3. Draft Busts 3 TPE
Alright, time to travel way back in the past to the s40 SHL entry draft. My player was drafted the season earlier among with 5 other prospects who all turned out to become 1000+ TPE players. You could say that it was a great foundation for Toronto and they would surely become a dynasty. But the 4th pick that was used to select Luuk Kraaijkamp changed a lot of things. Incite is a great user, don't get me wrong. But his player busting hard created multiple negative things. First of all good friend of his enigmatic had her player also drafted to the North Stars in that same draft. Incite losing interest and going inactive caused her to ask for a trade. Having trouble to have a decent team also saw s38 #2 pick Bobby Watson leave. GM step down and like 5 seasons later Toronto was going for a full rebuild. I truly believe if incite stayed active as popular and well like he was the team would have ended up with a much better outcome.

6. Grab Bag 4 TPE
a. That's a tough one as STHS relied more on luck but FHM pretty much only rely on a GM skills. So as a player I would have to go with STHS as I feel I have more of an impact. I feel like as an 600 TPE player I could win a cup with Hamilton playing on their 1st line.
b. 100% we would have I have no doubt about it. Baltimore is currently the team I would put as the fifth best and they are a good step below the top 4. It's sad to say but it is the reality we are in the current sim engine. Tampa Bay on paper alone should easily be in that conversation but the FHM knowledge plays too much of a factor.
c. Slash I love your frustration and hate towards Hamilton but like the city itself is fine. The NHL could easily have a team there and be successful. But I gotta say 2 Ontario teams in a 20 teams league is a bit overkilled. A good move in my opinion would be for that franchise to be relocated to Vancouver and have the junior team moved to a smaller city.
d. I'm assuming you mean the past 2 seasons. My pick would be Karl Krashwagen. I feel he's probably the most well rounded forward in the league and it's a shame he couldn't taste the finals. You can hardly go wrong here as there's like 14 teams in the past 8+ seasons who happened to be in that same scenario.

13. Parody 3 TPE
I do remember that task and wrote something about it. I said back then Tampa Bay and San Francisco should contend soon, Hamilton and Chicago have older rosters and should be out of the picture soon and that the new update and salary scale would allow more parity . Well here we are today and I would lie if I said I still believe all of that. I feel like you would give the Winnipeg roster to the Hamilton management team and they would make it a playoffs team only because of their superior FHM knowledge. Now HO is changing the regression system and quite frankly while it's a good change, I don't see it as impactful as they seem to believe. The real problem and we all know it is the sim engine. Limit people on how they can tweak settings and tactics would be a good start. It's laughable the time and energy put into minor things instead of attacking the real problem.

14. Blow it up 3 TPE
I had 2 teams in mind for that task, the New England Wolfpacks and the Toronto North Stars. But Luke taking over New England made my choice a lot easier. I expect a lot of changes for Toronto. That will now be 3 GMs in 3 seasons, the roster is pretty old and they just can't compete with Hamilton and Buffalo. A first round exit is all they can expect for the future if they keep things like they are. They need to tear it down while they still have players with good value but they might have waited 1-2 seasons too long as quite a few players are expected to test free agency. They had 3 of the first 6 picks of the s59 draft, that would be a good core to build around but one of them is already inactive. Same good ole story for that franchise, 2-3 things going wrong and they end up back to square one: rebuild.

6. ( 2 TPE )
a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?

Well I never got even close to winning anything during my short stint during STHS while I have already won 2 cups during FHM so it gets bit tricky, I worked my ass off to win those 2 but now that we as a team are on top our chance to win another is way higher than it would have been during STHS. Both had things that make them hard to achieve but as I got FHM ones those are more important to me. For league in general I think in future many will feel like STHS was more interesting and fair with its seemingly random distribution of cup

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?

As most of the teams listed there have been favorites for many seasons, would we move back to 12 team playoffs format that allowed top 4 to be from same divisions I think it would be highly likely to see that top 4. Still I could see Baltimore and to extend Tampa Bay being able to knock out at least Texas, Chicago or Buffalo out to add bit more variety (Toronto made it very close to finals in S58).

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Was it an exciting final, or predictable? Is one team the clear winner?

Finals long gone and we are the champions so I think TEX TEX TEX repeated for 100 times should count right? But for real the series for someone involved was very much a thriller at least from our standpoint as we ended up winning it all. At no point were we really testing to be above Hamilton but we were close enough to make winning it all still reasonable outcome. We started with home advantage but lost it after just game 2 and then managed to win it back again after game 3 only for Hamilton to tie it up and take the lead on game 5 that ended up on OT after insane end to third period where Hamilton managed to tie game from 4-2 with 30 seconds left. Back to back game 6 and 7 were tense specially when Hamilton had shown that even 2 goal lead with 30 seconds left isn't safe.

hahahahahaha remember this task from last season? The one where everyone was like "nah we're good, tampa and BAP will be in the finals soon and you'll see that the old guard will make way for the new young teams". Now that we have the exact same fucking teams in the final again, let me ask, is parity an issue in the SHL? How do we combat this?

