With the last few seasons going as they have, Nat Emerson has decided to throw his hat into the PGA and see how all that off season golf has helped his game and where he stacks up among the real professionals. I think that with the power Emerson has from his hockey training he is going to be able to hit the long ball just as well as any of the other long time members of the tour. Where he will falter most likely is in his short game. Emerson’s entire hockey career has been based on playing a heavy game. He has never been known for his soft touch or anything like that. Getting to the green shouldn’t be a problem but sending it home will be. He will be very similar to well known not good enough for the SMJHL Happy Gilmore. However, Emerson’s temper has cooled throughout his career so don’t expect any bouts with famed game show hosts on the links.

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - Jericson - 09-28-2020

In the off-season, Elwulf Jericson actually participates in local lumberjack competitions. As a native of Maine, he grew up learning the history of the timber industry in his home state and always made it a point to make it a part of his training. It is actually amazing the workout that chopping wood can give. He was never the strongest person, and very rarely ever qualified beyond the starting round, but he always attempted to get better and stronger. Each event helps focus not just on strength but also balance and quickness as all events are timed. He utilizes these skills to help reinforce his preferred play style on the ice, and vice-versa. The community around the competitions is always fierce and yet welcoming as they are all there for the same thing, to enjoy this wonderful history that they all share. That, and the booze and food is also another factor (although never compete and drink or else you may lose a limb).

Daniel Laforest fresh off the plane from Kelowna to Edmonton is embarking on his SHL career. Being drafted 9th overall by the Blizzard the hype surrounding the young gun is at a high. The province of Alberta has been wanting to bring a professional baseball team for quite some time now so they got together with Daniel's agent and had him sign a PTO with the Colorado Rockies.

This was not a big deal for Daniel because as a child he did actually play both sports while growing up in Montreal. Winter time was hockey and then spent all of summer smacking homers around the baseball fields. Suffice to say that the ground work for a potential baseball career was just as probable as a hockey one. Still swinging a sweet swing which the eye contact gained from baseball complimented his play on the ice. Laforest did pretty good in 2 weeks of spring training as a professional baseball player making regular contact with the ball but the power was just not major league caliber anymore. His defensive work and glove work were no different compared to his defensive skills on the ice...non existent lol!

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - NorwegianDemon - 09-28-2020

Anders decide to sign up for an outdoor soccer league during off season back in Norway to satisfy is competitive side while he waits for the new SHL season to start. He played every Sunday on a full-size pitch with 11 players for both teams. Anders played on this team after one of his friends told him he could join his. Anders had never played soccer before, but he had kick a ball around with his friends. Since he barely had any technical abilities, his teammates decided to put him as a fullback. Since his lack technical ability on the balls, Anders ended up misplacing a lot of passes and dribbles, he was also terrible at crossing the ball and he also had problems synchronizing himself properly to jump when he needed to head the ball. On the other hand, Anders had really good endurance and was one of the fastest players on the pitch for the whole game. He was really comfortable with positioning and ended up breaking down plays and intercepting passes quite often.

Steve Harrington does only one thing - pass. Just like his friend Joseph Joestar used to do in the ISFL as quarterback for the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. Unfortunately Joestar lost the ability to throw the ball after his plane crashed and he took a blow to the head. Harrington would come into the league to pick up where JoJo left off as quarterback. His ability to pass is unparalleled in any sport, and that is a crucial ability in football as the quarterback is the single most important position. This means that Harrington could come in and easily lead Myrtle Beach back to the Ultimini, or play in the ISFL against JoJo. They wouldn't be able to play together because Ramza will be their QB for a long time, but it would have been really cool for them to play on the same team. Maybe if JoJo got traded it could happen. ISFL careers are shorter, so maybe JoJo will wrap up his time there and come join the SHL for a spell? He is quite talented.

