S52 Championship Week

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

The playoffs in universe N-0L4 went relatively similar to the playoffs in our reality, with a fracture in the timeline occurring in Game 7 of the New Orleans versus San Francisco series. Instead of the backbreaking 4-6 loss that was taken that game, New Orleans beat the Pride a staggering 6 goals to none. Taking on the Manhattan Rage in the Challenge Cup, the Spectors were nervous but ready. In game one of the series, the Rage got off the a flying start, beating the Spectors in a thrilling 3-2 game. In game 2 in New Orleans, the Spectors took a game back, tying the series. Games 3 and 4 were split as well, and with a 2-2 series draw, they were headed to Manhattan. Manius put on a clinic, getting himself a hat trick and leading NOLA to a 4-1 victory over the Rage. Back in New Orleans for Game 6, Jimmy Slothface turned on the jets and scored a hat trick of his own, bringing the Cup to NOLA.

By now, you're probably familiar with the attributes on FHM, and you likely have some sense of what type of build you're going to be aiming for with your player. What one attribute are you going to focus on most? Of all the attributes in the game, what is your player going to strive to be the absolute best at? Why are you picking that specific attribute above all others?
Jakob Hamr is moving up from the minor leagues to the majors, and he spent most of his time in the minors in the penalty box. In the majors and with FHM, he’s going to be a punishing defender. The stat I’ll be focused on will be hitting, making sure that when he lays a check into someone, they hit the ice. Hockey is a mental game as well as a physical one, and when you level a player early in the game, they play more hesitant for the rest of it. The plan is to make sure that when I’m on the ice, opposing forwards are always playing a little scared of getting hit.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!
In this off-season, I have decided to return home to the Czech Republic. Since I’ll be representing them in the World Juniors, I wanted to go back and see the old country before getting on the ice to play for them. It will be wonderful to be able to see my family and friends again. When I left the Czech Republic, I was going to America to become an MMA fighter. After retiring as a champion in that sport, I have risen to the lofty heights of barely making the fourth line for the New Orleans Spectors. Surely, they will be incredibly proud of how my career path has developed. I’ll be able to do some of my old training rituals ahead of the Juniors as well. Hill runs are always more fun on the hill back home, and America has strange restrictions on wrestling bears, so I haven’t been able to do that since leaving.

The SHL is taking a stand and trying to do its part in reducing its carbon footprint. One of the proposed ideas is to eliminate back and forth air travel during the Challenge Cup and Four Star Cup finals and instead hold all 4-7 games in one neutral, rotating location a la the Super Bowl. Are you FOR or AGAINST this idea? Why?
I think it’s an absolutely brilliant idea. The aerospace industry is constantly growing, and jet fuel is terrible for the environment. Private jets are particularly bad because it’s a similar amount of emissions despite fewer people being transported. Wherever possible, we need to cut back on flying if we’re hoping to reach the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals by 2050. Moreover, why wouldn’t it be on a neutral site? If you win your conference, that’s as a good as you could’ve done, so ultimately both sides should have as even a chance of winning as possible. Playing a series to make it almost even but not quite is silly.

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.

Come one, come all, and enjoy a Francisco Frankfurter while you watch your San Francisco Pride beat the Manhattan Rage! When you want to get your pride on, enjoy one of the hot dogs that you, now served in a limited time purple and gold coloured bun! Show everyone who you’re supporting even when you’re as hungry as a lion! Going for only one dollar per dog, you will not find a better deal in the city for food while watching these games. And they’ll be brought right to your seats! That’s right! While you relax and watch the game, our staff will be walking up and down the stairs, making sure you can enjoy your Franc Franks without missing a second of these riveting playoffs. This deal is only going on during this finals series, so make sure you get to at least one of these games so you don’t miss out!

I haven't really been following the playoffs as a whole so i'm not entirely sure which teams are looking to be very strong next year but I will make my predictions based off the finals standings before the playoffs. I think that the highest odds for should go to the San Francisco Pride at 3/1. They had the most points this season and made the finals, so they will definitely be back next season for some revenge. My next two teams would be the Hamilton Steelhawks at 5/1 and the Manhattan rage at 7/1. The Steelhawks finished one point behind the Pride and won the Eastern Conference and the Manhattan Rage are reigning champions so we have to give them the respect they deserve. The middle of the pack teams should all be in the range of 25/1 and 50-1 and I would say the Tampa Bay Barracuda would be around 100/1 to win the cup because they finished last last season.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Personally, I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming off-season. It's going to be a big shift from last season because we are changing sim engines. I have been talking with my general managers and coaching staff to see what exactly I should be working on and improving my game as a whole. With the Jets barely missing the playoffs, it's going to be a hectic off-season because we want to be back in the playoffs next season. We have a fantastic prospect pool with fantastic young players and so if we continue to work hard and improve, we can easily contend within a few seasons on a consistent basis. I just signed a three year contract and so now that I got paid, I have to earn my money and I want to show my team and the league that I am worth my contract. I am excited and looking forward to a busy offseason.

1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?
2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, (c) an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?

