Time for more rabbling at the rankings being bad.

Top 50 begins now!

50. (S20) LW (Toronto North Stars) Chester Cunningham || +19
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-69

We kick off the top 50 with a 2nd time candidate on the top 100 players of today. Chester Cunningham has jumped up 19 spots to be able to carry the title of a top 50 player in the SHL. 14 goals and 39 points for Toronto was good enough for 3rd in scoring, tied with Kristan Eriksson. He also managed to put up 153 hits and 18 shot blocks.

49. (S20) C (Los Angeles Panthers) - Adrian Thomaz || +8
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-77, S23-57

Adrian Thomaz has done the same thing since he made the list back in S22, and that is move higher and higher. He moved up 20 spots last season, and this year he has jumped another 8 spots to crack the top 50, thanks to his 38 points performance. Thomaz is part of a young but very talented Los Angeles Panthers squad that will be looking to make an impact in S24, and find a way back to the finals.

48. (S20) D (Los Angeles Panthers) - Valterri Bottas || -4
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S22-76, S23-44

The Los Angeles Panthers couldn’t have made a better pick in S20 when they got their leader, and one of their top defensive players in Valterri Bottas. He may have only had 22 points, but it’s his defensive play that makes him worth the praise he gets, his 80 shot blocks are among the elite in the entire league and he eats up over 26 minutes a game on a very deep Panthers’ squad.

47. (S20) LW (Los Angeles Panthers) - Jhonas Skarsgaard || -15
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-76, S21-84, S22-53, S23-32

Jhonas Skarsgaard had what many would call a career year, finishing in the top 20 in points and goals scored with 42 and 22 respectively. Skarsgaard also had nearly 200 hits and 16 shot blocks, so it is very surprising to see him drop 15 spots from last year’s 32nd place finish. However 47th is definitely not something to be a shamed of, and he and the rest of the Los Angeles Panthers know just how valuable he is, and just how high his potential can be.

46. (S20) D (Seattle Riot) Mikko Koskinen || +40
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-86

Mikko Koskinen made the list for his first time last season at spot number 86. However this young defenseman has evolved greatly since then and has had a great season in S23, finishing with 40 points and 53 shot blocks for the Seattle Riot. That has earned him an incredible 40 spot jump right into the top 50 in the entire league. The future is looking very bright for him.

45. (S21) RW (Hamilton Steelhawks) - Rider Clitsome || +37
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S23-82

Ride Clitsome is another 2nd timer on the list who has had a very big raise in the list since his rookie season performance in S22. He made the list at the 82nd spot, however his natural goal scoring ability has pushed him up into the top half of the list at 45. Clitsome had a very impressive sophomore season, racking up 20 goals to his name and being one point shy of the 40 point mark.

44. (S16) C (Texas Renegades) - Alexandre Daigle || +23
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-76, S21-81, S22-59, S23-67

Alexander Daigle had a few seasons of mediocricy finishing a career best 59th best in S22, however after a 14 goal 34 point performance in S23, and a great two way game, he has finally cracked the top 50 and has done so with an impressive 23 spot jump. He and the Texas Renegades will look to further improve from last season and he will hope he can get another big jump into next seasons list.

43. (S16) G (Seattle Riot) - Dustin Rose || +2
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-33, S21-24, S22-20, S23-45

Dustin Rose makes the top 50 for the 4th time in a row, all 4 times he was eligible for the this list, however the Seattle Riot would definitely love for him to get back into top 20 material like he was 2 seasons ago. He is a huge part of the very talented Seattle Riot, however it seems he will be taking a step back for some younger blood to help them out in S24. He is a huge part of the very talented Seattle Riot, however it seems he will be taking a step back for some younger blood to help them out in S24.

42. (S14) G (Texas Renegades) - Jordin FourFour || -24
Grade: 15/20
Past Seasons: S20-16, S21-11, S22-4, S23-18

Jordin Fourfour was once the big dog between the pipes in the SHL. In S22 he finished 4th overall among all players on this list, and was the best ranked goalie. Now he just barely beats out Dustin Rose for 42nd place which is a huge drop off in just 2 seasons. He will be looking to bounce back into form this year, and the Renegades will follow.

41. (S11) D (New England Wolf Pack) - Brandon Cant || -7
Grade: 16/20
Past Seasons: S20-25, S21-17, S22-18, S23-34

Dropping again this year is veteran defenseman Brandon Cant. The wolfpack have used Cant as their top 2 defenseman in the past, but in recent time he has dropped down to a more top 4 role now, as he gets older and older and his production starts to get lower and lower. However his 30 points and 60 shot blocks were good enough to help to the Wolfpack into a good playoff position and ultimately he was a big part of them winning their first ever cup as a franchise.

*Note: Since this was written Cant has been traded to the Chiefs*

I'm confused why retirees are on the list, even if it's based on last season's stats
