I haven’t written in a while, I’m bored as all heck, and figure I could probably use some cash in the next few seasons, so why not give an update on all things me, Agate, Carolina and Seattle.

What’d you miss?

Well, apparently I’ve made a pretty decent SMJHL defender here. My goal was to not be a liability, and hopefully get and skate with the puck a bit before dropping it off to someone who can score. A breakout kind of defender. Now I’ll be honest I can’t really tell if that’s what is happening in the sim. I don’t really watch the sims, and further to that I don’t really look at individual games. I probably should, but as we’ll get to later, that level of commitment has been the least of my worries these days. I just check my little stats and the little standings every few days and watch the tallies go up. It’s nice winning lots these days and watching the team that has worked so hard here finally do well, now that everyone I grew up idolizing has already left (poor timing on that one!).

Seattle looks horrific, and that is great news for me. Hopefully this is the last draft they need to be awful for and we can start seeing some growth next season towards a fringe playoff team. Get the rest of our army of prospects in there right afterwards and carry this thing to the top! I’ll ride out the rest of my SMJHL career happily, enjoying my time in Carolina while I can and be ready to give Seattle my all when my time comes!

I took a bit of a step back from sim leagues as a whole, quietly and thankfully undetected (at least not commented on), for a couple weeks, as I work through moving, in which I will be staying there for a month and then moving again, having my job crumble in front of me (again) and deciding to give up on fixing it, and applying to college again for the fall. Oh and getting things organized to move in with my girlfriend for the first time in June. But thankfully, I’ve simply accepted that life is moving in a difficult but promising direction and I have decided to simply let it be difficult and promising, rather than make it perfect. So back to sim leagues I come, and take my well needed rest from the outside world.

What’s currently happening?

Well Carolina is currently in third, off a very balanced two unit effort and some serious play from the goaltending. I’ve stagnated a bit offensively here these last few days, but I’ve been hanging around in the +/- conversation for most of the season. Really nice to know that someone is benefiting from me being on the ice. I’m playing a ton of ice time which is really nice, getting the trust of my coaches to play all of the time, and being able to say that of that time I’m playing, we’re winning more often than we’re not. Only so much I can control, but in those 22-23 minutes, I can control something. I’m not even a Powerplay Merchant anymore, in fact I should really get my butt into gear with the man advantage, because I’m really slipping there. Of note, I’m doing surprisingly well on my 13 faceoffs this season, winning more than 30% of them!

I did an oopsie on one of my PTs recently, and totally forgot that it was 150 words and not 125. So pretty bummed that I missed out on a TPE for my dumbness, but I’m just glad I didn’t miss out on all of them. Holding on tightly to my tie for second place in TPE in my class, thankfully my lucky guesses in all things predictions this season has gone my way. Should’ve done Casino I guess! Puppy seems really far ahead though, so it’ll take a while to whittle away at that lead, which one day will be mine!

As I said earlier, Seattle looks morbidly awful, but that is on purpose and therefore I love it! Rooting for them to score their 100th goal next game, and really awesome to see my old teammate, future teammate and legend Rence Sykut leading the way with a pretty respectable 37 point rookie campaign so far. Excited to be up in the big leagues with him and the rest of the team soon-ish!

What is coming down the line?

Well I want to earn a boatload of TPE, play for a really long time, and make my mark on the league. I don’t want the quick fix, I want the long, slow and difficult burn. I want to grind my way to a Hall of Fame career, and get Seattle (at least!) a Cup.

And for me personally, I’m hoping I’m in school in the Fall, out of School in the Spring and in a great Co-Op that leads to some great opportunities in the exciting world of Data. I hope to have a wonderful time living with my girlfriend and growing our relationship, and holding each other accountable for giving ourselves the best shot we’ve got at this life. Good things are coming my way, your way and all of our ways. At least better than whatever the heck this currently is!

Lots of love SHL!