1. I believe that both generals managers and co-gms are all fantastic members of the website and know their way around how to build and conduct competitive SHL franchises. However, if I had to choose one of the two, it would be the combination of JayWhy and Luketd because I was once a member of the Rage and saw the great coaching first hand.

2. If you have the team to evenly-distribute your ice-time, then I would agree with the way that Manhattan are playing their lines. And personally that's the way that I would manage my team if I was a general manager. But you're in the finals and you want to win, so I also don't condemn playing your best players.

3. I actually do love both logos and find them to be very nice indeed. But if I had to choose one between the two, I would once again choose the Manhattan Rage because I used to play for them and I have this sort of sentimental feeling when it comes to the team. Plus the logo has so must history, I have to go with them.

4. This is a tough choice. This names are all very weird and looking through the index I honestly don't know what to pick. I think my favorite player name is Nathan Explosion because I keep thinking about if someone in the world actually has a full name like that and how awesome it would be. Plus, having Explosion as your last name is just great.

5. This is easily the toughest decision of the bunch. A grape buffet sounds fantastic, I'm not sure about looking at DaftRaincloud's internet history and a private meet-and-greet with Luke might get out of order. So I think I'll choose the one with JayWhy because he's a fantastic human being and getting a chainsaw lesson would just a great experience.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

I'm happy I get to do this task every year because I know that I will always procrastinate and that I just open up the playoff index and get to pick a player. Looking at the index, the logical choice would be Luke Thomason because he has the most points in the playoffs but for me, I am going to go with Alex Winters. He was only three points behind his teammate for the team lead in points but it's those four game winning goals that really stick out for me. A fantastic win for the Manhattan Rage and I think that Alex Winters deserves to the MVP.

Thanks @StamkosFan for the above submission. (link to this post to claim 1 uncapped TPE for the suggestion!)

I know that I have a whole lot of bias here, but I think that next season, the first with FHM will be the season for the New Orleans Specters to hoist that cup.  We have a great team and we are all very excited about moving on from SimonT.  A few seasons ago I think we were 2-1 favourites for winning it all, and I think that sounds about right for this upcoming season.  I'm hoping that we aren't considered that favourites, cause if we are not, we'll get better odds against and I could maybe place a bet and get some decent return!  As for the worst odds, the easy answer is Tampa Bay, with only 16 wins last season, they seem like the logical choice.  But my gut is telling me it'll be Toronto.  They have enjoyed a whole lot of luck in my opinion in the last few seasons, but without SimonT rolling the dice, I think they might be the longest shot at raising that cup.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

This off season, just like every single off season for Lyle had been so far is going to be a big one.  He is coming off his 3rd season in the SHL with New Orleans and he has been working hard every season and off season.  This past season Lyle was moved up the defensive pairings and started logging some big minutes, he wants to make sure that with this increased workload his level of play won't suffer at all, he actually wants to improve on his level of play in attempts to help the Specters raise the Challenge Cup at the end of S53.  So, for a short answer here, Lyle Odelein III is going to train just about everyday this off season, he and his New Orleans team mates really want that cup and they all know that they need to put the extra effort in to get there.  If you need to find Lyle before the season kicks off, I'd start at the rink...

I'm a big fan of everyone doing their part in attempts to make the world a little greener.  We all need to get better at that so we can ensure that we have a planet for generations to come.  But when it comes down to the sports I have to draw the line.  I am very AGAINST the idea of the finals being played on neutral ground.  I'm not a fan of the Superbowl being played on neutral grounds either.  Home ice advantage is huge to me.  Knowing that you are playing in front of your local supporters is something that I feel gives your team that extra little boost, something that can be a massive bonus for a team in the finals.  I would be very upset if this change was made, I promise I'll recycle extra hard to make up for it!

I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as a strategic edge with SimonT.  I guess for this series I'll go with the regular season point leaders. so I'm going to go with Grapehead and DaftRaincloud.  They GM'd their team terrifically throughout the season, only losing 12 games in regulation.  But honestly, with STHS running the show, I might as well flip a coin.  I just flipped a coin, Grapehead and DaftRaincloud took it, so my answer stays the same.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

I think Manhattan's forward distribution will be the best approach.  We see time and time again that a well balanced team, that runs multiple lines, tend to get the better of teams that rely heavily on a few players.  Being able to spread the workload around is key for a successful, long playoff run.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?

I definitely agree here, these two teams do have solid logos.  Not as good as the Specters, but close!  I think I like the Rage's a bit better though.  If I had to be face to face with either a real lion or a real raging bull, I would for sure choose to be in front of a bull, but looking at these two SHL logos I think that Manhattan's bull looks a but more fierce, so they get my vote this time around.

4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)

Looking through the two rosters I noticed that both teams have somewhat normal sounding names on them.  I guess Rainbow Dash and Phineas Gold are pretty different and both solid names. I really like Reginald MacIntyre as well, it just sounds like a proper British name.  But the one I'm picking in Ray Bork.  I grew up having to watch Ray Bourque play against my Montreal Canadiens, so I was never really a fan on the guy.  Don't get me wrong, he is an amazing player, really one of the best defenders I've ever seen, but he just played for the wrong team.  I like the Ray Bork on the Pride, because I always felt that is the way that 'Bourque' should have been written on the back of his Bruins jersey.