Well you may or may not know this but this is not the first sport for big daddy Chad Bork Lazer. Bork Lazer was a professional mixed Martial artist before heading to the ice. Bork Lazer fought for the Championship Fighting Universe for a couple years before making his way to the simulation hockey league where he would be able to make a ton more money.  Bork Lazer has been able to transition his fighting and martial art skills to the ice. Bork Lazer uses his tenacity to get into the heads and make the opposing players commit penalties because he irritates them. If they try to step to the big daddy Chad Bork Lazer he is sure to give them a two piece and biscuit meal and they will be sleeping on the ice and getting carried to the bench. I do believe of Bork Lazer was to go back to the Championship Fighting Universe he would have better footwork, stamina, and balance.

Monkey Mann Jr. never had the fortune or the opportunity to play organized sports as a child, but the closest thing that he had was getting onto a football field once with some other kids his age and playing a game of football with them. Although the rules were two hand touch, Monkey Mann Jr. did not speak english, so he decided to talk people. His natural athleticism really shined through, and he soon became all that people talked about. His knack for cutting and speed as well as his aggression made him a force to be reckoned with on the peewee football field, and eventually, he was completely banned from all sports because he was too good. This ban was held for years until one year, a coach finally felt bad for him and let him join the hockey team. This was a game changer and he thrived in the sport, eventually leading him to the pros. Looking at him now, he absolutely chose the right sport.

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - Salming - 09-29-2020

William Salming is also known for his floorball skills. Floorball is a very similar game to ice-hockey so that's why Salming also excels in that sport. As a youth he was always the star player in his team and scored a lot of goals and assists. Unfortunately due to hockey career Salming needed to stop playing regularly floorball but on the last weekend right before the SMHJL season began, he went to play in minor floorball tournament with his friends. There was two games scheduled on Saturday. In the first game Salming's skills were a bit rusty because floorball stick is much lighter compared to ice-hockey stick and ball is also very different object to handle compared to puck. So, in the first game Salming didn't scored but in the second match he made 1+1. A goal came from the backdoor tap-in and an assist was a great pass from the right wing to the middle. Unfortunately Salming's team lost both games but at least he had a lot of fun while playing floorball after a long break.

During the off-season, Jonas Kahnwald had attracted a lot of attention back at home in Leipzig due to his recent championship with the Berserkers, and fantastic showing with Team DACH, winning rookie of the tournament. He was invited to play at a charity basketball with the BBV Leipzig Eagles. All the players towered over young Jonas as he is only 5'8, but Jonas' quick hands and feet allowed him to create some separation from defenders and create some space for himself, much like in hockey. While playing point guard (he wanted to stick on the point as that seemed natural to him as a hockey defenceman) he carried the ball up the court, called a play that didn't exist, confusing not only the other team but himself as well, faked a pass to the corner, and dashed into the paint. He faked to the right and euro stepped to the left, the crowd was loving it, what fantastic moves from the young german, was he a natural at basketball too? Well the 6'9 center did not think som and promptly swatted Jonas' layup attempt out of bounds. As Jonas' walked off to friendly laughing and jeering and polite applause from the crowd, he decided basketball maybe was not the sport for him.

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - overdoo - 09-29-2020

Saskatoon and Regina are probably the only cities in Western Canada where you wouldn't find hockey as the main sport, but rather football. Hockey was obviously quite popular, and they had their taste of pro hockey, but football was the main thing for kids growing up. Flat fields made it so you could play almost anywhere, and it was easy to find a team to play on. Hutton's average speed, good hands, and height allowed him to play wide receiver, and he wasn't terrible at it. In school, he was almost always the first pick, but he knew what he wanted to do, and it was probably obvious to everyone else he was much more talented on the ice. However, there was a moment in time when Conner considered a football career, it paid more as a pro, he didn't mind playing it, but was the position really in demand? He figured he would likely be below average in the pro scene, and just pursued hockey instead, which may have turned out to be the correct decision.

This offseason, he decided to join one of his old friends from HS, who was drafted to the ISFL. Before the season started, he visited the New Orleans team, and played a couple scrimmages. As a surprise to many, he actually didn't do terrible. Obviously his routes could use some work, but he was making some unexpected catches, for a hockey player at least, and turning a few heads. It was fun for a while, but Conner is happy to be back doing what he does best.

