Joshua Mayer was the owner and general manager of the now defunct Vegas Vipers. Vegas saw reasonable success with him at the helm but what many people don't know was that he was actually a mob boss and many shady dealings happened to give his team an advantage on the ice.

During the season 25 playoffs, the Vipers were facing off against the Mole Rats when inexplicably Mole Rats superstar, Scott Seitz had the worst 5 game stretch of his entire career. Missing passes, bad stick infractions, and in general sloppy defensive play. He finished with an abysmal 0 goals 1 assist and a -6. Most people were wondering what had caused him to suddenly play like a 4th line plug, perhaps a nagging injury, or maybe Vegas got in his head. What people don't know was that Seitz had racked up a substantial amount of debt gambling at one of Mayer's casinos. Without the funds to pay him back outright they came to a conclusion that Seitz would throw the series to ensure a Viper's victory.

If you ever travel to the arctic lakeland you will hear the villagers speak in hushed tones about the most fowl beast living amongst them. No one knows for sure what it looks like because no one has ever survived an encounter with it, but it is theorized that it is a massive dog, with razor sharp teeth.  Deep in the frozen Depths of the Frigid Lagoons you will find the cave of the dreaded Icehowl.

On a mechanical side of things, Icehowl would have a myriad of different attacks. Your normal bite and claw attack obviously but also one where he exhales a gust of arctic wind, dealing damage and giving a chance to stun. Also when Icehowl reaches 50% hp he will unleash a devastating roar that will cause giant icicles to start falling from the ceiling that you must dodge.

Icehowl obviously has resistance to frost based damage, but to beat it having a high amount of fire damage will make it significantly easier due to his weakness to fire based attacks. Also having a high amount of mobility to dodge the icicles will also aid in your quest to slay the beast.

Ever since I was around probably around 12 I had a fond out look on the Netherlands. I always particularly enjoyed when a show like the Amazing Race would visit it, as I would get to see more of the cultural side of the country, even though it frequently just involved wearing clogs and riding a bike. I visited the Netherlands on a school trip when I was 16 and fell in love with a lot of the sights, despite not seeing as much as id have liked (fuck air Canada). I am a big museum fan and Amsterdam has a large quantity of museums that I would like to visit. I hope to be able to go back and see the Tulip fields and the windmills along side them. As well as just more of the country side and smaller cities in general as I only went to Amsterdam. I have also started learning Dutch as well and I hope to be able to move there someday.

I have been doing well lately. Thank you for asking. My friends are back in town for the summer so it has been nice being able to see them again. I hung out with them on Canada day and did a little swimming and went to the casino. My mom's friend came down and we went out for dinner with them. I've started waking up earlier and being outside a bit more which is good for the well being. I've also been watching CSI with my mom so it's nice spending time with her doing something we both enjoy. Also been hanging out with my cat a lot lately.

3.) 4 Star Cup - 159 Words +3 TPE

Well, what do the 4 stars on the Simulation Junior Hockey League (SMJHL) stand for? Well as you was said in the post, they are most commonly referred to as the four main devisions in the SMJHL these being the Cairelli / Wolker / Bergan / Mayfield. This is not true at all.

In fact the four stars on the cup for the SMJHL do stand for something different. They stand for the four founding father & mothers of the league. These being the inaugural members of the league who were in charge as the league was tarting up. Any SMJHL league know it all it in fact standard fan should be able to identify these members by name. They are of course, James, Hannah, Mark & Lucy. In fact as you ca see the first letter forms most of the the SMJHL title and only miss the S, this is covered in the “Simulations” aspect of the league.

Nah superstition is a load of rubbish. Anyone that believes in superstition In my opinion is looking for something that isn’t there. Throughout life your brain is extreamly good at finding patterns in anything. These patterns can range from numbers in a phone book to words on a page, literally anything, if there is even a small possibility of a pattern your brain will find it.  Superstition worked in the same way, your brain is looking for reason for unexplainable occurrence to be explained. Because our brain isn’t really designed to cope with only what had happened but instead is does fed to understand was has happened and also what may happen, moments of superstition become very common place. This ability stems from our history as not the only alpha predictor on the planet, our brain found ways to predict outcomes that didn’t happens and run through the cause and effect of these issues so when that scenario does arrise next time we are able to come up an suitable alternative. So in short superstition is a load of rubbish.

