for himself. Last season he set records in assists for himself with 29, and was only one goal off of his past record of 21, with 20, which he set in his rookie season, for a total of 49 points. This season is a different story. He is sitting at 28 assists, only one off of his previous record of 29, and 34 goals, a whopping 13 more than he scored in any other season. With those totals, it tallys up to 62 points in 51 games, 13 more points than his previous 49, and he still has 15 games left. Who knows how many more Hoang can rack up in those few games left. Maybe he knocks up 70, potentially even 80!

ROOKIES

1. LASSE ZEIGLER @jaypc8237

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 11
Assists: 31
Points: 42
+/-: -7
PIM: 24
Hits: 83
Shots: 138

Lasse Zeigler was drafted in the second round, 35th overall in the Season 70 SHL Entry Draft, the same draft as both corresponding rookies, Elena Maximova and Alekss Ivanova. Lasse, coming out in his rookie season is having a strong performance. Always been known to be that playmaking winger, he is making his presence felt with his strong passes, racking up 31 assists in 51 games in his rookie season. Hopefully Lasse can rack up some more assists in the next 15 games, maybe he can bump those points up to 50 for his rookie season?

2. ELENA MAXIMOVA @enigmatic

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 10
Assists: 27
Points: 37
+/-: -13
PIM: 14
Hits: 55
Shots: 140

Elena Maximova was drafted in the first round, 3rd overall in the Season 70 SHL Entry Draft, the same draft as both corresponding rookies, Lasse Zeigler and Alekss Ivanova. Maximova's rookies season is not something to be upset about. The rookie defenseman came out strong, playing a very hard offensive game, and yet is always back to stop the opponent from scoring a goal. Maximova leads all defenseman on the Monarchs in Goals, with 10, with Brendan Laroux being the only rival to that total, with 8. On top of that, he leads the Monarch defenders in points, with a measly lead of 1 point, with yet again Laroux coming in one point behind at 36. Overall, a really solid rookie season for Maximova, and all Monarch fans can't wait to see what the future holds for this kid.

3. Alekss Ivanova @Copenhagen

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 18
Assists: 17
Points: 35
+/-: 1
PIM: 24
Hits: 33
Shots: 124

Alekss Ivanova was drafted in the second round, 31st overall in the Season 70 SHL Entry Draft, the same draft as both corresponding rookies, Lasse Zeigler and Elena Maximova. Ivanova is having a good rookie season for himself, being at an even 18 goals and 17 assists, for a solid 35 points. As of now he is over a point every other game, still with 15 more games to play, and with hopes that he can hit 20/20 for goals and assists, it would be very well rounded for his rookie season, and it can only go up from there, getting settled into the league.

DEFENSEMAN

1. BRENDAN LAROUX @Shmurph

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 8
Assists: 28
Points: 36
+/-: 8
PIM: 24
Hits: 54
Shots: 155

Brendan Laroux is having a great season for himself, just like many others on this great Monarchs team. Laroux currently is sitting one point off the lead in points by Monarch defenders, and leads them in assists by a measly one, as it is a very tight race between Laroux and young rookie Elena Maximova. Laroux is in a great spot already to bread his previous record in points of 40, so he has 15 games to get 6 points, very doable. but the real challenge is to pull past Maximova in points, a little in-team rivalry, which help everyone do better!

2. JULIAN FLORSCH @Mutedfaith

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 6
Assists: 22
Points: 28
+/-: -12
PIM: 30
Hits: 48
Shots: 88

Florsch has always been a rock solid guy for the Monarchs on the blueline, as he is the third oldest player on the Monarchs tied with Dominik Froste for being Drafted in Season 66. Florsch was never a offensive guy at heart, but this season he is on his way to breaking or at least tying some of his point records from past seasons, as he is sitting at 28 through 51. his highest point total sits at 36, so that gives Florsch 15 games to get 8 points. Very do able. With that, he only needs 5 more assists to tie his assist record of 27, where he sits at 22 currently. All root for Florsch to have a record season!

3. NEVEK KOVE @Evok

STATLINE
Games: 51
Goals: 2
Assists: 24
Points: 26
+/-: 15
PIM: 32
Hits: 33
Shots: 50

Kove is on track to have a record year just like nearly all of the other Monarchs around. Sitting with 2 goals and 24 assists sets her at a solid 26 points, only one off of his record of 27 points which she set up last season in Season 72. Already She has scored more assists than ever before, 22 being the last marker which was set in her rookie season. On top of that, Kove is second on the team in +/-, only 2 off of Bastien Primeau, which demonstrates Koves amazing defensive game to add onto the illustrious offensive game. With 15 games left, there is no doubt in my mind that Kove puts up another 5 points up easy, to completely surpass the previous point records that were set, to set new ones that can be beaten in a season to come!

GOALTENDERS

1. ENES GUNDOGAN @AW13

STATLINE
Games: 34
Wins: 16
Losses: 16
OTL: 0
GAA: 3.97
SV%: 0.899

Gundogan is the oldest player on the Monarchs currently, which isn't saying much as he is only a Season 64 Draftee. Gundogan Has been the solid starter for the Monarchs during their lowest of lows, and now for him to be starting most games this season, seeing out the team while they are improving greatly is a great sight. Besides that, Gundogans stats this season aren't the greatest, but are still good, as he is in the middle of the pack with SV%, wins, and GAA. Nevertheless, he is getting the Monarchs needed wins, playing a solid game, and bringing that much needed veteran presence into the room, and who better to have that leadership than the goalie who plays the whole game for the team?

2. JEFF NEWMAN @Lumosityfan

STATLINE
Games: 22
Wins: 10
Losses: 7
OTL: 2
GAA: 4.44

This is Newmans third season as a Monarch, and already he has surpassed his highest number of wins, from 9 in his rookie season, and has only 7 losses this season, where his next lowest total was at 15. Along with those great improvements, His GAA is lower than ever before, and his SV% is only .001 off of his previous highest SV% at .890. We will see where Newman sits at the end of this season, as these could go down if Minnesota hits a rough patch, or they could go up if Minnesota keeps playing the way they are. The fact is Newman is playing great in the back end, and will continue to for the seasons to come.
