[2x Team Spotlight] Hamilton Steelhawks draft numbers
#1

After a temporary break because of the off-season, we are finally back to part 7 of the where do the draftees come from articles. Before we start a few quick changes that have happened:
1: A new SHL draft has taken place, for this article I have not included this SHL draft yet, but I will try to be including them starting the next article (this also means retroactively applying them for the J-team to SHL-team overview).
2: There seem to have been a few changes in the portal, where quite a few players who used to be not in the portal, now have a bit of basic information in the portal (for use in this article, they now have the J-team who drafted them, and the SHL-team who drafted them). This means that there are more stats to take data from, but also that outside of the previous 2 splits (not in portal, and waiver wire players) we now get a 3rd group being that they are in the portal, but don’t have either their J-team if they came from the waiver wire and don’t have their position. I will also be retroactively looking back to the previous teams to add this new draft info into the team overview page.
3: 2 new J-teams joined the league, for this current season these do not matter yet, but if these weekly articles remain into the next season, there is a high likelihood that I won’t be including these new drafts for this article chain. Mainly to keep the numbers comparable to each other.
Then now let us get to the team of this week, being the Hamilton Steelhawks. For the base rules you can once again go back to the first article (Edmonton Blizzard) findable down below.

The Hamilton Steelhawks have drafted 34 players between S62 and S75. Of these 34, 4 were not in the portal, with another 4 coming in from waiver wire. From the total of 34 players there are 9 who don’t have a position in the portal (so 25 who do).

First off, the season in which the draftees were drafted, we see 2 massive spikes both in S65 and S66, with S65 seeing 9 players being drafted, while S66 sees 6 players being drafted. After these 2 massive spikes we need to go to S67, S69, and S72 all seeing 3 players being drafted. Finally 2 players were drafted  in S62 and S71, while 1 player was drafted in S64, S68, S70, S73, S74, and S75.

Next up we have the rounds in which the players were drafted for the SHL draft. More than half of the players were drafted in the 1st round, with 19 players being drafted in that round. The 2nd round has 6 draftees, and the 3rd have 4 draftees. Despite having over half in the first round, it doesn’t mean the Hamilton Steelhawks doesn’t go deep as well, having 2 players in the 4th round, and 1 player in all rounds from the 5th to the 7th.

Before we go to the next part, we first lose all players that are not in the portal, which means we go down from 34 to 30.
Then let us go to the position. For this is does however count that outside  of those 4 not in the portal, 5 more don’t have a position in the portal, which means we only have 25 entries. Of these 25 the  C got the most attention, with 9 players who were drafted being centers, 7 more drafted players are RW, but despite the focus on these 2 positions, the LW position only has 1 draftee. The defense positions have 4 players for the right side, and 3 for the left side. On top of these 1 goalie has been drafted as well.

Next up is the J-draft rounds. On top of the previous mentioned 4 players not in the portal, there are another 4 from the waiver wire, thus this one will only have 26 entries. From these 26 10 went in both the 1st and 2nd round. The remaining 6 players see 5 going to the 3rd round, and 1 in the 5th round.

Finally once again, the nice overviews for the total (and team specific) where the players came from in the J-league.