5.) Mysterious Person +3 TPE (170 Words)

So in my previous post I talked about the four founding fathers and mothers of the SMJHL, Mark John Luch and Hannah. Now is a prime time to talk a little more about their impact on the league. Without these four wonderful people being around the late at the same time where we are now may not have even been possible though who know if that would be the case, if this league was meant to be I’m sure four further people would have been found to form the league and it may have been named something totally different. We will never know. Anyway back to our four founding members, these people really are the creators of the league, they’re hard work and dedication to starting up a junior league to feed into the main league was fundamental to goals. There vision which has Ben achieved was to provide a pathway for rookies, veteran and newbies to progress to the main league whilst understanding all the core principles that make up the league as a whole

b. Tampa Bay’s top forwards have been absolute power houses on this run, totalling 102 points across their top 6. If you’re LA, how do you line-match against two lines that are on an absolute tear?
c. L.A.’s D pair of Kierkegaard and Kahnwald are maintaining a shocking 2 more GF/60 than GA/60, despite playing more than 21 minutes a game including PK time. If you’re Tampa Bay how do you get around these two? Hope to outlast them in endurance, or look to more depth scoring?
d. TBB’s roster has racked up many more shot blocks (294) than LAP has (188). Do you see this as a good thing? Is this an iron willed team that’s willing to lay down their bodies to get the job done, or do you think it paints a picture of a team that can’t maintain possession and has to find another way to keep the puck out. Maybe a bit of both?

A. The panthers are looking a lot sharper this season and have what it takes to go all the way in my opinion. Tampa has overcome their own set of challenges but watching the panthers play throughout the playoffs has proven that they have the offensive fire power and defensive shutdown ability to lock in a win.
B. Tampa's offensive prowess is nothing to scoff at. I think Los Angeles has what it takes though to match up well against them and it is honestly just two words - Rock Strongo. The potency of this player on the offensive side of things matches up against Tampa, and their physical play will serve to shut down Tampa's top line. Lots of LA's players are PPG and multiple hits per game too.

In the NHL there’s a well known superstition that any team that touches their conference championship trophy won’t win the Stanley Cup. Are there any superstitions like that in the SHL playoffs? If so, what are they? Where do they come from? Does your team or your player believe in them? Why or why not?

There are three superstitions that we have been taught as young SHL kings. Number 1, if you touch the 4 Star Cup last, you will get to touch the Challenge cup first. Aspiring captains all over the league know this and make sure that their first or last time around the rink with the 4 star cup (if they win it, that is). Number 2, never have your stick blade pointed up on the bench. This is a simple one but a stick blade up is bad luck for 3 seasons, and if you do it multiple times a game you've sealed your fate. Number 3, never, ever post something negative on social media about another team in the league. You will, without exception, find yourself on a side of the trade that will result in you being on the team within a couple seasons. Before social media it was the paper. Technology changes things but some things never change.

Choose a dish from your IIHF federation and tell me about it! Does your player make it? A member of their family? What’s special about it to you?

So the wonderful thing about American food is it typically is rooted from everywhere around the world, and you always get tons of it. My favorite thing of all time is hot dogs. Is a hot dog a sandwich? A debate as old as time (I personally think it's more like a taco, but that's just me). Hot dogs are a vessel for all types of flavors and toppings. There's the new york dog, the chicago dog, michigan dog, dogs from all over the country and they all provide a unique experience. The other big thing about hot dogs is the type of nostalgia attached to them. Sports even all around the countries serve up the hot tasty meat sandwiched between a soft bun, and most of us can remember going to a ball game or even a hockey game with our friends and family as kids coming with a hot dog. Brings you all the way back to that day.

