This is the problem with the current SMJHL system. The SMJHL was designed to be a tutorial for new players to learn the league and get some playing time against even competition.

It was never designed to bury new players on the 4th line behind guys with 600 TPE playing their 17th year in juniors.

Doesn't matter after you have 350 though Kappa

@King Adam Taylor is actually at 340. I only have 331 applied right now.

I understand the cap, my point is that once a player has accumulated enough TPE to play on the 4th line of the SHL they shouldn't be in the SMJHL. The SMJHL ice time should go to brand new members. That was the entire point of the creation of the junior league. New members shouldn't be playing under 9 minutes on the 4th line in the SMJHL. That's not good for player retention. Players who have played for a few years and moved up to the bottom of the SHL have no problem fighting their way up the depth chart in the pro league but the rookies in the SMJHL that just joined the site shouldn't be buried on the 4th line just because of send downs.

We need to go back to send down limits. We use to limit teams to 3 send downs total. We should do that again. Open up playing time for people who just joined the league and need to see how the league works.

There's no way i would break the 4th line of my SHL team, maybe next season, should SHL teams have to forfeit picks cause they know they cant send em down?

we're coming off one of the deepest drafts in a while, of course there's going to be more capped players than usual. This isn't the norm.

Some of these players are s40 or s41. This isn't a new issue just for this upcoming season.

What are you talking about? Teams can make the moves necessary to fill their roster and comply with the rules without having to lose picks. Your argument is ridiculous. Again, we use to limit each SHL team to 3 send downs per season. None of them had to forfeit picks.

there's going to be 55 capped players by the start of the season, probably. 15 of those are S42, 9 of them S41 or S40. let's say 12 is the average number of players heading into their second season capped, because im sure a decent number of the guys who are capped from S42 werent capped by season 2. that would leave us with 36 capped players, aka 4.5 per team. that leaves 17.5 spots per team for players to get ice time. It isn't an issue.

You're talking about capped players. What about non-capped players? For example a player who has 225 TPE is going to be played more than a 155 TPE rookie. So they're still taking ice time maybe not on the top line because that's for the capped 350 guys but on the 3rd line that's where you'll have guys that are between 300-200 TPE right? So again your true rookies in the SMJHL are ending up on the 4th line and struggling to get ice time.

Even if you said the goalie, top pair and top line were all capped...that still only leaves 6 forward spots and 2 d spots before you're at the bottom line. And those 2nd and 3rd lines are filled with send downs that are closing in on the cap or inactive but still better than a true rookie.

So again it gets away from the point of the league. We had true rookies on the 4th line in Montreal last season. I know I was one of them. Seattle has like 11 send downs this season. It is a problem.

Yay, my second season going from 3rd line SMJHL to 4th line SHL is going to be so much fun!

Why rush players to the league where the avrage is over 1000tpe?

You want people who just joined the site and got addicted to be stuck on 4th line on thier second season just so that when someone re creates they don't have to spend a season on 3rd 4th?

I don't even
