Nominated for best defensemen means you’re a top 3 defensemen in the league, theres two defensemen per team, there’s two teams, which means four defensemen....

They score more goal and score more point, that easily makes them better defensemen.
They may have lesser differences between GA/60 and GF/60 which calls into question their defensive ability, especially when they are scoring more points, but big numbers for points is nice. Ignore the 2 Giveaway/takeaway ratio, or the reliance on powerplays to score hella points, they get points so they best d-men.