Well first of all while this is first time we have repeat finals, which I guess are underlining the issue, there has been only 4 teams that have made it to the finals since, 56, Buffalo, Hamilton, Chicago and Texas and during 10 seasons of FHM we have had New Orleans make it twice and Edmonton once so for total of 20 finalists. Hamilton being currently the top dog with 7 finals appearances and 4 cups during FHM, I think these numbers get us to the root of the issue. So what we can do to make sure these top teams wouldn't be so dominant? While budget and regression changes might help I think with good GMing those can be mitigated to such extend that they alone cannot fix parity. I feel that the game has been pushed to breaking point and reigning it in by some means is needed to make field more even, to reduce complexity GMing and reduce impact of FHM skill/experience.

18. Written, 3 TPE, Apocalypse Now 150 words min
In the not so distant future (s64), 4 Texas Hamilton finals in a row have seen most of the SHLers quit out of spite. Only a select few remain. Head Office reeeeaaally likes having 20 teams so they have now allowed every user to have 5 players to fill the void of everyone who left. Name your other 4 players that aren't your current player, select their positions, and decide their focus and path in the league. Postulate where they end up after the draft and how the players pan out.

So to fill out the whole collection I would need a winger, center, goalie and another defenceman. So to start with the Goalie, Jari Molari, who would likely be full career back up with low contract and not be cared much by me or anyone else. He would likely be playing on some team that need a cheap back up, meaning any of them so lest say Chicago. Ilmari-Tapani Rautavaara would fill the role of winger, a defensive winger I would like to think, who'd be good for PK, medium effort for bottom 9 guy, finding his way to Edmonton after FA just because. After Björn's pretty unremarkable defensive career I would need to have league shattering offensive defenseman, Lauri "Lämäri" Mikkonen, playing on Hamilton because I too want to win some personal awards. Then as my new favorite I would have Sakari Keskijakaus, center, captain of team Finland and what ever team ends up having 1st OA pick for S65 Draft, maybe Toronto.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
I think a cup win in the FHM era is worth more to me since it means you were one of the best if not the best team in the league with the lack of upsets in FHM. But even still there's usually at least one exciting for the winner thats hard fought like a buf/ham/chi/tex matchup recently. A sths win could be more exciting though since it could be more unexpected as an underdog team.

b. Be honest, would we have seen the same final 4 as last year (Chicago, Texas, Hamilton, Buffalo) had BUF/HAM and TEX/CHI not run into each other in the second round?
Yea i think if they didn't have to play each other the final 4 would be the same of Chicago, Texas, Hamilton and Buffalo, but it's also been this way for a while even before the emergence of Texas in terms of the great lakes and one of Hamilton buffalo or usually Chicago being knocked out in the first round by the other, as well as Toronto with the old great lakes. Baltimore is also good though and could take a top 4 spot over one of the others.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
I still think having non North American teams like the VHL could be cool whether it be europe or elsewhere, although it would be awkward only having 1 or 2 non NA teams but you have to start somewhere, but otherwise i dont know maybe like Washington, I also think there's a bunch of SMJHL teams in markets that would be good in SHL like Vancouver, Anaheim, Detroit, Colorado. St Louis.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?
It's been a Texas vs Hamilton finals 2 years in a row now, so the easy answer would be just to pick a top player on Buffalo or Chicago like Steve Harrington or Ryuuji Minamino or any of the top D on those teams but D get a lot less love in FHM yet alone goalies.

I didn't watch much of the finals, but from what i heard and seeing as it went to 7 games I imagine it was a pretty exciting finals as most 7 game series probably are. I also think there rarely is a clear winner in a 7 game series unless one team really dominated play every single game which i don't think the case was here. I also think the result was surprising for most who just assumed Hamilton would win again, but Texas is still a very good team and with the lower tpe Hamilton has now are still beatable for the top teams if the right combos are found.

