Scouting Report: Barefoot Sugars, 16-year-old Left Winger

Height: 6’7”
Weight: 220 lbs

Sugars throws his weight into everything he does on the ice. A quintessential power forward, he can use his speed and agility to catch up to any skater, and can hit them harder than almost anyone. He’s a monster in the corners, and a thief in his ability to steal the puck from scrums, and his wicked shot makes him a threat from anywhere, with the body to belong anywhere. He also can read the defense and use his bulk to effectively screen the goaltender. On the defense, his positioning and reading abilities are sound, and he can be brutal with his stick and his ability to steal pucks to ruin dangerous plays. He’s fast, he’s strong, and he’s a bull in a china shop who isn’t afraid to get cut wrecking some goddamn china.

But he’s got foibles to work on. His passing ability needs work, as he can struggle to get the puck to the right spot. He also struggles with his form when it comes to blocking shots. Not that he doesn’t want to, he sacrifices his body whenever it benefits his team, but his form makes his effort and heart redundant.

Regardless, he’s a strong candidate to become a tough, scoring-threat big man in a draft full of them.
