Max Manning
@Jayba1t

Max Manning is one of the ‘youngest’ players on this list, an S61 First Round draftee who was selected 20th OV by the Seattle Argonauts. He was part of an exceptional draft by that team, as also in the 1st round they selected Landon Fischermann and Willie Miller, all of whom formed a core of what would become a modern-day dynasty. But it was Manning who turned out to become the absolute steal of the draft, whose accomplishments have sealed himself as a modern legend of the SHL, and one of the top 75 of all time.

Manning’s first season with the Argonauts franchise was S64 - the fledgling franchise was just beginning to hit its stride, and Manning slotted in on the 3rd line. He was able to chip in with 16 goals and another 18 assists, decent enough totals for a rookie. In S65 Manning had a sophomore slump year, managing just 8 goals and 20 assists. He made a big jump the next season, potting 22 goals on the season, and saw the Argonauts make the Challenge Cup finals for the first time, giving him his first taste of playoff success. He started really showing his goal-scoring prowess in these playoffs, leading all Seattle forwards with 9 goals in their run. In S67 Seattle won their first Challenge Cup, and once again Manning was a big part of it, especially in the playoffs where he was over a point per game.

It is S68 however, where the legend of Max Manning truly begins. In this season, he did what many people thought was impossible, finishing the season with an astounding 66 goals!! For the first time, a player completed a season at a goal per game pace. Manning also added 47 assists to finish the season at 113 points, the best in the league. His shooting percent was 26.4%, the best in the league. He had 26 powerplay goals, the best in the league. Then, in the playoffs, he added another 18 goals, leading the Argonauts to back to back championships, the last team to accomplish that feat. Manning dominated the awards in S68, winning the Macdonald, Karpotsev, Khan, Richan, and Razov trophies, nominated for the Mexico and named to the 1st all-star team - almost a clean sweep! His 66 goals still stands as the league record. Even with the rise in scoring over the last few seasons, nobody else has managed to accomplish that feat.

But Manning was not done there - he won the Macdonald trophy again in S69 with 55 goals, earning a 2nd Team All-Star nod. In S70 he dominated the league again with an outstanding 63 goals, earning the Macdonald trophy,  a first team all-star nod and his second Ron Mexico nomination. He scored an impressive 41 goals in S71, but Seattle’s run at the top was starting to fizzle out. In S72 he was traded to the Winnipeg Aurora, he scored another 33 goals and was a huge contributor to the Aurora playoff run which saw them capture the Challenge Cup, Manning’s 3rd of his career. He spent another season in Winnipeg before leaving to join the ascending Baltimore Platoon team in S74 where he helped them get past the first round in ages. He currently still plays there, as he looks to break the 800 career point plateau this season.

When you add up the totals, Manning has 798 points in just 726 games, and in the playoffs he has 170 points in just 151 games, showing that he is a big time player when it matters most. For his achievements, Manning has earned himself the record for most goals scored in a single season, and a spot in this top 75 list!
