S75 SMJHL PT #2 - Season Preview Due: Sunday, February 18th @ 11:59 PM PST
#31

The St. Louis Scarecrows are hoping to create a surge in success, thanks to few young key players that could make a more significant contribution this season. Alexa Johansen, the second overall pick, brings dynamic offensive skills, while Kris, the rookie goaltender, showcases maturity and consistency in the net. Wyatt King, the sophomore first line center, adds playmaking and defensive prowess to the team. An honorable mention goes to Jack Booth, a waiver wire pickup, for his defensive versatility and valuable contributions on offense.

Alexa Johansen's speed and scoring ability, Kris's reliable goaltending, and Wyatt King's two-way play will hopefully elevate the team's lacking performance from last season. Booth, a surprise addition, looks to prove his worth with tenacity and adaptability. Together, these players form a promising core, providing the Scarecrows with a well-rounded lineup for years to come. As the team continues to develop, these rising stars and unexpected gems are positioning the St. Louis Scarecrows for a successful future in the SMJHL.

As we approach the middle of the season, the Great Falls Grizzlies look to be putting up quite the fight. Considering their division opponents, every point matters and the Grizzlies are clawing their way through the games, keeping up with not only the defending champs but the teams that came closest last season.

Leading the charge is of course team captain Jani Mänty. While the 6’5” center cuts quite the imposing figure, and is for sure a threat on the ice. Equally important though is his presence off the ice, and interviews with his teammates all show that this captain has earned the respect of his teammates, and holds them together in the locker room between games just like he leads them on the ice.

Emphasizing the camaraderie that this team has developed, we can also look at the third line forwards, James Howlett and Thomas Hudson. The whole third line has been popping off this season, and these two have been appearing a lot on the scoreboard during these games. With both of them being rookie prospects, the league is excited to see how far they go.

Finally, any look at the Grizzlies has to also mention their goalie Lee Harrison. With three shutouts this season and 89.5% SV%, this godly goaltender is the backbone of the Grizzlies.

The Knights are going to look sharp in their upcoming season. And why shouldn’t they, they drafted some of the best talent in the league. Plus they have some already strong players. Like Jerry Moonshine. Jerry is a shooting machine… not literally but close enough. He will put pucks on net and points on board. James MacAvoy is another deep shooter. Likely to put some solid points up on the line with Jerry. Centering them is Blant Chorski and im sure he will get them the puck for some solid points this season. Lets talk about the big deal though. The drafty Mark “The Tater Tot” Jagerson. He is a legacy and clearly a key part to any team. Mark knows how to be effective on the ice from watching his father and will probably average a point per game even in his rookie year. That is a prediction made knowing half the games have already been played. But I won’t regret that prediction come end of season. Surely not.

The colorado raptors, or rappers as we call them, are on the way to a succesful season in a very challenging division. The team results, especially when playing at home, are showing the dinos continue on their stride from last season playoffs. One player who was added to that team from the draft if Chuff D'lee. Cheff is a meaty defensewad and is playing very solidly in front of our goalies. Another player who is having a lot of success is Jussi Mutou. Mutou is the captain of the nappers and he has stellar production offensively. It carries over to his teamates as the rest of the team is also producing at a spectacular rate. The last player I want to mention from the raptors is Oranje Konhe. The defenseman is a steady and reliable piece of our team, when everyone is focusing on point, the cone defends our side the ice by being a huge orange pylon. and it works! Rumors are Oranje would like to produce more points but the jinx is real and when he produces, the raptors lose! so he is asked to defend first and only try for goals when we lead by 5.

For the Nevada Battleborn, we are looking into a rebuild/down year for the squad, as veterans and experience leave the locker room, youth and inexperience flood the locker room. Now I'm not calling all of our rookies bad, far from it. They are a fantastic group of people who have been genuinely amazing for this franchise, but their (and my) time will come next season. the 3 key players this year will be Cal Juice, Literally Wizard, and Just Perfection. Cal Juice is one of the veteran players still on NBB, and will be critical in scoring points, and showing all of the new forwards how to get it done in terms of scoring, passing, and skating. Literally Wizard is currently playing at centre, and is one of the key pieces of this team. As long as he continues to develop well and continues growing his stats, he will be golden. Just Perfection is NBB lone "Active" Goalie, and is the only goalie that has played in NBB wins. His development into a maxed out Goalie will be crucial for the team now, and for the team in 1-2 years