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - JstMaro - 09-29-2020

After last season finished Jst Maro wanted forget all about hockey for a week or two. While he was relaxing in Africa he enrolled for two days local amateur fishing competition. Fishing rod looks a bit similar to hockey stick so what can go wrong?
With his first trow he manged to get tangle ropes with 3 other fishermen. After quick fishing lesion from local 9 years old boy Maro managed to start fishing....in sea. During first day he caught two non-matching flip-flops, a can and five plastic shopping bags. That earned him 'cleaner of the sea' award and a free fish dinner in local restaurant.
For second day Maro was determined to catch a fish. As a true cleaner of the sea, he managed to catch four more plastic shopping bags and just before competition ended his first and only fish. And what a fish that was; almost 4 ft and 9 lbs. With that fish he managed to get 4th place in this competition. As a reward (and penalty for all broken gear) he needed to buy a dinner for all other local fishermen.
Off the record: 10 minutes before Maro's big catch some people reported to see local 9 years old boy going into water with snorkeling gear and big fish in his hands.

Coming from the predominantly mountainous country of Switzerland, Cal Labovitch grew up with skiing and mountaineering. As a young kid, he saw Simon Ammann become the best of the world in ski jumping, while hearing about Alpine skiing legends such as Peter Müller, Pirmin Zurbriggen and Bernhard Russi. At least a few times a month, the young Cal would head into the mountains to go skiing himself. He got scouted for the national training program, but preferred to stick with hockey over a career in alpine skiing. During summers, his dad would take him up into the mountains to do some mountaineering, often camping out in nature for a few days before returning home.

Unfortunately, his Minnesota contract forbids Cal from going skiing, or performing other dangerous activities in the offseason. The Monarchs can't risk their future star forward to injure himself on one of those trips.

Instead, the former Falcon got inspired by another great Swiss athlete. After watching Roger Federer play Novak Djokovic in the 2019 Wimbledon finals, Cal decided to pick up a racket instead of a hockeystick during the offseason, to work on his hand-eye coordination and reflexes. He worked with some of the best coaches and trainers available, and judging by his first two games of the season his efforts have really paid off.

RE: S56 PT #1 - Crossover - Bayley - 09-29-2020

One player who currently plays in the Pro Baseball Experience or PBE that would have an interesting time over in the SHL would be Tyler Swift who is a center fielder for the Outer Banks Aviators. Tyler is someone who really cannot hit the ball very well, so maybe he would not look to hit anyone over here either, I mean, not that Teylora Petrov does that anyway. He is more of a guy who plays defense, so I could absolutely see Tyler Swift doing more of what Teylora does currently. I would see him being a defensive player, maybe not a defenseman though since Tyler Swift is not very big. I mean, maybe he would play a defensive center position such as a Patrice Bergeron type of player. I think it would be really interesting to see how he would do on the ice after putting on cleats and wearing a glove, but I think that Swift may have a tough time adjusting to the SHL, but it surely would be really fun to see.

Phineas Gold wanted to try his hand at something new that also used his skills as a hockey player. He signed up for and entered into a roller derby league with the best intentions of using it as a training mechanism for balance and agility. On the day of the first competition, Phineas heading over to the arena to meet his team and was surprised to see that he was not the only SHL player to try out this sport. He ran into his old buddy Ricky Bobby hanging out having a good time. In no time, Phineas had his skates laced and they were hitting the track as they began the ol circle

Much to Phineas's continued surprise, he found that his tenure as a garbage collector in the league had prepared him for the rough and tumble of the roller derby league. It started out fine until he realized that there was more than meets the eye. By the 2nd half of the roller attack he was fatigued and wiped out much to his own humiliation. Yet at the end of the day, his team was pretty non chalant about it and were just excited to have another body to celebrate with. His team won due to none of his own efforts.

He vows to return to claim the throne one day.