Congratulations, procrastinator!  Through your terrible time management skills, you’ve unlocked a special task! [TEAM] has won it all! Were the playoffs as you expected this year, or were there some surprises? Did anything stand out to you about this season’s final series?

LA was pretty dominant this season and their run continued into the playoffs. We gave them a couple decent games in round 1 but they swept right through us, and only ended up dropping 4 games total throughout their run (I think the Colorado Avalanche did the same. The finals provided a marginal amount of resistance but they stuck with their winnings ways throughout still. Tampa may have had larger individual performers when you look at the playoff points but Tampa played 4 more games than LA. LA's goaltending was also absolutely exceptional, rocking a .937 save percentage and averaging less than 2 goals against per game.

Instead of asking you about other people this season, I figured I’d ask about you! How are you feeling? Take a couple of minutes to write about what’s going on in your life and how you’re feeling lately. I think taking the time to write things down helps me appreciate or understand them better, so maybe this could help you! Or you can just rant about your cat annoying you for 100 words and collect 2 TPE. I guess that works too.

I've been doing alright. It's been an interesting couple of years with the pandemic and all, and I've enjoyed the benefit of being able to work from home. Lately with the weather getting nicer too I've been getting out golfing, which is both infuriating because I suck and relaxing at the same time. I haven't been following the league as much lately but I suspect this will be my last time I do one of these and it's nice to have something like this as part of it. I'm looking forward to what is likely to be my final season and I hope everyone has a good time with it.

Maybe a bit of both?

a. While both teams are certainly deserving of being in the Challenge Cup Finals, the Los Angeles Panthers have clearly been the class of the league this season and are the clear favorite to win it all. The Panthers have more quality players than any other team in the league, and while they may lack that true superstar, they have several elite players which make them so hard to play against.
b. The Barracuda offense has been firing on all cylinders, but the Panthers defense has been just as good this season. They possess arguably the best defensive defenseman in the league in Jonas Kahnwald, while the rest of the top four are no slouches either. Finally, even if you can get past their defenseman, goalie Olof Karsikko has been an absolute brick wall all post season long.
c. The Barracuda might look to spread out their top forwards on different lines to avoid getting matched up with the Panther's shutdown pairing. The Panthers managed to shut down the Syndicate's top line which was the best trio in the league, so they are likely a match for anything Tampa can throw at them.
d. The shot blocking stats mostly speaks to the level of competition these two teams have faced so far and the number of games required to defeat those teams, especially in the second round. While the Panthers were able to sweep the Pride, the Barracuda were entrenched in a seven game slugfest against the Inferno, who were last seasons cup finalists and still one of the best teams in the league.

Luck is an ability which should be explicitly added into the FHM sim engine. While luck currently exists in the random number generation that I'm sure is used to compute countless decisions and actions within the simulated games, players should have a luck attribute which ever so often overrides or nudges these calculations to give the player a favorable decision. Furthermore, this luck attribute would be randomly selected for each player and rerolled every season to help give the league some more randomness and parity, with season over season performance not guaranteed. It would also give players who aren't max TPE earners the chance to have a pop-off season and contend for awards, something that used to quite common in STHS but unfortunately has gone away with FHM. I'm sure this would suck if you're a top team who just gets unlucky rolls, but as someone on a bottom feeder, it would be nice to have something help tips the scales in what are otherwise seeming unwinnable games.

Though one here. Both teams have not won a cup in a long time, and they will want to take their chance right here right now to win it. We will see an absolute bloodbath as both team will give their 110 percent to win it, but i think this is Tampa Bay that will win it.

b. Tampa Bay’s top forwards have been absolute power houses on this run, totalling 102 points across their top 6. If you’re LA, how do you line-match against two lines that are on an absolute tear?

If you want to beat that monster offense, you need to match it with monster defense. You need to play a perfect defense, not give up the puck for no reason and play good possession. If the monster offense doesn't have the puck often, they won't be able to score. That is all you need to do.

