S71 PT#2: Amenities and Appellations

Quote:Written Task: Tell me what your player cares most about in terms of stadium amenities. What do they expect to see? What would surprise them, positively or negatively? What do the weight room and film room absolutely have to have? (150+ words)

Spack is probably most impressed with the leisure areas of the arena. Not so much for laying about or hanging around but for the comfort and accessibility of things. One thing he really made a point of emphasis on in team meetings is a larger selection of breakfast cereals. Having the ability to choose between a dozen different brands is a significant thing to Jarrow. Growing up he always dreamed of eating all of those colourful cereals he saw in commercials but not being from North America, many of the brands weren't available. So he vowed if he ever got the ability to try every cereal he could get his hands on. And so he followed through with his childhood dream and makes it an event to find a new cereal that he hasn't tried before and buy a box and give it a go.

So far his favourite for healthy eating is Shredded Wheat but a baggie of Cheerios is also something he is often seen munching on. His secret love though are Froot Loops. There is something about the flavour of the cereal combined with the sweet sugary milk at the end. Don't tell coach.

Player prompt

For Dusty Rhodes, two amenities are required in the new stadium. First is a state of the art players kitchen, Rhodes likes to eat and he loves to cook for his teammates. He would really like a space he doesn't have to share with the stadium employees who are just trying to get their jobs done while Rhodes is in their way whipping up some fancy culinary surprise for his team. It would be great for both Rhodes and the staff to get out of each other's hair as they have grumbled under their breath about what a pain in the ass Rhodes is. The other amenity has to do with Rhodes unique workout style. Rhodes, instead of banging weights and skating laps prefers to do his training in a wrestling ring. He feels that it is a vastly superior cardiovascular exercise that gets him in better shape for the rigors of the SHL.

Written Task: Congratulations, you managed to get the local taxpayer to help fund your owner's new arena, and you don't even owe them ticket discounts! Now, you're being asked for your input on two points: what should the new arena be called, and where in the city should it be built? What's the Arena district going to look like now? (150+ words)

The new Nevada Battleborn arena is rumored to be built in true Vegas fashion... over top the beautiful Bellagio fountain! That's right! The Battleborn will be bringing pond hockey to the Nevada desert. Insiders have reported that the stands for the "arena" will be built around the Bellagio fountain for fans to watch their favorite SMJHL team play!

Before each game, the fountain will be flash frozen for the nightly games and will still be able to accommodate tourists during the daytime when unfrozen. This new unprecedented arena will undoubtably excite fans as the possibility of incorporating fountain shows/ water works to the games is endless.

Las Vegas city officials addressed concerns that these plans will take away from the downtown Las Vegas strip area by stating that it is more important to grow the sport of hockey and the Battleborn fanbase, which will in turn benefit the city as a whole.

Player Prompt:

What do we know about August Von Hecht? First of all, one of the worst kept secrets in Hockey is that Goalies are crazy. August is a goaltender, he also loves his German Techno scene and those raves get crazy. So for his dream barn, a top end sound system to hype up the people of Florida would be primo.

But August isn't JUST all about music, he LOVES his beer. Ever since he got drunk following a bad loss and followed it up with a shutout back in Anchorage, the Chad German always makes sure to drink his share of beer the night before. Cheap, Plentiful, and of course GERMAN beer is a must. Now given that American Companies as well as people wont be too happy to not have access to their favorite American names on their can. August would have to have his own preferred brew, Warsteiner, simply brought down to him.

Perhaps it should be near the weight room, which brings us there. Top of the line should be bare minimum. The Simulation Hockey League is the BEST league in the world and these teams make so much money on the whole. (Aside from maybe Minnesota.) Lacking a state of the art, world class training facility in their own home is inexcusable. But why not give it a Miami Beach flair? Imagine a Venice beach idea, but inside and call it Miami Beach?

Story Prompt:

Well in todays corporate world everything comes down to one thing, can you guess it? Did you guess Money? Well if you did you are correct. The naming of the arena would come down to whoever is willing to pay the most for the naming rights to the arena. There would be a couple of items that we would be selective on, it could not be rival fried chicken business to the one Kondos owns, and it also cannot be a website. Like what are the LA kings dooing with cypto.com arena, just a brutal name. The old oilers arena as Rexall place was also not a great name. So with that being said lets get the auction started to the naming rights. The stadium would be located in Dallas Texas, and would also house the Dallas stars, however since the texas renegades are the main team, all the branding would be for Texas and not the Dallas stars. It would be just on the inner city limits, allowing people to get there easy enough, and not cause a logistical nightmare.

Well It would be built on the outskirts of San Francisco as wouldn't want the public to be crowded and dealing with the traffic of games. So the new Arena will be called the Pride Den. Simple as that as I definitely believe the motto behind It would be "If you don't have the pride, take your time and leave in stride!" as pride in our team Is the most important. Now The arena district since its on the outskirts we would make sure to accommodate the local businesses by making sure to only put stores that would be able to gain business without take it from the others around. We would work with the locals as well of allowing them to sell our team gear If they are a clothing store that can support selling our stuff. We would also make sure to donate into the community by helping repair the roads if any were damaged and just making It look pretty. Now we would have to buy out some people for parking, but I definitely believe we could make It happen and have those we buy out by giving them season tickets to the games if they accepted the buyout.

