S51 PT #1 - The Delay

Tibuk Soonika spent this time off with some R and R and finished some renovations he had going on around the house. He also spent some time with family going to the zoo and having mid day picnics that he usually has to miss. As luck would have it though this was the day that they were opening the new Panda exhibit. What a treat! Pandas are great although super lazy and just eat and hang out all day. What a great life! Tibuk has taken some of what he learned at the Zoo and is going to be bringing it to the Chicago locker room. Mainly he is going to be installing a tire swing in the locker room for enjoyment with hot pockets and ginger ale. All in all I think Chicago has come out ahead with the addition of a tire swing and expanded fridge. Thanks lock out!

Ivan was taken aback when he heard about the lockout as it was something he was not used to from the Motherland. In Russia a professional player may not simply not play hockey when convenient, hockey is not voluntary but expected. In Ivan's many years at the rink, he had never seen a situation where teams did not play due to a dispute of the rules. Rules were rules and those must be followed. If there was found to be a situation where the league felt that a player or team didn't directly break a rule but went against the league's wishes a rule was simply made and enforced immediately. No one would ever push back, but if one was stupid enough to do so, they would be dealt with swiftly and would likely never do so again.

Although surprised, Ivan did take the opportunity to watch some of his soaps. He was recently introduced to Days of Our Lives and isn't the type of person to start a new series in the middle, so he's begun watching from the beginning way back in November 1965. Through a series of binge days he was able to knock out 37 episodes so only has 13,668 left to go.

Nolan McMahon has been busy in Los Angeles working with the goalie coaches to help his game reach the next level. McMahon has been working hard over the years ever since the Panthers drafted him later than what he envisioned in the draft. McMahon is a tireless worker and his passion for the game is massive, so his drive is very high. Nolan has been practicing with former NHL players to learn to cut his angles better and give up less room for shooters. The overall advantage McMahon has is that he has many people rooting for him. C.J. James is a former SHL Hall of Fame goalie who has been coaching McMahon in the off-seasons and has been keeping close eyes on him in his games in Carolina. James has also visited the facilities and helped McMahon along the way with the Kraken. The lockout just means more time for McMahon to learn the aspects of shooters and where they like to end up.

Robert Phelps ended up spending more time training and in the weight room than on the ice as a result of the lockout, it will be hard to say if that translates into anything on the ice or not. The more important benefit of this lockout to Robert was that he was able to spend a bit more time with his close friend Angelo Odjick before his move to Texas. Phelps and Odjick have spent their entire careers together after being drafted together in both the SMJHL and the SHL, it will be sad to see the first game of this season played with the two players not being on the same team. The additions of Louie Garrett and Iam Essellemm caused a bit of a cap crunch for the Steelhawks and Odjick was traded to alleviate the cap issues. Only time will tell if Phelps can carry on his previous production without his closest friend along side, but for the time being this lockout has allowed for an extended goodbye.

Geezus Kryyst doesn’t mind the lockout. Still a bit salty after losing the in semi-finals, being replaced as starting Goalie for Germany, and then losing the McBride, Kryyst is happy to have a bit of extra downtime. Kryyst has spent most of his time playing videogames and watching TV. As always he plays World of Warcraft, but he has also been playing EA NHL 20 and Star Wars: Fallen Order on his Xbox one X. He also has been playing a lot of Pokerstars VR on his Oculus Rift. As far as TV, Kryyst was surprised to find out he would enjoy The Masked Singer. He wasn’t expecting that. He also signed up for Disney + where he has been watching old movies as well as more recent classics. His favorites are anything starring Hayley Mills. Kryyst also recently watched a documentary on his favorite movie trilogy, Back to the Future.

During the lockout michael fitted has spent alot of time playing fhm6 and playing baseball! Thats right hes now a 2 sport athlete playing ball for the kansas city hepcats its been a pretty neat experiance he tells me and he thinks it will finely tune his game on the ice as his hand eye has improved quite a bit. Fitted has never been one to just hang around until things are done he hopped right onto the feild after he saw a spring training tryout so hopefully he can add some pbe titles to his player card in the near future. Hes also added a personal trainer to his workout regiment and is seeing tremendous results from his work with world class trainer Seymour butts theyve incorporated alot of glute and legs exercises to really get fitteds hips firing out in smooth strong rythem. Hopefully when the season begins he is ready to go and help his team to a 3rd straight cup.

