- Maxy - 09-27-2013 The coolest part of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is that it's a really cool piece of Gonzo Journalism. To me it makes it far more interesting - Spangle - 10-20-2013 ![]() 8/10 - Really good film. The acting, especially by Jackman and Gyllenhaal, was really good and believable. In addition, the directing did an outstanding job creating the mood. You felt sad when you were supposed to feel sad and you felt scared when you were supposed to feel scared, etc. Overall, a really tense and dark film that is quite successful all-around. ![]() 9/10 - Really funny and really entertaining movie. All of the actors do a splendid job in a comedy that provides more than just laughs, but rather an actually really interesting story. Overall, just a silly, goofy movie that is successful in almost every area it could be. ![]() 8/10 - Certainly an entertaining heist film that fulfills all of its purposes. It intrigues the viewer, it gets you to root for the good guys and against the bad guy, and you are left amazed at how crafty these guys really are as they get what they want. The cast was really good; Wahlberg, Theron, and Norton, all turned in good performances as expected. Overall, it's certainly a movie I'd recommend to people as there's not much wrong with it. ![]() 5/10 - Love Wes Anderson, but this didn't do much for me. Of course, the directing was excellent and the acting was ok, but the story just never really "grabbed me" at all. Now, it isn't a trainwreck by any means, but it's also anything but a good movie. Feels unfinished and lacking in key plot elements that, oh I don't know, make it interesting. ![]() 9/10 - The original film is engrossing, riveting, brilliantly directed, and superbly acted. Easily the best films I have ever seen and also one of the weirdest films I have seen in general. - Jesus The Mexican Way - 10-20-2013 Fargo eh. - Spangle - 10-27-2013 ![]() 8/10 - Really good film. Yes, it was indeed quite slow, but was what I call "good slow", in that it's not so slow that you are bored to death, but rather it is slow like The Godfather is slow as the slow parts build up to the exciting parts. The story is certainly interesting, the acting was really good, and directing was phenomenal as well. Really enjoyed this one. ![]() 8/10 - Really funny movie. This one provided constant laughs from start to end and actually told an interesting story along the way. Good acting, etc. Certainly lived up the hype for me. ![]() 8/10 - Really funny and really easy to watch. The movie is casual and relatable that it makes it even funnier as we watch two friends go through the motions of their work day. Good acting and impressive directing given the small small small budget. ![]() 7/10 - A nice, heartwarming comedy that provides a few laughs and an enjoyable ride along the way. ![]() 5/10 - Not much to expect here, thus it lived up to my expectations. It's pretty much your classic action flick except with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead, which makes it that much better. Jackson really makes this movie, because with him, it would just be a total disaster. But, with him, it's average entertainment. - JNH - 10-27-2013 Captain Phillips. Off a bit in terms of historical accuracy, as always with Hollywood, but I found it enjoyable. Lot of build up time that probably could've been cut out (135 minute film), but I was satisfied. - Spangle - 11-07-2013 ![]() 8/10 - Really good film overall. Gene Hackman is fantastic in the lead role and truly makes this movie. Other than that, it pretty much follows the sports movie formula, but does it so well that you can ignore the carbon copy of a plot. Easy to see why this one is a classic. ![]() 9/10 - A little mix of everything, but really, at the end of the day, this is a stone cold psychological thriller that enjoys messing with your mind. It's engrossing, terrifying, and will leave you wondering what the heck you judge watched; everything a psychological thriller should be. Jake Gyllenhaal shines in the lead role and all of the other actors also do marvelous jobs. ![]() 9/10 - Amazing film. The eerie mood created by Fincher leaves you on the edge of your seat the entire time. There may not be much action, but the story still manages to hook you in and keep you interested for the full 150+ minutes. On that note, it may be 150+ minutes, but it certainly does not feel like that in the least. ![]() 7/10 - Good movie. Certainly funny and provides a quirky, interesting storyline along with it. Overall, it's not fantastic, but it is certainly a good way to spend an hour and a half. ![]() 8/10 - Really good film that delves into the issue of racism from multiple perspectives, yet tells the same story; we all carry some kind of prejudice with us each and every day and these prejudices can have far reaching effects. Overall a really unsettling film. Great cast with great direction from Paul Haggis. Really well done as a whole. - O4L - 11-07-2013 Crash is a fantastic film, glad you finally watched it! - Daco - 11-10-2013 These are sort of different films that some people may not appreciate, but if you're into extremely good dialogue and a real romance film no corny bs, then watch Richard Linklater's trilogy: Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight. I watched these a few weeks back and they're 10/10 easy. Starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. All 3 have above 95% on rottentomatoes, and they get better with each film, although the 2nd is my favorite. - Spangle - 11-20-2013 ![]() 7/10 - Overall good teen comedy. Emma Stone is quite good in the lead role and really makes the movie. Lots of quotable lines and overall a fun, enjoyable experience. ![]() 8/10 - Took a little bit for me to get into it, but once I was in, I was hooked. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are phenomenal, and overall, the film is just incredibly touching and heartfelt. Really good film. ![]() 8/10 - Fantastic war film. Light on character development, but it's not really needed. Completely engrossing and overwhelming as we watch the Battle of Mogadishu completely unfold for nearly the entire film. All of the actors put their heart into this one, as does Ridley Scott, and the result is not the best war film, but certainly one of the best war films. ![]() 7/10 - Quite funny with good music and then, on top of that, I absolutely love Anna Kendrick, so it'd make sense that I like this movie. It's not fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but overall, it's pretty good. ![]() 6/10 - Pretty good film. Nicholson is awesome in the lead role, but it does not make up for the rest of the film. Beautifully filmed, but the storyline is just...boring. Yes, it's dark, heartwarming, and emotional, but it feels like we're cooped up in the asylum as well and are just as bored as the people there. ![]() 9/10 - Absolutely great film. Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance as Solomon Northup is absolutely Oscar-worthy, as is Steve McQueen's direction. The film is emotional, dark, and depressing, everything that you would expect in a film on this topic. With 12 Years a Slave, we are presented a tragically true story and given every gory detail, making this film extremelty uncomfortable to watch, but yet, it's massively important. - Secord - 11-20-2013 12 Years a Slave def a must watch, great movie, go see it people. - GroupMeIsKindOfOkay - 11-20-2013 Quote:Originally posted by Spangle@Nov 20 2013, 03:28 PM you suck - Buster - 11-20-2013 One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was a much better book. It'd hard watching the movie after reading the book - Spangle - 12-01-2013 ![]() 9/10 - Beautiful, engrossing, and tragic, this film is all of those and more. Beautifully directed by Roman Polanski and Adrien Brody excells in the lead role. Absolutely brilliant film. ![]() 8/10 - Really well done blockbuster film. Funny, exciting, and good acting, especially from Johnny Depp make this movie extremely entertaining. While it could have been a lot more "badass", I kinda liked that they strayed from that and instead went more family friendly with it. I think it adds a certain tone which really adds to the movie. ![]() 7/10 - Pretty good movie right here. Entertaining action scenes throughout that really carry the film. I thought the romantic aspects were a little too much, but other than that, I liked it. ![]() 5/10 - 42 was ok, but nothing more. Chadwick Boseman did great as Jackie Robinson, but other than that, I think the acting left a lot to be desired as did the character development. Of course, Jackie should be the focus, but I didn't even know the names of some of the supporting characters until the end. In addition, the directing was not that great and did not feel like a feature film. However, despite those negatives, I did enjoy 42 and thought it was an interesting look at Robinson's struggles. ![]() 7/10 - Really good movie. I preferred it to the first Thor for sure. Honestly, I think this is one of the better superhero movies I have seen. Tom Hiddleston was fantastic as Loki, as were Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman in their roles. Overall, a really well acted and well directed sequel that really does a good job moving the series forward. Also, it was extremely funny, which was unexpected. ![]() 6/10 - As always, Denzel Washington delivers, but where this movie fails is in the direction. The jarring effects shown at times is a major turn off and leaves the viewer wondering if it is worth it to go on. However, for an action movie, it is pretty good and provides some good thrills and suspense along the way. Sure, it's not a cinematic masterpiece, but it's still entertaining and overly criticized by the critics. - Spangle - 12-07-2013 ![]() 9/10 - Right when I thought I had seen the oddest film ever, a new contender comes along. Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange is extraordinarily weird, yet also brilliant. Not only is it beautifully filmed (as expected), but it raises numerous cultural issues as well. Odd, elegant, violent, and brilliant, A Clockwork Orange is certainly a classic. ![]() 8/10 - Wow, talk about aiflm with an overwhelming amount of unnecessary hate. Equilibrium is a very high quality sci-fi action flick with great sequences of drama, along with a fantastic performance by the ever brilliant Christian Bale. His performance alone lifts this up from your ordinary action movie to something much more. ![]() 8/10 - Just absolutely brilliant. Philip Seymour Hoffman is impeccable as Truman Capote, as well as the rest of the cast. Director Bennett Miller sure has a knack for biopics, as both this as "Moneyball" are amazing works. With this film, it is most certainly slow and it took a bit to hook me in, but once I was hooked, I was two feet in until the end. ![]() 2/10 - Horrible movie. Sure, it raises a good point about how race relations turns into tragedy, but at the end, it just makes you hate everyone in the movie and wish for it to end. Ultimately, the only tragedy is how bad the movie wound up being. In addition, even before the "tragic" ending, it was beyond boring and I almost shut it off, but wanted to see how it would end. Boy was I disappointed. ![]() 2/10 - It felt more like a random assortment of shots more so than a film. I get that it was extremely low budget, but maybe not releasing this one as a feature film would've been a better idea because I think there's more grains in this video than there are grains of sand on the beach. Only affect I enjoyed was the black and white. I felt that it added to the thrill/suspense intended, but otherwise, despite Max's growing insanity, it does not really provide any thrills that I was hoping for. Ultimately, it just left me confused. - xDParK - 12-07-2013 Grease 10/10 |