I don't know JayWhy's level of knowledge with a chainsaw, but I'm going to go with this one.  I know the basics of using a chainsaw, I've used one on multiple occasions and I'd consider myself somewhat adequate at using one.  However, if JayWhy has some advanced techniquess, like those crazy ass lumberjacks that compete in those lumberjack challenges, I'm 100% down!

In an alternate reality of these S52 Challenge Cup playoffs, the Manhattan Rage did not come back from a 3 to 1 series deficit against the Chicago Syndicate. This is the second year in a row were SimonT has decided that Chicago cannot close out a series versus the Manhattan Rage. This year hurt more than last because we have dominated the first 4 games, losing one in a shoot-out. After that Chicago retreated into a hole, never to be seen again. In the alternate time line, Chicago closed at this series like they should have in the real time line. Then they go on to win the next series in a close one. They eventually face off for their first Challenge cup against the New Orleans Spectors. Here the two expansion teams go head to head. Chicago ultimately prevails and wins their first of many Challenge cups and becomes the better expansion franchise of all time. I like this alternate timeline, can we make this fact?

This off season has been interesting. Chicago was ousted earlier than expected and that has really put a damper on things. So now that the season is over, Kennedy is going to go back to Ireland, like he does every off season. He will rent out his house on Lake Michigan for a couple weeks and take Saoirse with him back home. There he will go hunting, relax, cook, hang out with friends, and just generally have some down time. There is a small rink in Kinsale where he will play and skate in the offseason. He also teaches a couple camps and some private coaching for young Irish hockey players. He will most likely meet up with Westy, Selman, Otter, and/or Gunny at some point. Once the season starts to draw near, he will return to the states and train, getting ready for IIHF and the pre-season. Kennedy enjoys relaxing and his downtime, but is always anxious to get back into the game.

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?
I think that Peter Larson from the Manhattan Rage has the best chance to take home some individual hardware. He has been a very solid goalie for a long time and Manhattan doesn’t appear to be slowing down. They are only going to get stronger. He was the MVP in my opinion of the playoffs for the Rage. He not only dominated in the comeback versus Chicago, but he also put on a clinic in the finals. In game one he faced 35+ shots and wouldn’t give up more than 2 goals. This allows his team to score and win. They know Larson is going to give them the chance to win. He will win the best goalie award this year in my opinion.

JY used to be a simmer, so I think this will give him an advantage. If for no reason then he is used to the sim boning him hard, so he knows how to take that in stride. I also think the Manhattan needs to win because they beat Chicago, so therefore I give the advantage to JW and Luke.

Ice time for all, simon doesn’t discriminate. Honestly, ice time in simonT is not really determined by the numbers you set in those little boxes. It likes to do whatever it feels like, so you might as well make them whatever you want. I also think the Rage having their lines set like that, really shows you their depth.

I really like the Rage logo. It is both a bull, who are unbridled and strong, but also a symbolism for their city. I think it’s a super clever logo and really, really works. You have the city of New York, specifically Manhattan, which is known for its strong persona and the stock market. The Bull is all over the city and for Manhattan to use this but call themselves the Rage is super clever and I’ve always really liked it.

How can this not be answered with Rainbow Dash. I feel like this was low hanging fruit and if you do not choose the best name on either team to be Rainbow Dash, there is a really big issue. Not only is it a great name, but it has some amazing imagery with it as well. Rainbow Dash, dashes down the ice, like come on. Next.

Can I get two hours with Daft? Cause like two hours of watching Daft sift through their internet history, while I stare vacantly into the screen sounds like an amazing out of body experience. Plus then I can see what the rest of the world does in their free time on the interwebs.

On a reality that would exist alongside this one in parallel, we would have seen the Los Angeles Panthers made it to the finales instead of blowing a 3-1 lead against the Calgary Dragons (even when everyone knows that Calgary is known for such epic comebacks). Why? Because they added so much offensive power in the offseason. The acquisition of Mikhail Lokitonov and the free agent signing of God McZehrl are moves that put you in a high contender position when you already have guys like Max Mauldin, Borromini Cannellini, Philip Winter and some more in your offense. On that universe the Los Angeles Panthers would have closed the door in game 5 and went on to face the San Francisco Pride in the next round. They would have made it all the way, beating the Pride and the New Orleans Specters for the finale date against the Manhattan Rage. Maybe they would have beat them too.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

That is going to be one of the toughest jobs to do for next season, because with the long waited switch from the good old cracked STHS to the brand new save FHM it gets very difficult. Because there are now so many things you should be aware of. Players that had good chemistry and carried their teams could not work anymore. So when I had to do this for S53 it is only possible by doing it based on a TPE level of the teams and even this could suck heavily. So we would have a few different categories. The top teams with the highest chance are Buffalo Stampede, Calgary Dragons, Chicago Syndicate and San Francisco Pride. This have been the teams with the highest team overall. Next category would be Edmonton Blizzards, Hamilton Steelhawks, Los Angeles Panthers, Manhattan Rage, New England Wolfpack, New Orleans Specters and Winnipeg Jets. The rest of the teams probably have no chance for a cup run at the moment, but offseason is coming and a lot can change.

