Scouting Report: Hingle McCringleberry, 16-year-old Right Winger

Height: 6’2”
Weight: 210 lbs

Straight out of Penn State Penitentiary, McCringleberry brings the physical game to the whole ice surface in every game he plays. He’s a big, fast player who can use his bulk with his deceptive speed and acceleration to outskate his opponents, and he has the agility and balance to get around anyone, and the strength to go straight through. In the offensive zone, he can use his reading ability and puck handling to create space for his teammates to make the play, or to get in-close to find a shot in the goalie’s face. On the defensive side, he can use his positioning skill to make his stick a deadly weapon to any puck-carrier. He’s a package of intriguing skills.

But McCringleberry is also quite raw in a few areas. Though he is versed with strength, his checking and hitting aren’t as refined as many would like. His shot struggles with distance, and he fails to create good chances with screening the goaltender, a shame given his size. He also struggles with using his body effectively to block shots and take faceoffs to help his team. He tends to avoid physical plays when he really has no business doing so. If he learns to use his body unselfishly, it means more happy coaches, and likely more ice-time, which would be a treat for the fans who will no doubt love this player when he moves to the next level.