I think parity has been an issue in SHL since day 1 of FHM. I also think the same teams being at the top is not the only parity issue but that regardless of who is at the top we should not be having teams with 0-50 tampa records or winnipeg or whoever is at the bottom. I also think these 10-0 games or games with the shots 70-10 which have been a thing since day 1 of fhm are also problematic and not fun for everyone. I think thats the bigger problem in terms of parity when it comes to FHM and FHM as an engine. In terms of teams reaching the top I think it is very possible as Texas has proven, Buffalo, Hamilton and Chicago are not the top dogs in terms of TPE anymore and I think if other teams copied the meta more closely they'd at least get easily to Chicago, Buffalo, Texas tier, Hamiltons a bit special though. Thats another problem though apart from parity which is the meta that has been found so far in FHM. I could probably write 10k more words about fhm and parity but i'll save that for a potential media which will never come.

You log on to the SHL. Oh shit gotta do your Finals Predictions. Yay Hamilton Texas finals, love shl parity. Weird, the title says s61 finals predictions but its s62? But wait, all the PTs are labeled s61, we're on activity check #388, and no one is complaining about regression. You must have woken up back at the start of the S61 Finals! What do you do differently now that you know how the next season will play out. Change some of your casino bets? Predict some drama? Cheat at primetime?

not that i paid enough attention to know, but if i could i would definitely cheat on all the predictions pts and casino to make as much money and tpe as possible. I also probably missed some pts or trainings or a checks so i guess i would go back and do those. Although in reality i'd probably not do anything differently because i'd forgot or be too lazy and make the same mistakes again because they weren't really big enough mistakes for me to fix them. is it just like the shl season going back in time though or is real life going back in time too cause then i'd change lots of things. I wouldn't really want to change much about chicagos regular season anyways with it being the best of all time. I guess i could make line changes for playoffs, but didn't make any in the first place

A GM that I think is the the most outstanding in history eh? Is there even a question? Of course I am going to say the on and only Esa Anrikkanen. He is the GM that most if not all would model themselves after. I don't think I need to say anything other then his name and allow everyone to bask in his greatness. But I have to hit 150 words, so I guess I'll say a bit. Esa had an unremarkable playoff streak that I am much to lazy to look up. On top of that, he managed to consistently build a great team and, in my opinion at least, the dynasty that all other teams look to match. He took the randomness of STHS and managed to build a perennial contender, without exploiting the sim mind you. There is many things that can be said about him, but I've hit my word count, so I am done.

d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

A. I think a cup win in the STHS era is more worthy then a cup win now. STHS was so random, so thats a knock against it, but seeing the exact same teams contend for a cup year after year gets old very quick. Hopefully someone else is able to get some sim luck and make a run

B. We 100% would have seen the same final 4 if they hadn't had to play each other earlier. This goes to show my previous argument about a win in STHS being more impressive. SHL currently feels like the sim versdion of the NBA. Regular season doesn't matter and is just for bragging rights if you aren't one of the elite teams.

C. Id relocate Hamilton to just about anywhere. Or even just retire the team and disperse the players. Let them feel the same dissapointment and frustration everyone else sees by continually seeing the same teams, year after year, in the finals. Also, don't allow their GM or coach internet access so they have no way to figure out a new way to bust a sim.

D. The best player to not make a final in the past 2 years is 100% Brennan Kennedy Jr. On the tail end of his career on a juggernaut Calgary squad. He deserves to be there. In all honesty, I don't know and I'm just much to lazy to look up who thre best players have been the last 2 years.

BK3 would be a playmaking big bodied center that is able to dish the puck as well as he is able to hit. BK4 is a purebred sniper, enough said. BK5 a RW that loves cleaning up the garbage as well as standing in front of the net and looking to get a stick on a puck and tip it home. BK6 is a smooth skating, puck moving D man, much like Brennan Kennedy Jr is. Able to be relied on heavily on both ends of the ice. BK7 is a stay at home D man that is not afraid to get dirty and let the opposition know he's on the ice with a thunderous check. As you can see, I am very creative when it comes to names.

I’d like to get more in depth but unfortunately 150 words only allows so much. I’d put notorioustig as one of the role models for myself in terms of GMing philosophy and general mindset of teambuiding approaches. While I haven’t paid close attention to the exact moves that were made leading up to his set up of the S53 Reddit Draft class, the ability to time together a couple of classes and have not only a clear competitive window that’s born from advanced planning, but also creating long lasting effects on the team’s culture and locker room is something I’ve respected.