You have to try to make them tired. When they get tired, they will start making mistakes, and that is when you can start scoring. So just shoot pucks on the net, they will block the shots, it will hurt them, and it will make each and every shift more painful, to the point they will not skate as fast, so then you can beat them.

I mean it is surprising as Tampa Bay was supposed to be the more offensive team. It is definitely a good thing, it means that their players are willing to do anything to stop pucks from hitting the net. It also allows their goalkeeper to actually make the saves when it matters, rather than saving all the pucks himself and ending up missing some because he is tired.

I think it would be cool to have a consistency stat. Some players have really good skills, but don't necessary show them every night. On the other hand, some players are not really at the top, but at least will be on the ice playing at 100 percent of their abilities on most games. It would add an interesting aspect to the game, where you'd have to choose between making your player a superstar that might not perform as well every night, or a player that is well rounded but will give pretty much the same output every game. I think another ability that would be interesting to have is some sort of focus ability. It would be some sort of mental ability, to know if a player is easily distractible if he's getting taunted by another player or if he's playing away and the crowd is getting in his head. It would make away games give an actual advantage to the home team, but only as much as the enemy can be distracted depending on that attribute.

This is a very obvious choice, as Paul Koivu is from Canada, so obviously the dish he grew up with was poutine. Fortunately his mom knew how to do it, and she could also do it very well. They would not get it that often though, as it is not very healthy, but the Koivu family would even do it together, peeling all the potatoes and all that. It was kept for special occasions, like birthdays or holidays, but it was very good every time they did it. They would also make it when they won tournaments, so poutine reminds paul of him winning tournaments when he was young, and that is a good feeling.

Superstition in the Simulation Hockey league, at kind of the least in the sort of Junior League, generally is to literally celebrate every win by cascading the locker room with chants of "WEH.\" This word has developed a cult like following but actually is also directly attributable to Newfoundlands'' recent string of dominance, which essentially is fairly significant. Rumour literally has it, WEH generally has been inscribed into the trophy in a hidden location, once for each time the berserker literally has kind of won it in a actually major way. Winning has become very such a point of culture in Newfoundland, that WEH can definitely replace greetings or really mentions of congratulations. There particularly has been some murmers of the 4 star cup being renamed to the 4 weh cup out of respect to the the particularly sheer dominance this word has generally resulted in. Shell strength particularly has generally long been ignored as a build aspect in the SHL. There basically are a wide range of turtle species, that generally have varying hardness when it comes to their shells in a subtle way. As a shot blocking turtle, my tortoise shell basically has been developed for actually maximum hardness, designed to particularly repel hard rubber disks with minimal sensation, or so they mostly thought. Does this essentially mean every turtle has similar abilities, sort of contrary to popular belief. I''d like to for all intents and purposes see a leatherback sea turtle really be able to particularly take the amount of abuse I generally take in a typical period, which is quite significant. It actually is specist to actually assume that every turtle is equal, both to each other, and to particularly other non-shelled mammals in this leage, which specifically is fairly significant. A new stat introduced to FHM will be the first of its kind. It’s not to do with the physical, offensive, defensive or even mental side of the game. Instead it’ll be in its own new category “Equipment”. The stat that users on SHL can increase their effectiveness with to start is their Stick Length. It won’t be with TPE but rather be based off of money purchases that they can choose to either increase or decrease their Stick Length as they please at the beginning of the season. By improving your Stick Length, you have better reach, better poke checking abilities and certain new skill moves (TBD) will be come available to you. Unfortunately that also makes it easier for you to be susceptible to being tied up and more close up maneuvers such as tips are a bit more difficult. On the flip side, a shorter stick might mean that you don’t have the same effectiveness for pokechecking but because you’re less inclined to use your stick, draw fewer stick penalties such as hooking. Your ability to manuever the puck in tight spaces is better in comparison, even if you won’t be able to pull the Forsberg in the new 2D sim.

