Before we get started we have a some exciting news, The Los Angeles Panthers have re-named a number of the team's awards! It only seemed right after a 10 season absence from giving these out and with all of the excellent players who have played for the organization throughout the years.

The teams Most Valuable Player will receive the Morley Award! Brian Morley was a Panthers legend. One of two players to have his jersey retired by the team, Morley did a ton for the team during his time with the Panthers and was a driving force behind a number o successful teams.

The top scorer on the Panthers will win the Potoczny Award! While he never led the Panthers in scoring, Potoczny was an excellent player during his career with the Panthers. Potoczny scored the most recent cup winning goal for the Panthers.

The Smith Award for top defenseman remains unchanged, Dave Smith was the first ever Panther to have his jersey retired. A unreal defenseman when with the Panthers.

The top newcomer on the team will now receive the Crutchfield Award! Chris Crutchfield was a captain with the Panthers and one of the defenseman in franchise history. The trade that brought Crutch to the Panthers was a huge move! Locker room activity exploded upon his arrival.

The player who displays the most leadership and/or is the biggest presence on the forums, and in the media will receive the Ruutu Award! Jorma Ruutu was an incredible player for the Panthers. Ruutu played 18 seasons with the team and was always a positive locker room presence, representative of the Panthers during his entire career with the Panthers.

The prospect who excels the most in the SMJHL, shows the most dedication to improving will receive the Skarsgaard Award! Jhonas Skarsgaard was a #1 overall selection in a stacked draft class and made a huge impact during his time with the team.

The final change will be for the best two-way forward on the team, the winner will receive the Donini Award! Brandon Donini was a great power forward during his time with Los Angeles, he won the Jeff Dar Award twice during his time with the Panthers.

Alright, with that out of the way, lets get to this years award winners!!

Morley Award - Team MVP: Timo Haas

There is very little doubt to who the Panthers most valuable player was this past season... Timo Haas was unbelievable in net and kept the Panthers in every game that they played. Haas led the SHL with a .921 save percentage, led the SHL with a 2.41 goals against average, and finished second in the league with 4 shutouts. The Panthers couldn't have enjoyed the success they did last season without Timo. Season 39 was the final season Haas would be spending with the Panthers and in the SHL. Timo has announced he plans to return to Germany to finish out his career in the PEHL.

Congratulations <a href='index.php?showuser=2297' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-10'>InciteHysteria</a> ! You enjoyed an incredible career with Haas! Thank you for spending it all with the Panthers.

Potoczny Award - Top scorer: Maximilian Wachter

The Panthers leading scorer during season 39 was Maximilian Wachter! During his second season with the Panthers, Wachter finished the season with a team leading 18 goals and 43 points. S39 was the 6th time during his career that Wachter finished with over 40 points and the 10th time that he has eclipsed 30 points. Wachter is quietly putting up an excellent career and will be remembered as one of the very best forwards of his generation.

Congratulations <a href='index.php?showuser=2059' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-17'>MP7</a> ! You've been a unbelievable addition for the Panthers. Cheers

Smith Award - Best Defenseman: Felix Herzog

Felix Herzog's career took off after he transitioned to the blue-line. Herzog led all Panthers defenseman in scoring with 42 points, good enough for second on the team. Felix finished second in the SHL with 94 shot blocks, proving that he is not solely an offensive defenseman. Herzog led the league in ice time and was somebody that the Panthers turned to in all situations. Herzog is another player who retired after the season, his leagacy with the Panthers will be the final few seasons he spent as a defenseman, it's rare for a player to be able to switch positions, let alone with the success that Felix did.

Grats <a href='index.php?showuser=78' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-13'>Wasty</a>! great success lol

Crutchfield Award - Top Newcomer: Maurice Picard

Maurice Picard joined the Panthers this past season and gave the Los Angeles fans a glimpse of what they can expect in the future. Picard joined the Panthers just one season after being selected in the 2nd round of the S38 SHL draft. Picard's game improved dramatically as the season progressed and he averaged over 13 minutes of ice time for the team. Picard racked up 10 assists, finished with a positive plus/minus rating of +2, blocked 29 shots, and dished out 72 body checks. Picard scored the first goal of his career during the series clinching game of the Western Conference Finals. Picard will play an even bigger role next season and it may not be long before he enters the discussion as one of the leagues top defenseman.

Well done <a href='index.php?showuser=2816' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>academydropout</a>! Great to have you with the Panthers, keep up the great work.

Ruutu Award - Leadership/Media: Sophia Bennett

Sophia Bennett was huge for the Panthers during their playoff run, leading the team with 8 goals and finishing with 15 total points. Bennett finished with 17 goals & 17 assists during the regular season, establishing herself as one of the most dangerous scorers on the Panthers. Bennett is my early favorite to win the Richan next season, I don't think her strong post-season was a fluke at all. Sophia is somebody who always keeps a positive attitude in the locker room. Bennett is well known among her peers and somebody who is well liked throughout the league. She also updated our team history without us even asking which is part of the reason we are updating these awards today!

Congratulations <a href='index.php?showuser=2582' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-30'>goilers</a> ! You deserve this and you're on your way to an incredible career!

Skarsgaard Award - Best/Most Improved Prospect: Geoff Higgins

A late entry to the S39 Draft, The Panthers feel they landed an absolute steal with the 38th overall pick in the draft. Higgins has been working extremely hard in Halifax and has done a lot to improve as a player and prepare himself for the SHL. A team first player, Higgins never had any issue with his lower draft position and has made a positive impact since the day he joined the organization. Higgins has already agreed to a contract extension to keep him in Los Angeles through S43 and is somebody that the organization believes they can build around. Geoff is a very unique player who doesn't just view offensive production as the most important goal. Higgins is a badass, he'll be the first one to crash into the corners and lay somebody out. The Panthers are excited for the day he joins the team.

Congratulations <a href='index.php?showuser=2936' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>DanbyRem</a>! Keep up the good work man. Cheers

Donini Award - Best Two-Way Forward: Maximilian Wachter

Wachter was a finalist for the Jeff Dar Award as the leagues best two-way forward, some people were surprised that he didn't take home the hardware.. So it's no surprise that he was the Panthers best two-way forward last season. Wachter finished with 220 hits and 23 shot blocks, not bad at all for a guy who led the team in scoring! Wachter hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. The Panthers are lucky to have a player who is capable of making an impact in so many ways and adds a unique element to the team.

Congrats MP7! Cleaning house Timo style Wink

Congratulations to all of the winners!!

Also congrats to <a href='index.php?showuser=2005' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-74'>crutch</a> <a href='index.php?showuser=1358' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>jRuutu</a> & <a href='index.php?showuser=579' rel='nofollow' alt='profile link' class='user-tagged mgroup-3'>STZ</a> for having awards named after them!!

I love you all. People say that all the time but this team brought me in during a hard time in my life. You guys all are my friends now and it means a lot. Thank you for this award. But most importantly thank you for being awesome people. LAP is a great team that anyone would be lucky to play for and I hope someday I might get the chance to again.

I wish you all the best in the league, and especially in life. Proud to have spent my entire career in Los Angeles.