Somehow getting a a first, two seconds, three seconds and a fourth in a reddit draft on top of an already solid S52 class meant that within a season it was clear that they were on the up and up, and inevitably met their destiny as a cup winner.I think a lot of that reputation has carried over and continued, in part due to the fact they won the cup but also the quality of users that were picked in that draft. 7 members who still are earning and active on the site gives a lot of credit to the way they were developed.

c. Hamilton has a population of roughly 5 people. Where would you relocate the franchise?
d. Who is the best player to NOT make the final in the past 2 years?

a. That’s tough one. FHM era being more deterministic and less random arguably means that there is greater control on the GM/coach side of things and therefore more indicative of a GM’s ability to put together a team. On the other hand it’s clear that tactics are far too strong of an influence to the point of being more significant than other GM responsibilities that it’s hard to give credit to a well built team that doesn’t follow the best strategy.

b. Probably. The only exception might be Baltimore who would have something to say about it but at the very least you could say that three teams were pretty much set to have met each other in Chicago, Texas and Hamilton. The former 2 teams due to the lack of other high end competitors in the West and the latter because it’s Hamilton.

c. We’ve already got a team in Anchorage so I’d imagine you’d have to go even further than that. Maybe do something especially punishing like Cold Lake Alberta. That does put a third team in Alberta, so maybe you’d have to find another random spot in a province like Saskatchewan or Manitoba but there’s certainly no shortage of places here and there that the majority of people might not have even heard of before.

d. Would it be too much of an ego to say mine in Ryuuji Minamino having just broke the goal scoring record and points record? Actually I’ll go a different route, a beast of an earner in Adam Barron who probably should have had an Erik Karlsson moment at least in going to the finals at some point in what looked like a promising Toronto North Stars team. It’s rare to see that much TPE in a player, nevermind a defenseman and it was clear they were an MVP on that team.

A short term answer is just blow up the league’s restriction on stats such as leadership, temperament etc. The more randomness and variation there is in the league, the harder it is it will be to try and optimize and make the ultimate/efficiency role model style of player. Undoubtably people will test the fuck out of it especially anybody with automation but it helps to also create empowerment on the user side about what kind of player they have. Hell even open up things like hidden traits such as the passing/shooting tendencies. The more things can be weird, the more fun it can be instead of seeing limited options,  a clear cut path or at least the best path shown to this date, and roll with it.

This is punting the problem a bit because again, it’ll be clear in the relative future about which stats and attributes could be seen as universally beneficial/negative, or at least have a ‘preferred’ strategy from whoever has the most success until the league homogenizes again but the hope is that the distinction and variation will be great enough that it won’t be as significant or allow for multiple options.

In your opinion, which team is on track to completely sell off all assets and begin a long rebuild? A few teams are already in the midst of this, but what teams are watching their window slowly close and need to get younger soon in order to start the climb back to the top?

I think Minnesota has perpetually been one of those teams that has a bit of the Vancouver Canucks syndrome. They might have embraced a rebuild at one point or at least thought to get younger for the future, but never long enough or patient enough to fully see the fruits of their effort. There’s consistently a history of moving picks for more developed players, and a lot of the time still resulting in negative value loss either due to the amount they pay (high picks due do regular season finish), losing these players in FA or to inactivity. As a result their roster remains perpetually the same, directionless and without a clear objective that is actually measurable and achievable.

For teams that are competing, their rosters reflect that and their team records generally reflect that.
Teams that are young right now, and inching their way up can look at their young talent and look forward to the potential down the road.
Rebuilding teams have already done a lot of the hard work in tearing it down and ensuring they make the most of the many picks they accrued.

Yet only a single team really stands out in saying that it’d be hard for any outsider to be fully aware of what it is that the Monarchs aim to do.

If we have to relocate Hamilton because they have 5 people living there, then we ought to focus on a place with 6 people living there. Let’s say that we can put a team anywhere. I think the Albuquerque Steelhawks would be a good fit. With their population of six, the team would have the chance to have a good ol’ western cowboy fanbase.

Task 3: (3 TPE)

I think the biggest what-if since I've joined the league was absolutely Leshaun King, who went 1st overall in S43 to the San Francisco Pride. Those who were around at the time know King was fucking EVERYWHERE. He had a ton of site jobs, he was hyper-involved in the community, and I believe was on pace to smash the all time TPE record. He was such a sure thing at the draft that if I remember correctly he helped SFP rebrand to their current state while still a prospect, so that the new branding could be announced with his pick. He was an absolute sim league machine, but sadly the thing everyone was worried about happened and he just burnt out and had to leave for his own sanity. When we look at the impact the S43 group had on the league (and is still having even), King had the chance to be the greatest of us all and potentially be a Hall of Famer for the Pride.

a. What is worth more to you, a cup win in the FHM era or the STHS era?
Having played across both STHS and FHM, and won 2 STHS cups, I would say it was worth more winning in the STHS era. Anyone could win. There were no guarantees and you couldn't just go try and build a superteam or pick one team to optimize everything for you. Because just like real life, you had to get hot at the right time, and you could never say for sure what was going to happen.
