Written Option 2
If I could change one rule in any league, I would chnage the challenge the play option in the NHL. Right now you can challenge  goal whether the puck carrier was actually onside when bringing the puck into the offensive zone. I would not get ride of the rule completely but alter the wording to it. Because I feel like the rule is being used in an unintended way. The offensive team can be in the offensive zone for 30 seconds and a team still challenge whether it was brought in onside. After a certain of a time, it should remove the option for challenging as the play no longer is dependent on the puck coming into the zone. I think if the puck is slowed down at all, if there is possibility of change of possession, or a time limit of 20 seconds is hit then the play can no longer be challenged. Something to keep the rule from being abused like it is now.

If I could change one rule in hockey, I would change the rule that says you can't take off your skate and try to use it to stab somebody. That seems like a silly rule, we're allowed to punch each other so why can't we also try to stab each other? This would level the playing field for skaters who aren't quite as big as their opponents allowing them the ability to fight above their weight class. It also brings some added strategy to the game as it is pretty hard to get around if you take your skate off, so you have to time it perfectly. If you decide not to use the skate, you have to get it back on your foot really quickly so as to make sure you are still involved in the play. Ultimately, this feels like a major change for the better in the sport and one that I am pretty clearly going to be arguing for at the next local players association meeting. /s

Written Option 2: If you could change one rule in hockey, of any league, which rule would you change, how would you change it, and why that particular rule?
If I could change any rule in hockey I would do something that most people would find insane but I truly think is awesome. I would make hockey 4 on 4 instead of 5 on 5. I've played ice hockey for 23 years and roller hockey for 10 years. The three big differences between them are that it's 4 on 4, there's no icing and there are no blue lines. All of these factors roll together into a game that is very skill based and man to man rather than hitting and grit. A lot of people for the hitting but I like watching and playing a speed and skill based game. With 4 on 4 being out of position would be punished with a goal much more often and we'd see a much more possession based game. I know that'd be controversial but I think it would be really fun to watch. I personally enjoy 3 on 3 overtime and this would be a game that's a little closer to that style of play.

After watching and reading about how well the PWHL has implemented the “power kill,” that would be my choice to change a current rule for hockey. For those that don’t know, if a team on the penalty kill scores, the power play is over. It, in my mind, encourages teams to utilize their top players on the penalty and truly ride the horses that are usually their best options. Power play teams have to be aware of more options when playing and it wouldn’t discourage teams from attempting to score on the power play either. I think it’s something that is all together a minor change in terms of rule, but one that would change the way penalty kills would be run going forward. It would likely also improve scoring and exciting moments in games, something that most leagues are always trying to encourage and develop, all without having to shrink goalie gear. Again.

If I had to change one rule in hockey it would probably just be a slight adjustment to how playing the puck with your hand works. I think you should be able to score goals by just chucking it into the net, but you only have a limited amount of times to try it per game. If you hit another skater with it, you’re automatically removed from the game and get a nice sit down with player safety. High risk, high reward. You’d have specialists on your team who can just bend over mid skate, pick up the puck, and toss that shit in. Thrown pucks would be an important and rationed part of the game a la timeouts. I have no real reason for this other than it being conceptually really funny. Imagine the goalie rage if a team ties or even wins the game on a last ditch thrown puck. The stuff nightmares are made of…

For changing the rules of hockey, the one thing that I want to get rid of is the shootout. We should be keeping that for penalty shots only, and having four on four overtime to decide the fate of hockey games rather than a small skills competition at the end of a game which still doesn't make much sense to me. Teams shouldn't be rewarded for just surviving - they should be rewarded with 2 points from winning the game, not a skills competition at the end of a game. Will the rule ever change? Probably not but it's a nice thing to dream about. I think playing four on four overtime would probably take too much time and that's why the NHL and SHL opted for the shootout, because more often than not it ends the game quicker than overtime would. But for the sake of enjoyment, I think that hockey should go back to the overtime format, as it is much more entertaining to me than the shootout.

In the NHL, I would wish they would change their points system to the IIHF 3-2-1-0 system.  In the IIHF, 3 points are awarded for a regulation win, 2 points for an overtime win, 1 point for an overtime loss, and 0 for a regulation loss.  This would reduce the randomness of how many points are awarded in each game, as instead of a chance for a random number of games to award 3 points and not 2, all games would award three points.  This would also alter how teams and players tackle end of game situations, most importantly in tie games late in the 3rd.  Instead of playing safe to guarantee 1 point, both teams are more likely to push for that extra point.  This also eliminates a ton of the issues with current standings where a team with double digit ot losses gets in, and punishes teams that get into overtime regularly.