To be completely honest, no I haven't had spend much time with the FHM player builds or attributes till now, but I will do. The type of player I want to build is a mix of a good offensive and defensive guy with a good note of physical presence in his play. So I probably going to make a good all round build with no real important weaknesses and a lot of strengths. I will focus on the skating aspect for my build because that will be the most important part to be successful on both ends of the ice. Fast on breakaways and on back checks.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

I already had a little talk with my SHL GM of the Texas Renegades and it got pretty clear that I will join the big league for next season. So I will have to plan my move from Carolina to Texas and find a nice place to live near the ice arena in Texas. I also will fly back home and visit my family in Los Angeles, even if it's just a very short two weeks with them I will be very thankful to see them all. The rest of the time I will be out there to work on my stamina and get up some muscles so that I am not just a big bag of garbage in my rookie season. Team training camp is the other thing I am looking forward to, because it will be different this time, when you know that you are not going back to the juniors after a few days.

2.Manhattan won the cup, so this strategy was probably the better one. No that's just bullshit. Manhattan offense is so deep that they allowed them to play 3 lines with almost the same ice time. While on the Pride side they aren't as deep as Manhattan in the offense and so they played their top 6 more. 57

3. I do like the logo from Manhattan more. Maybe it's because of my history with both teams. I was an updater for the Rage for so many season, that I got very familiar with the old logo, after they changed it I liked it even more. I never got along with the hole branding of the Pride, because I am still in love with the Portland Admirals, even if everyone say that they have been cursed. 67

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

Peter - the best goalie in the league - Larson. This is the biggest of all homer picks considering this player is under the Total. Olympic. Maximised. Agency. and Solicitors. of. New. Zealand management. Peter is good, and not only is he good but he isn't even as good as he will be. Right now I could make predictions for Razov, McBride and outside Mexico award wins.

He went on a team game run during the regular season that basically recovered Manhattan's season from missing the playoffs to having a first round bye, he had shutouts in two of his playoff starts and only had one poor period during the entire playoffs.

Jaywhy and Luke, hands down. The way they have planned and built each season in order to get to this point. Bringing free agents in, trading draft capital for players to sync with our other players windows. Thinking ahead for replacing those number early 40s seasons. But also being clever about how they manage their attention. They have a full coaching team that plans and manages the lines and the chemistry between players. Freeing up the GMs to do the Gaming.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
Even lines beat up on that weak link every time. Unfortunately SFP have told the world, we have a line that is worse than our other two. The best way to exploit that in simionT hockey is to take advantage of matching calculations. Basically simion likes lines to drift towards each other. So in this instance all of San Fran lines are going to become more even to match Manhattan's. This means that weak link is now going to be playing another 3-6 minutes per game and that is going to lead to more goals by the balances Manhattan forwards.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
I actually like the pride logo more in normal cercumstance however the 50th anniversary bear/ bull logo the rage is absolutely the best logo there is in the entire field. The split face looks fierce and rage filled. Whole also honouring the history of the team perfectly. Great logo SFP, but can't beat the anniversary one of the rage.
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
Well Alex winters is great for the infinite winters is coming jokes that can be made. Larson is the better spelling so sucks to be a Larsen. There is the solvac guy on the team whoa name I still can pronounce. But also that liZard guy that used to play for us and now is on the SFP

I share a locker room with Daft, so hard pass on the internet history. I don't like grapes so likewise passing on the grape buffet. Gritty is a hockey thing right¿ Maybe in Detroit which leaves the chainsaw lesson with Jaywhy. While Jaywhy hasn't indicated he knows all the safety approaches to chainsaws (like where to park it in another person). But chainsawing is a life skill and there is never enough time to practice so this is the perfect opportunity.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

Series MVP? Duh Peter Larson. Dude played outstanding hockey for almost the entire series. There was one period in the series he allowed four goals, and even in that game he showed the mental fortitude to shut out San Francisco the rest of the game allowing his team mates to seal the series. He deserves this over all the other player on the Rage in part because the rage is such an even talent team the scoring and points are so spread out over the team. Peter's performances therefore stand out just a little more when one skater isn't so clearly dominant.

Task 3

I think that as Andrej was always wanting to be a true defenseman, someone whose main job is to, well, defend, one of the smartest choices to make there is to get my defensive read as high as I can. It sounds really interesting, it's not defending through positions, or by hitting or anything like that, your main idea is you do everything roughly ok, but you perfectly know when to pull off what move and what's the best move for what situation on the ice right now. I think it's a delightful idea and I really look forward to seeing how that works out.

Task 4

Andrej's main job during the offseason is to plan a nice and good time during his day with the cup, as he isn't sure this will ever repeat so he wants to show it to as many people as he possibly can during the day that he has allocated. Obviously, there is some time before that happens, so it's mostly staying healthy, eating well, training as much as is necessary, and just spending time around his family in Slovakia as well as he can. He get's to follow some of his other interests outside of hockey though, like motorsports, and even though he doesn't want to participate because it sounds like a really good way how to hurt yourself, just actively watching on some of the tracks around Europe is more than enough to fulfill his offseason time outside of the busy center of New York where he spends most of the season.