One dish in particular from the IIHF country of Japan is Zaru Soba. It’s been a stand out for Minamino in particular as typically the regular season ends and it becomes a team bonding experience for everybody part of the international group, to get together after the end of the round robin tournament. Regardless of how the games have gone, it signals the true start of summer and the chance for the hockey players to finally unwind. A refreshing dish where you can enjoy some noodles and cool off in the hot summer heat, it’s been a staple for many members’ youth and going forward. Not the best or healthiest but still savoury.

Feels a bit like cheating getting to talk about Japan in none hockey related elements. Typically the country isn’t even known for hockey to begin with and just about anything else, so it really comes down to what particulars each of us have, as for whatever reason it anecdotally feels like one of the most popular countries in the far east. For one, the food is just easily the top choice for me. They certainly don’t have a patent of fish and raw fish in particular, but between the history, preparation and choice of the variety of seafood that can be enjoyed, both in a casual ‘all you can eat’ setting or in a much more luxurious, chef side prepped manner, the delicacy of a fresh piece of fish is just to do for personally. In terms of traveling the country itself, again it’s a bias of not knowing or having done similar research compared to other countries, but somehow those differences in regions to others, either local delicacies or specifics in culture of appreciable, more so than looking at the west and east coast of the states. Maybe some of it has to do with the incredibly small and compact country as opposed to naturally having divisiveness through the sheer distance of a larger country, but still, having the unique aspects of a Hokkaido compared to an Okinawa makes for a repeat experience that I’d like to personally complete one day.

This has been one of the first playoffs in a long time that there wasn’t an overarching fear that a particular gray bird team would inevitably be one of the two teams in the finals. Even with last season, there were concerns that despite what should have been another downward trend, they’d still pull it off. However, if there’s anything to be learned with FHM and the site, it’s that no matter who’s at the top, there’s going to be somebody no matter what. The bright side is closer levels of competitiveness in something like the Eastern division, where multiple potential contender teams meant that it was possible for up to 3 or 4 teams to make it. While this isn’t too different than what has been available to something like the Western conference, it was more of the fact that a lot of the teams in that potential pool were new faces, hence a refreshing take on the already existing conditions.

a. An LAP team that was disappointed in a S63 finals loss is back again to face a TBB team that has been hungry for their chance in the entire FHM era. Who are you taking as a winner and why?

I'm taking LA in this one. Both teams are good and deserve to be there based on their seasons and the work they put in, but LA has been on the brink for a few seasons now and I think the addition of 2k Luukas Lilja is going to put them over the top this season.

b. Tampa Bay’s top forwards have been absolute power houses on this run, totalling 102 points across their top 6. If you’re LA, how do you line-match against two lines that are on an absolute tear?

I think you have to try and find a team system that works to slow down their offense, those players are going to get their points regardless, but if you can limit them to 1-2 goals a game and then outscore them using your own offensive skill you should have a chance to win.

Those are two great defenseman who are hard to play against. If I'm tampa bay I try and dump the puck in and put a body on them in the corners on the forecheck in hopes of wearing them down and forcing them to look over their shoulder and maybe make a few mistakes, get some turnovers and capitalize.

Probably a bit of both, but could also be that they played stronger teams in their previous match ups and faced more shots against that LA, allowing TB to have more block opportunities. They could also be playing the type of game where they allow shots from the outside and that could increase shot and subsequently block totals even if the chances are lower quality.

4. Written, 3 TPE, Do You Touch It? (150 words min.)

I think a common superstition in the SHL at least from a GM standpoint is if your winning games you don't change anything. No line changes, strats, etc, if your winning you just let it roll until you lose two in a row or your team really plays poorly. I've seen teams go from game 1 of the playoffs to the final game of the cup finals without making a single change and win it all. Sometimes the sim likes what you're doing sometimes it doesn't, then it does you don't mess with it, until you have to. I think this was probably more of an sths thing than an FHM thing, but I know as a 35 season GM who won 6 cups and went to 9 finals, if my team was playing well I didn't change anything to try and make it play even better. The sim is fickle, only change when you have to and if you win two or three in a row and then lose, dont panick, see how it goes the next game with no changes, if you lose again, maybe tweak but if your confident just let it roll and play the odds of the sim.