Normal offseasons are spent with a healthy mix of training and socializing, but with a major league shift impending, Julio will be battening down the hatches. With the new attribute rating system coming out, there will be a lot more to learn and prepare for. Obviously new training drills like screening and stick checking, but potentially mental and hidden attributes as well! It would be a shame to train all offseason, and then have an old picture surface of Tokolosh snorting some "team player" up his nose. If the mental and hidden attributes end up playing a role in the new league landscape, old toko might need to spend some time settling down, and he got a jump start with that during the lockout.

mental health is very important to tokolosh, and while having a good time and being a good locker room guy is a top need, respecting the league's new rules is also important.

While Toko enjoys the end of off season trip to his Cabin with the gang to fish, drink, and play with fire works, he called it off this year to make more time to learn to "Loyalty" and "Ageing". There will be a time for being drunkenly out of control again, but with such questions in the future, this isn't that time.

But seriously, i like the full mental/hidden attributes of FHM. a player with more "coachability" can get put into hard to find spots because a super star's build might be too rigid, or a player with low sportsmanship is prone to get suspended. Even wilder: hire a PT position to read PT responses and make adjustments to hidden attributes. just kidding, that ones pretty much impossible to execute, and even if it was done correctly, all it would do is reward boring "i trained and slept in the off season" posts. booo

Jimmy Slothface has had trouble figuring out what to do with a lot of his down time, and he has taken to trying to cook.  So far even things like simple grilled cheese sandwiches can end in tragedy, but the important thing is that he is doing his best and wearing extremely ugly shirts while he burns his house down.

although the lockout has been a pain in the ass for some stracimir couldnt be more excited all they have done is givin him even more time to train before the season start. Now knowing that the optimal way to play hockey is to never trust your team and simply do it yourself stracimir is ready to make big news this season. Estimated to sart at least double the fights he did last season but more importantly score this season be sure to look out for him on the ice the serbian scimitar knows no passing. Either way the lockout doesnt matter to stracimir he knows all things will come to an end and its only a matter of time before he gets to play some fixed hockey he would rather wait then then start a broken season. Bright eyed and filled with hope of a new era stracimir is here and stracimir you will fear.

During this unfortunate lockout for the Simulation Hockey League, Michael Scarn spent a lot of time pondering his future. In the current SHL, Scarn has spent a lot of time working on his Skating, Passing, Scoring, and Defense. Now, you may be thinking, these are extraordinarily general attributes and skills. For example, you could expand skating into many different categories -- positioning, pure speed, acceleration, and agility on the ice. However, currently, Scarn focuses on all of those categories of skating, for example, equally. Just like for scoring, Scarn focuses equally between his wrist shot and his slap shot. There are ripples of rumors waving throughout the SHL that the league may be undergoing a sort of skill based revolution. Rumors are that players will be encouraged more to focus on the small, nuanced skills that had previously been bunched up into general attributes like Skating and Passing. Now, Scarn may be able to focus more on his short passing, and developing an elite slap shot while spending less time on his wrist shot. For now Scarn remains dead set on working on just Face Offs.

The great lockout of season 51, what a time to be alive. I sat in my bedroom waiting for a call from my coaches in New Orleans, but none came. Practices were cancelled as all of the GMs of the SHL discussed in great detail how the league would have to change in order for the season to continue. Managers from all over gathered with the Commissioner and other head office members to decide the fate of a select few who have tested positive for skill enhancing drugs. While some of the players believed they were doing nothing wrong, others did not know they were being drugged. The action set forth by the league was one that was needed to keep the league in place. Rules were put into place for drug testing all athletes in the league and in the minors. Any one caught with the drugs in their blood would be submitted to treatment. After many cases gone through, the league was set to continue after a month long screening process and rehabilitation for players caught. While I did not participate in the taking of these drugs, I for one would be there for support. If you have enter rehab, I will be there for you. In other news, New Orleans started to play scrimmages that they allowed the public to view for free. This was put on by the players for the fans of the organization.

Anders was disappointed when he heard that the official starting date of season 51 of SHL would be delayed. He spent all his offseason working on improving his weaknesses, he mostly focused on his shooting this offseason, and he couldn’t wait to see if his improvement would show up during games. Christiansen was also ready to make a big move, since his general manager told him that he would probably start the season as a winger instead of being a center. Anders hasn’t played on the wing since his junior days and he was looking forward to seeing how he would fare. Since already he made his trip to North America, Anders decide to stay in Boston waiting for the season to start. He reaches out to all of his teammates to see how they would handle the delay. Together, they decided to rent some ice time at an ice rink in the suburbs of Boston so they could all practise together and play in some scrimmages.