Task 14

1. I think the answer is pretty simple - someone as veteran as JY is on the site is a massive well of information and experience, let alone success as he has several cups under his name already. There is very little you can beat someone like him in when it comes to information about the league - not only because of the time he spent here, but for the person he is, as he really enjoys his history.

2. If NHL is anything to go by, I think the better approach is the better depth and more able bodies Manhattan can throw into the fight. There is very little priced as much as a 3rd liner scoring that extra crucial goal when you absolutely need it, especially when you exactly don't have a player like that on your roster and these small differences these depth players can make can be absurdly crucial. Not even mentioning just crunching the time away and letting your main offensive units rest up just that tiny bit more over a game is invaluable.

3. I should be biased, but honestly, the Pride logo is really nice. Some extra special flair thrown in with the colours, nice extra bit of contrast between the logo's colours adds a really nice depth to it, and I really like that it went with some non-standard colours like purple instead of the normal fairly common ones in hockey logos like this. Absolutely gorgeus.

4. I just love the sheer vocal play of Gecko's name. Tokek Takshak is such a great little thing to say, I am absolutely loving it, and even if the user or the player aren't exactly the shiniest stars in the league (maybe the most annoying after the departure of a certain Pingy Pingu), it's just a great name and I can't believe he is retiring it.

5. An all you can eat grape buffet with Grape sounds just like the experience I would have appreciated the most. Some food, some good company, and I would probably drag the rest of the GMs to it anyway because what fun it is alone with another dude eating a bunch of grapes? I certainly hope there is some good selection of them when we get there, but before all of that happens, we would really need to throw together some party of grape-eaters to not be bored there.

Task 15

I think that in the series, it has been only one man that managed to be consistently good for the team, even if everything else failed. The same guy that managed to push them into the finals over Chicago even if they were 3-1 down, and managed to push them past Buffalo with relative ease, its Peter Larsson that should very likely be named the MVP of the playoffs, as Manhattan through it's many options of how to play the game against other teams utilizes him as the main focal point the most, and he has been utterly fantastic in leveraging this opportunity. Manhattan has a real workhorse in the net, and hopefully they can rely on him for some extra hardware in the future.

Why?

I obviously support the league reducing its carbon footprint, but I do not really see much sense in playing a whole series on neutral ground, so I am AGAINST this particular idea. If you would want to decide the finals on neutral ground, I would just do one single game. The whole point behind the series is to equal out home ice advantage, which would not be an issue on neutral ground. Also it might just lead to a lot more air traffic between the two participating cities and the host city and instead of two teams flying back and forth it would be half an arena full of people doing it.

I would nominate Luke Thomason for series MVP. The scoring on the Rage was actually pretty equal with no one standing out too far in that series, but Thomason was a great overall leader to the team. And he did have his best game in the deciding game 6 of the series, where he registered two assists before scoring the empty netter and sealing the deal for the Rage's cup. As a bonus, he got awarded 1st star of that game. It's hard to award an MVP for this series because the win was an incredible team effort, but being one of the leaders of this team, Thomason definitely deserves it.

It's hard to pick one, there's SO many attributes and so many of them are new, better, more well rounded version of the STHS attributes. Given STHS's massive limitations, I'm most excited to see all the new attributes for defensive players. Even as a forward, really being able to target different ways of playing defense, being able to do different things is super exciting. Far more than just STHS "defense" (which is actually more like, intelligence). It's hard to pick one to really focus on because it's just such a cornucopia of attributes compared to STHS. I think probably most I'd focus on would be checking (nice to be separate from hitting), or stickchecking. I think probably just checking given what it is is what I'm going to focus on most. Not to be a physical, but just to be stifling defensively.

1. Though I believe Grapehead has more GM experience (I'm not sure if JayWhy had more prior to this stint with the Rage), but it's a pretty small difference, and JayWhy was the simmer for a long time, and has been around for a long time. 2 excellent goaltenders before his current player. Luke is a fresh co-GM but he had a lot of experience with the Whalers, and I don't believe Daft had any. I give the edge for sure to JayWhy & Luke.
2. It really depends what your roster is. I mean, it is an interesting choice given the STHS exploit we know of, and the rules in place from HO, the 3rd line is the only one that can have 3 scorers. So if you consider that, SFP was really banking on 2 scorers/1 passer lines. If you have 2 really good lines though, and your 7th-9th forwards are not, maybe it's best to run those 2 lines more.
3. I dunno, Manhattan's is definitely one of the best. I'm not a huge fan of the SFP logo so I definitely give the edge to the Rage in a comparison between the 2. Overall there's quite a few in the conversation but I don't think I can say for sure there's 1 that I like better than Manhattan's.
4. Well I'll say my favourite is Luca Veccelli. It's my player, yeah. If I had a name I liked better than that I would have picked it for my player. So my own player is definitely the favourite name on either team in the finals. It would be pretty silly to say my own player isn't my favourite.
5. That's a tough choice, but I think I don't have need of chainsaw lessons (my boots are composite toe anyway so not really safe for chainsawing), I don't want an all you can eat grape buffet, no matter who it's with. I don't want to see anyone's internet history. Gritty is such a goddamn character how can you not pick that one.