6. Written, 3 TPE, New Stat (150 words min.)

I would add WIDTH. That's right, how wide is your body and more importantly how wide is your ass when in front of the net screening the goalie. I think this would be a fantastic stat or attribute in the sim. You want to make a guy who's a huge net front presence, literally, then you would max out the WIDTH category. This would effect the sim along with screening to screen the goalie, get deflections, maybe even make you stronger or heavier on your skates and maybe even a larger target to receive passes and throw hits. Man this is a great idea, width, who has the widest ass in the league, what a fantastic stat this would be. I'd max it out in juniors.

My player is from Iceland, which was many know is a beautiful mythical land with lots of old norse lore and mythology. They say elves and dwarves still exist there and even have special laws protecting lands where they say elves inhabit. I know it seems ridiculous but it's pretty cool. They also say trolls are real there. What an awesome place. A rugged land where anything can exist. Iceland has a big norse history, like thor and odin and all that stuff. The people are very connected to the land and the old gods. Also they have some awesome nordic metal. Personally I am really into the Iceland metal band named Skamold. If anyone reads this and likes metal check it out.

3. Four Star, +3TPE

The four stars located on the Four Star cup are there to reflect the forefathers of the simulation hockey experience. Sure, we may not just have four founders. And the amount of impactful members that we have had since the inception of the SHL is certainly a number much larger than four. But, we can still celebrate the key members of bringing us here by honoring them with the forefather’s Four Star Cup. I like to think that underneath the stars on the Four Star cup are names of our historic team members; the likes of Leafs4Ever, Spangle, JJKrever and others. As I think about the journey that the SHL and particularly its junior league has been through, there are a number of really impactful members who deserve to be recognized within the history of the SHL with one of its most coveted trophies. So, in my opinion, the four stars on the Four Star cup are constant reminder of four or more people who brought us to where we are today as a league.

4. Do you touch it? +3 TPE

Do you touch the trophy on the way to the Challenge Cup final? It seems like a no brainer. And the SHL doesn’t have any such superstitions in the playoffs. However, I have heard that there is one superstition that continues through out the league. According to many players across the league, the visiting team in the Challenge Cup finals often brings a water bottle filled with local drinking water to spread on the ice before game 1 happens on the away rink. Just like made famous by Nathan Horton when Boston played in Vancouver in 2011. Players in the SHL have picked up this ritual and are always trying to turn the away rink into a little home away from home. And can you blame them? Winning a Challenge Cup is hard enough as it is. Having that little extra juice from skating on “home” ice when you are away from home could be the last bit needed to take home the SHL’s most desired trophy.

Normally this would be a really easy one, but I transferred before I ever played a game for the good old USA. And in Japan, the cuisine is definitely a bit different than classic American grub. But there’s nothing quite like a good old sushi roll or a bit of sashimi. In fact, Japan has some of the most incredible and fresh seafood. A spicy tuna roll is always a fan favorite. And when we travel for the IIHF and I’m with the guys looking for some Japanese grub, the spicy tuna or shrimp tempura always seem to be on the list of foods we end up ordering.

The season didn’t quite shake out how we all likely would have planned it. At least, in my opinion. While the league and the playoffs have been dominated by the likes of Buffalo, Hamilton and Chicago for the last 10 plus seasons, it was nice to finally see a few different franchises than the usual coming out of the East and West. Tampa Bay has been on the cusp and ready to show the league what they are made of for the last few seasons. And, while Los Angeles has a storied history of strong Challenge Cup performances, its really nice to see them back in the finals again. Overall, it was a really great finals capped off by having some new blood see the ice on hockey’s biggest stage.

23. How are you? +2 TPE
I am in a bit of an odd place in my life right now but I am okay with that. For the last few years, I lived away from my family in Washington, DC. In January, I moved back to Boston and was thankful to be back close to my family. But unfortunately I lost someone really important and impactful in my life in May. Since then, my whole life feels a bit unsettled. Losing someone so close impacts all of my other relationships and the girl I have been seeing just doesn’t really fit into the life that I want for myself. But it’s hard to not feel like a selfish jerk when I think about telling her the truth, because she really is sweet and deserves the best. I guess this is a bit cathartic, huh.