Player Prompt

I think most importantly the stadium needs to be clean. It doesn't need all kinds of wasteful amenities, as long as it provides a good and clean experience. It would be cool to have some fun things for players to do in their downtime. Some games, maybe like a pool table or air hockey. Another good idea could be a kitchen for the players, whether they make the food themselves or a professional is hired. It's important that the weight room has the absolute essentials. Free weights, benches, barbell, squat racks, pull up bars. Then throwing in some more advanced equipment to guide the exercises would be great. Cables, chest press, leg press, shoulder press, etc. Obviously some treadmills and stairs machines to get some cardio in. From there, it would be cool to get some hockey specific equipment. I am not sure what that would look like, but there are probably machines that simulate the ice staking to train your strength in that particular motion. There's a lot of cool things you can do with a weight room if you have the resources for it.

Creative prompt.
Dumbass taxpayers fell for it again. Yet another arena fully subsidized by the public dime, and no benefits aside from "tourism revenue" - as if this would not exist without the taxpayers giving billionaires a free billion dollar arena. Anyways, due to the amazing cost of the arena, it should absolutely include a full suite of amenities tailored to player comfort - world class gym, spa, nutrition center and player learning facilities. as for the name, it needs simply be called "The Forge", the district can be appropriately named the "Slag" or even the Slag Center. The arena district should have a lot of bars with ample patio space that can be covered during the cold ass winters so the space is still usable. As for location, it doesn't really matter because all of Philly is basically a shithole anyway, so one close to the mafia protection rackets, so that there is a good amount of protection and things wont go sideways is probably the best location we can scout for.

Peter Tingle is an arena lover! Always looking at what different arenas around the league have to offer. There are a few things he cares most about but it depends on who they’re for.

For the fans, it’s absolutely necessary to have more than enough bars and food stands to get those mid game drinks and snacks. Equally important is the need to have enough washrooms. Waiting for too long in a line can ruin an experience for any fan and that’s what we do not want.

Next for the players, ensuring the players have an appropriate work out facility on site is important. You can’t be travelling all over the city to get the amenities you need. So having a gym on site is important. It’s also nice having a seperate room for media because post game it is annoying to have reporters coming in the room. It’s nice to gather your composure before heading out to an interview room rather than getting caught in the heat of the moment.

So when it comes to stadium amenities, I would say one of the most important things to have is comfortable seating. There are way too many arenas in the league where the seating is awful. They’re squished too close together to try and maximize seating and it causes too many issues with how comfortable people are during the games.

On top of that, I would want there to be a lot of great food for our fans. That way when they are in the arena they are enjoying themselves and speak well about the food and seating. This as a combination will make it possible for us to have a more luxury experience and we could probably make a little more money by selling the tickets for more.

For a player facility perspective, I would want all of the best equipment we can find. Especially some of the newer technology stuff like cryo chambers for recovery and just overall the new equipment that’s used to monitor body performance and recovery to ensure we are always in top shape and ready for our games. Those little things could give us the edge over the competition.

Forever needs a lot in his stadium to be happy. Of course the fans need to be comfortable so he always pushes for those movie theater recliners which would be awesome but the owner is TOO CHEAP. anyway in the locker room Forever needs a tv in his locker so he can have a bunch of video games that he doesnt play and then just plays on his phone. The arena must have good food, if its expensive so what hes a millionaire. But hes happy as long as theres options to eat food because when the arena has shitty food its not fun. the arena also must have good goal celebrations. THe horn is essential along with a goal song that is catchy and everyone knows. There needs to be pyrotechnics because well thats just cool. Finally Forever needs to have good advertisements. Its important that he has ones that he supports. Thats why vancouver has cinnamon toast crunch as an ad.

sebastien regazzoni of the simulation hockey league franchise hamilton steelhawks, located in the beautiful and historic ontario hockey town of hamilton (also home of the university of waterloo, where i almost applied to go to college) does not ask for many amenities in his home arena, contrary to what you would expect from a man who looks and sounds like the german version of a young jeremy clarkson. all he really asks for are a nice locker room stall with air conditioning and maybe a cushioned seat (that's a stretch), and a fridge in the locker room where he can drink some gatorade or biofuel or whatever sports drink he drinks on a practice day. it would help to have a television to watch game film or any other live sporting event, but that's something an ipad or computer can do as well, so besides that he doesn't really have any wishes for amenities.

Ryan Quintana Green is a pretty low maintenance chap, he doesn't need much to be satisfied on a day to day basis. If he had to choose a locker room amenity that he can't live without, though, it would be a state of the art speaker system. One of the ways Ryan Quintana Green gets in the zone is by listening to music. He usually wears headphones in the locker room when he's not sociallizing with his teammates, but sometimes headphones just don't do the trick. Quintana Green and his teammates love to blast music to get pumped up. It helps them build up that energy necessary to play at their best and also just have fun being themselves. That is why if RQG could replace one thing, it would definitely be the speakers. Its not even that the current ones are so bad, but they could definitely be better. Also, throw in a hot tub for good measure!