Well, it's obviously never easy to pick who will win the cup in any season. But especially now, we're making a change to a brand new sim engine, for the first season. We're making the transition to FHM, and so everyone will be scrambling a little bit, it's going to be a little bit of guesswork for how teams are constructed. Some teams are getting their FHM build in, but there's still a lot of players that you have no idea what their builds will look like in FHM and how the GMs plan to ice those teams. So it's so difficult to predict who is going to look the best. I have to give the best odds to Manhattan though, give the cup favourites the best odds, they've done nothing so far to prove that they aren't still the best. I'm also going to give the worst odds to Manhattan, since now that my rookie season is over they are cursed to never win again (I have won 2 cups, 1 on each player, both times as a rookie).

In a world where the playoffs have unfolded differently, a different person is doing all of this homework. The assignments will be done in a different (notably inferior) writing style. The arenas all blew up simultaneously (because this person doesn’t know the teams or players). One man survived… Gunnar Söderberg. His quest for vengeance begins where it all ended, the arena. He is alternately searching for survivors and screaming at the sky, cursing god though he doesn’t know if it is for his own survival or the deaths of those he holds most dear. A single tear falls from his eye as the jersey of David Fantobens appears beneath the cleared rubble. It falls on the captain’s C, a small circle of fabric appears as it once did, the drip washing away the grime of today’s misery. He sees the zamboni, no other mean of conveyance make themselves evident in the hellscape that he once called home ice. He rides it into the future, into the unknown….

With the transition to FHM, Gunnar will be focusing a little more on scoring than he has in the past. However, one thing that will never change are his glorious soft, soft hands. They are constantly moist, it's a little bit gross actually. They are so soft that he has trouble telling where soft boiled eggs end and his hands begin. That is to say, I will continue to focus on puck handling above all else but also kind of tied with a bunch of other things. We will also be focussing on speed and agility because he is a fast boy.

He is looking forward to going home to Sweden to plot vengeance against those who have wronged him. He shall sit amongst the fjords, they were specially constructed by his family generations ago specifically for the contemplation of great violence which nice boys such as Gunnar know is very, very naughty and would ruin their egg soft hands. Upon the fjord sits his noble steed: Maxim, the Swedish Valhund. A weiner dog sized puppy who Gunnar loves. He is Gunnar's stout companion against the world which has wronged them both. They shall have their shared vengeance, in this life or the next. After some contemplated violence they play fetch! They love fetch, they imagine it is the bones of their fallen enemies that are thrown, but in fact they are sticks. Maxim loves sticks. Much as Fenrir, the eight legged steed of Norse myth, Maxim wags his tiny tail about. To sum up, Gunnar is looking forward to playing with his pupper.

In San Francisco, the hot new product for this year's final is a package of concessions and merchandise. For the low, low price of seven thousand US dollars, you can get this delightful assortment of food and merchandise you will certainly look at in five years and say "I've never worn this even once but I paid so much money for it, so I can't throw it out." Included in the package you will find - tickets to all home games, a jersey for your player of choice, eighteen pucks signed by that same player with little pieces of paper glued onto them to make them look like lion's heads, a signed stick (not a hockey stick, just a large twig), one bucket of "Lion's Mane" nachos (which are regular nachos drowned in sriracha vaguely in the pattern of a lion's face), as well as a case of somewhat local Napa Valley wine samplers, all in cardboard boxes.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

I got to say Chicago probably has the worst shot at the cup by far. They have a pretty mediocre co him in Ofer and a very bad coach in Kylrad. I’d say the worst tandem in the entire shl. They simply just don’t care about the league so management is my reason why they have the worst odds. For the best odds I have to go with Calgary for the exact opposite. They have the best management by far in the entire shl and plus have the best dman in Chico Smeb in the FHM sim. He knows the sim better than anyone so just watch for a Norris. Mike Izzy isn’t slowing down either as hell show to be one of the best players once again. And steelheads young player is getting so much better every year. The roster is just super stacked so I can easily see them winning the cup

I am definitely going to focus on my slap shot more than any other attribute.  I’m going to be one of the best poweplsy dman in the entire league and could easily be a Ppg player as the number three dman for Calgary this season. I fell way behind in tpe as I lost interest in the league but I’ll still be one of the highest scoring D with my amazing slap shot. Expect me to win the Norris as even though I’m the third dman I’m still over 1300 tpe once I do my massive update, so I can still compete with the best of them

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Well at first Chico was thinking about just ending his career and retiring. He’s getting either quite bored with the league, or quite bored with being a dman. He’s kind of been stuck as the third dman in his prime on a strong team and hasn’t really had a chance to be elite producer. It’s his own fault as he doesn’t update much, but still it has made him lose quite a bit of interest.

After thinking about it more he decided maybe to rest free agency to play with his good friends to spark his interest back up. But I don’t think that’ll work either .