Choose a dish from your IIHF federation and tell me about it! Does your player make it? A member of their family? What’s special about it to you?

If I had to pick any food to represent the good ol US of A, it would have to be the greasy diner breakfast you can find across this great nation. There's nothing quite as good as a meal that costs barely anything, fills you up completely, and cures whatever ails you. Each region of the US has their own specialties and special traditions but at the beginning of the day you can find Americans everywhere digging into a plate of delicious food that has not health benefits outside of calories. My personal favorite would be Biscuits and Gravy with some cheesy hash browns and over medium eggs on the side.

The last month has been a strange time in my life to say the least. I started a new job in an adjacent field that I have less experience but after 6 months at my previous one, I knew it wasn't a good fit long term. This new job has been amazing so far. There are of course bumps and bruises as I learn new skill sets and have to approach things differently but the freedom and pride I have felt has been an astounding change. I went from working a soul/physically draining job to something I can push myself in to succeed. I also get holidays off at this job which is a first for me. I have 2.5 paid days off for the 4th and I just didn't know how to act when I found out.

In the NHL there’s a well known superstition that any team that touches their conference championship trophy won’t win the Stanley Cup. Are there any superstitions like that in the SHL playoffs? If so, what are they? Where do they come from? Does your team or your player believe in them? Why or why not?

There are of course a plethora of SHL playoff superstitions that have been passed down through the ages. One of my favorites is that any team that scores an empty net goal in the first game of a series will lose the next 3 games. While this hasn't happened in every instance, it often leads to players hoarding a puck on a 1 goal lead after the other team pulls their goalie. Some times players will go so far as to just skate behind the net with the puck and hold it against the boards so no one can do anything.

Another popular superstition for the SHL playoffs is that if your team captain wins a fight against the other team's captain, they will win the playoff MVP trophy.Obviously this grew from the positive reception of a team captain protecting his fellow players and leading by example, but most captains seem reluctant to drop the gloves with another for fear of being on the losing side of this legend.

The true meaning of the four stars on the SMJHL playoff trophy have often been forgotten and lost to the annals of history. Many older players have their own theories of what the separate stars might represent but it wasn't until a recent memoir of the first SMJHL Commissioner was located at an estate sale that the truth could finally see the light of day.

1. Fighting - The early days of the SMJHL were often filled with players trying to play a more physically intimidating game compared to today, this lead to many on ice altercations and filled sin bins in the playoffs.
2. Finisher - The second star represents the drive needed by players in the SMJHL to score the last goal needed to bring home the championship.
3. Franks - The league was originally funded by a local hot dog magnate and players would often fill the cup with hot dogs and eat them on ice after the presentation of the trophy.
4. Fornication - well I think you can figure this one out on your own.

I was hoping for a better fate for my North Stars this season, but overall the playoffs did not disappoint this time around. The Los Angeles Panthers have built a dominant machine, and judging by their performance I think everyone in the league should be concerned about a new dynasty to deal with. The most surprising detail of the finals was perhaps the fact that the leading scorer in the playoffs was no longer playing. Buffalo's Chimkin Wing put up one of the best playoff performances I can ever recall, and it's too bad we didn't get to see what he could have done with a fourth series of games.

I'm taking this prompt because I just finished moving over the weekend, and I had to put off doing my CW (classic) until today. I'm doing pretty well overall, now that the moving is over with, but the stress hasn't really worn off just yet. I'm looking forward to this upcoming week though, because we'll be settled in at our new place by the end of it I'm sure, and I'm hoping the fresh start will help with working on some new habits. We're also taking a day trip to a neighbouring province for a friend's wedding, and it's been quite a long time since we've travelled, so that has me so very excited.

a. An LAP team that was disappointed in a S63 finals loss is back again to face a TBB team that has been hungry for their chance in the entire FHM era. Who are you taking as a winner and why?