Sonja is known to be a shit-talker in the Québec City Citadelles lockerroom as such it comes as no surprise that she can either be the one to instigate the beef with a fellow player or to be the one that would respond to a shit-talk from a fellow player. She has two players who she had or would have some kind of shit-talking. That is if we do not count her fellow teammates who she had a few beef with in their rookie years though that was of course more so as a joke than anything else. So the two players Sonja would most likely have a beef with would be Alexa Johansen (@cake307) and Ólafur Atlason (@HabsFanFromOntario). With Alexa their story goes well beyond the J and their beef is more of a banter kind of beef than an actual beef but Sonja would be down to a bit of shit-talking any day of the week. While with Ólafur it's more so thanks to their encounters on the ice as well as the fact that Sonja is not fond of Swedish people. As for how the beef would go down? Obviously Sonja can easily win a beef with either of those two (not biased at all)

If I could change any rule in hockey, it would probably be to change players from 5 vs 5 to 3 vs 3 at all times, not just overtime. Listen, i've been to a bunch of hockey games before, and while entertaining, 3v3 is just so much more active to watch. So much room for error, hockey scores will go way up and be a fast paced action point battle at all times.

Now to the detractors, I don't think it will change the way the game is fundamentally played all that much. I think the number of players on a team total will remain pretty much unchanged, as all players will have many more shifts that will balance out. Additionally, backup goalies become even more important, as fielding 100+ shots a game take was too much of a mental toll on just one main goalie. And then overtime would then naturally shift to only pks, making ends of games even more exciting.

Goaltender interference sucks. It sucks when it’s called and it sucks when it isn’t called so you know how we’re going to fix this? Completely remove it but allow goalies to absolutely bulldoze players. I know they can already a lot of the time but make their interference legal as well so it’s never called. Basically let every goalie become Tim Thomas in 2011. This would remove the stupid calls of Goalie interference and would be more entertaining, imagine a skater going towards the cease only to completely clotheslined by the goalie. I see now flaws in this rule change and honestly it should be implemented in the SHL, VHL, NHL. Oh yeah and get rid of the trapezoid. Not only is it a stupid shape but it’s also confusing for new watchers of the sport. I’m sure it has a good reason for existing but I do not care about that reason.

Prompt 2

I would remove the rules around the current sizing of rinks as they are now. Especially seeing how the game can especially speed up and be incredibly difficult to generate space and time when it really counts, iit leans to an increased grinding style especially during the playoffs that, while intense, has a little bit of the slower pace overall in the game. The players themselves have all adapted to move the puck quicker, be more aggressive in attacking the puck and covering their man. These individual battles are great in themselves, I would just love it if it were possible to take advantage of more room on the ice so that individual skill has more opportunities even when players finally are trying 100% rather than the 80% that they would normally be going at during a regular season.

Mostly, increasing the width more than anything should make for an interesting adjustment for the game in the side to side movements that could open up a team.

If I could change one rule, it would be to get rid of offsides - it’s the chaos era and we’re embracing it. What’s the use of making guys tag up when the dman fumbles it at the blue line? Just keep the pace going, keep the play moving and make sure that we’re all home in time to catch the 11 o clock news. This could create some elite goal sucking as guys hide behind the offensive zone net looking for a breakaway pass. There’s also the chance of some really creative looks (eg flying V zone entrance) that just simply would not be possible under today’s set of rules. Now is there value in the offsides rule? I absolutely think so, but hockey is becoming a stale product here and sometimes you have to try a dramatic rule change or four in order to get things going - why not move one of the rules that adds structure to the games and see what happens?

Joining in on the trapezoid haterism that's rampant here (for obviously Correct Reasons). The trapezoid is anti-goalie propaganda. The trapezoid is a creation of frightened little men who fear the full power of a fully kitted goalie coming at them. Free the goalies from their entrapment and just see what happens. The implementation of the trapezoid has destroyed the brains of fans insofar as their understandings of how a goalie can be involved in the play on the ice, with many losing their absolute minds if a goaltender dares to venture more than a foot or two beyond the limits of the crease. Free-roaming goaltenders should be allowed to terrorize the opposing team. It's good for their enrichment. The PWHL goaltenders are a fantastic example of this, as is the "and Fleury is looking to finish his check" incident in the middle of the NHL season. Let the goaltenders be involved in their own defense.

Will Nuck and I have had a friendly rivalry since we joined the SMJHL. Last season we beat his team in game 7 of the semi finals knocking them out of the playoffs I know he took that loss hard. Ever since he has been salty about the L we handed them. So we been having a lil twitter beef lately he been calling out all my mistakes on twitter so I snapped on him and started calling him out on all of his mistakes instead (he has had a lot more) since I started doing what he has been doing to me he has chilled a bit on the twitter shots and been tryna be my friend again. Wait till the next time we meet on the ice I got a feeling there will be one way to resolve our problems and that’ll be dropping the gloves center ice. Neither of us are really fighters so it would at least be an entertaining fight lol.