So final thought is to just re sign with Calgary and play out my career as the number theee dman. I’m happy with that as I don’t really feel like getting back into the league again. I’ll just keep doing bare minimum updates to stay relevant on the roster but that’s about it. Other than that my odd season will be spent just working on my new house and playing nhl 20

I think jay why will stomp the competition. He’s almost been in the league as long as me and knows pretty much everything about the sim engine being the former dimmer. He gives them the massive edge and will easily win the series alone
2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

I think whatever Jaywhy decides is best. I’ll just trust whatever decision he makes as he’s the second best gm in the league . Pretty much just refer to my answer above .
3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, © an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?
Well, in my alternate universe the New Orleans Specters are the season 52 Challenge cup champions. The playoffs themselves generally unfolded a very similar manner. The east was virtually unchanged other than a few minor differences such as: Poopity Scoop have 63 hits as opposed to 55 hits, Nick Connolly was able to muster a single assist, Xavier Paquette would have 1 goal and 3 assists and not 3 goals and 1 assist. Additionally Austin Roenick ended up with 36 PIMs consisting of 6 fights, 2 trips and a hooking call. As for the West, things were very different as New Orleans Specters would have won the game 7 between them and the San Francisco Pride. Then the Specters went on to face the Manhattan Rage in the Challenge Cup finals. The Finals themselves would have been a much more boring affair and the Specters would have swept the Rage in a dominate fashion making for a one-sided and dull finale to the season.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!
This offseason will be vastly different for this offseason as opposed to the previous off-seasons in the SHL or SMJHL for Lil Manius. Normally Lil’ Manius has intensive workouts during the off-season consisting of running, swimming, free weights in addition to staking and shooting drills and working with the rookies to the team to help prepare them for the upcoming season. Although this offseason is quite a bit different as SHL is going through entire change as the SHL is transitioning from a “Simon T Hockey Simulator 3.2.1” to a “Franchise Hockey Manager” league. Which means the league and Lil’ Manius play is going to be changing. Thus Lil’ Manius is forced to consider the how he will utilize himself, he is not sure on whether he should work on being; Power Forward, aggressive forechecker, punishing forward, playmaker, or counter attacking forward whatever that is. So Lil’ Manius is going to have along offseason of self-reflection to try to determine of what he wants to be.

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly do not need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. Help the concessions department of one of these two teams develop a new product, with marketing specifically pertaining to this finals series, to be sold at the arena during the finals. Describe the product and the marketing in 150 words or create a promotional poster showing the product, its name, the price, etc.
The promotions departments for the Manhattan Rage and the San Francisco Pride had to dive deep into their bag of tricks to figure out somethings new and exciting for the fans. First, both teams got together with local New York and San Francisco Breweries to develop 16 different types of beers that named after 16 teams that makeup the SHL that would only be available at the SHL Challenge Cup finals. In addition to the beer both teams also had several SHL team themed mixed drinks that were also available at the Challenge Cup final games. The San Francisco Pride had some over SHL management thoughts when they their Eggie bobble head give away for game two of the challenge Cup finals. Although there was no way that the Manhattan Rage were going to let the promotion be unanswered as the Rage proceeded to have their SDCore bobble head promotion for game 4.

Well if I had to pick I would say Manhattan. History is known to repeat itself. Okay, maybe not with Simon. What team know history more then a JY, luke combo? So logically, if you know the history, good and bad, you know what to do and avoid. Well Theoretically.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

Simon clearly does not care about stamina, so top load away. However, Manhattans third line is clearly better than San Francisco's 3rd line. This top loading helps keep San Francisco’s 3rd line out less against Manhattans. At the end of the day, it probably does not matter much, as long as you adapt to the team.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?

Well this is tough. I was drafted to Manhattan, so I have some biased towards that lovely deep Red Bull. However, San Francisco's logo is an interesting take of colors with a majestic lion. At the end of the day I would probably go with the simplicity of the rages logo.

4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)

So for starters, is Gritty out of jail for that punch yet? Seriously, hate that thing. But I would opt for the one hour session where Daft shows me everything in his internet history. People intrigue me with how they think, would love to know what goes through his head.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

It's always hard to accurately predict who will make their way to the challenge cup finals in the SHL. But if I was given the responsibility of deciding the odds the 4 teams I would give the best shot at winning would be as follows.

New Orleans Spectres - They have been a dominant team for seasons and don't show any sign of slowing down now.
Manhatten Rage - This team has a stacked roster and as this season's cup winners I think we could easily see them back in the show next season.
Hamilton Steelhawks - Controversy aside, they have a big active group that is full of people who want to win.
Edmonton Blizzard - The Blizzard have been a force to be reckoned with for a while and I don't see that changing.

As for the lowest odds

Toronto North Stars - I think everyone knows that they are mid rebuild.
Winnipeg Jets - They have made some interesting moves but I don't think its enough.
Minnesota Chiefs - Even as GM I know we are still far from the full potential we have.
Texas Renegades - Also in a heavy rebuild.