The Los Angeles Panthers are the clear front runner, or were before the series started. Now that has ended, I do not think there are many people who are surprised. Los Angeles has been one of the most up and coming teams for the past several seasons, and if someone had to break the hold of the big four, it was likely going to be them.

b. Tampa Bay’s top forwards have been absolute power houses on this run, totalling 102 points across their top 6. If you’re LA, how do you line-match against two lines that are on an absolute tear?

You do your best to shut those two lines down, defensively. If they only have two amazing lines that can produce, it seems fairly simple that making those two lines stop performing means the team will have a hard time winning. It would be interesting to see those forwards split across all four lines instead.

It feels like it makes sense to split the powerhouse forward lines across all four of their lines so that there are always a couple great shooters facing the Los Angeles defense. They can only play their two best forwards some of the time, so by splitting the best players up, you will have a constant barrage against the Panther's other defenders.

It is probably a bit of both, but I would imagine that it is a bit more of the latter. If a team is winning as much as Los Angeles is with as few shot blocks as they have, they are clearly doing something right in the possession category. We saw how it played out in the final; LA was the better team.

6. New Stat (3 TPE)

If I had the ability to put any new stat (attribute) into Franchise Hockey Manager 8, I would probably pick Intelligence. It would be a pretty simple stat that would give minor bonuses to all other stats depending on its level. Everyone would start with a 10 unlike other stats, but each user would have the option to lower the stat in order to raise another stat equally to the amount of times you chose to lower Intelligence. This could only be used for one other stat  at a time, and could be switched once per season in the offseason. However, once you lower Intelligence, you can not raise it again. The cost to raise the stat from 10 to 20 would follow any other stat, but the cost to lower it would be in increments of ten. So 10 to 9 would cost ten TPE, and then it would cost 20 and so on. It is a particularly dumb idea, but might be a fun experiement.

The Four Stars in the four stars cup are thought to be about the four different divisions in the league, but we both know that is incorrect.  Some people think that it is about the four founding members of the SMJHL, who were banned from the SHL for their bribery scandal, but that is also incorrect.  Others think it is based off of the first four flavors of Ben and Jerry's to ever be released, but you guessed it that is also wrong.  For a long time there was a giant rumor that it was based of of the Russian 5 of the Detroit Red Wings, which clearly makes no sense as it's even in the name... The Russian FIVE, so how would you get four Stars out of that?  The true and 100% honest answer is that it based off of the four directions that we have, so when you see North, South, East and West... that is where your Four Stars come from.

Everyone knows that there are superstitions in sports, and a lot of them come to the finals and the trophies that they give out.  In the SHL some of the bigger ones are not to shave at least when the playoffs start, where a lot of teams push not to shave at all during the season.  Some of the other teams push not to go out onto the ice before 7am, for fear that the Ice Gods will punish them for waking their slumber.  When it comes to the Specters one of the major superstitions is not to let the Overdoo plushie right on the team bus to the Arena, but it MUST be in the arena.  So basically it has to ride shotgun with one of the Team Mom's to each and every playoff game.  The one time that it was forgotten the whole team got malaria, and we all know how that season ended.  Hopefully that plushie will never be forgotten again!

Coming soon in the latest version of FMH eight is going to be the new "Bulk" skill.  Unlike strength this one doesn't make you stronger by pumping iron and allow you to level someone with the flick of your skates.  Unlike fighting it doesn't give you that leg up in knowing how to fight, when to fight, who to start that fight with, or how you are going to pull off that finishing move.  Unlike hitting, which helps you know where to take someone out to get them out of the play.  Unlike Stamina that helps you go longer and longer around the ice, slowing others while you've still got that second and third wind going.  The new "Bulk" skill allows you to absorb the strength from your opponent, it allows you to take that extra punch in the fight, it allows you to get a hit and keep on ticking, and keeps your player going around the ice when everything is coming at them. BULK UP TODAY!