I think the best idea would be to come up with competing ideas for Finals items that way both teams can get in on the increased marketing and revenue. For the San Fransisco Pride I would go with a special green(named after dinosaur and SFP player Cleo Green) colored Rice-a-roni dish served in a bowl with a grape slushie served in a lions head cup to celebrate their Head GM Grapehead. I think this fun snack pays homage to the team's management, players, and the city that they reside in. After all Rice-a-roni is the San Fransisco treat. For the Manhatten Rage I would go with a PB & Jaywhy(Jelly) toasted bagel with a drink called the Lucky Luke. The drink would consist of vanilla ice cream, strawberry soda, and black cherries all mixed together in a commemorative Rage mug. Like the SFP version I think this combo would serve as a great compliment to the New York franchise.

Why?

I think this could be a great or terrible idea depending on how the league decided to execute it. I think that if the league were to adopt this strategy they should have teams bid to host the event 2 seasons in advance so that proper planning can occur. I think the idea would allow more fans the chance to see Challenge Cup Finals hockey which could help grow the leagues fan base to even greater heights. I would also not want to deprive the fans of the final 2 teams in the chance to see their team hoist the cup in triumph.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Collin Gibbles has his work cut out for him this offseason. As player and manager for the Chiefs he has to find time to balance improving his game along with making sure the needs of his teammates are met. There is also the S52 draft that he has been scouting and preparing for in the not too distant future. He has been splitting time in the Chiefs gym on the elliptical while watching tape of both up and coming prospects and possible free agents. Gibbles has also been taking time to tend to his Fiancee Anna Kendrick after their recent pregnancy announcement and looming marriage. He has taken time when he gets home to simply unwind and enjoy the comforts of his family as it continues to grow. Last week Gibbles was spotted with a pair of puppies outside the arena. When questioned he identified the black lab as Buddy and the golden lab as Thor. They seem to be the newest addition to the Gibbles tribe.

I think the biggest attribute I am looking forward to is a combination of checking and stick checking. When I first made my player I wanted to make someone who could dominate at stripping the opponent of the puck and drive puck possession for their team. I quickly learned that we didn't even track takeaways so that plan was shot but with the new sim I am excited to bring that idea to fruition. I hope to be one of the top forwards to redefine what it means to be a defensive forward in this league as opposed to the hit centric path the SHL has been on.

Thanks @StamkosFan for the above submission. (link to this post to claim 1 uncapped TPE for the suggestion!)

1. Hamilton Steelhawks should have the best odds to the cup winner for next season. I think we will have a great team moving forward and it would be nice to see us win the cup in the first season of FHM. We have been working hard every season to become better every season and I think we got a chance to go deep in the playoffs in S53 and we are going to be aggressive in Free Agency and see if we can get anyone that will make our roster even tougher to play against.

the team with the worst odds should be Tampa Bay, I don't know what they are doing there, there rebuild looks weird as I dont think they got good value for what they moved out last season but they are a team in a tough conference that doesn't have a lot of talent right now. Hamilton,Buffalo, and Manhattan are going to be tough teams to beat. Then there is New England that emerging to be one of the top teams in the league.

I am going to enjoy relaxing and drinking some beers awhile I see how other teams prep for the FHM change awhile I have my experts in FHM make a decision on my build and other people's build. I want to see what happens this upcoming and I need to make sure that I improve a little bit so I could have e better season next season. I want to be a difference-maker and make sure Hamilton is going to be a good team. Also, I am going to make sure that people on my team wash their hands and don't get that coronavirus this off-season so we are all healthy and can be better moving forward. I wish I could test free agency and stuff like that but it would be weird if I test free agency since I am a GM of the steel hawks. Curious if anyone would actually offer something for me.

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

Luke Thomason is one of the hardest workers in the SHL and he is one of the top tpe earners and does a lot for the league. He is a good bet to win a regular seas individual award. He is a skilled winger that can produce offense and he will be a guy that will challenge for scoring titles and I think he will lead the Rage to more championships leading forward. Manhattan is going to be a scary team moving forward and he is one of the main reasons for that. There is a lot of potential for him to win some individual awards.

I would say Manhattan has a strategic advantage in STHS, Jaywhy was a simmer so he knows what works in STHS a lot and is someone that I expect to win in this series. I know STHS is a bad sim engine but there is a lot of factors that make a difference in terms of making sure you get more shots on net and stuff like that.

2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?

I like the depth of Manhattan better, but it really doesn't matter as 15% rarely actually plays 15% so it is kinda ineffective if you think about it. Manhattan has the edge because of this becasue San Fran doesn't trust their 3rd line at all. Manhattan does and i think that will make a difference in the series.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

Manhattan won the challenge cup, which is great for them. They have a great team with a lot of high-end talent, very competitive team. I knew it was going to be a challenge to beat them this season heading into the finals. When we were preparing for the playoffs, Buffalo and Manhattan were going to be hard to beat. Iwe were quite confident in beating them but we committed too many penalties and gifted buffalo the series on a platter. Manhattan's MVP to me is probably Jaywhy he built a great team there and it wasn't that many years ago that the rage was a joke of an organization. he is a big reason for why they got where they are right now.
