A helping hand instead of a heavy hand would have been the better path to go. The world is not black and white, we live in color. We want rules, we need them, but at what expense? When does following a rule become detrimental? This is a prime example, and from my perspective it’s the releasing of the players and not allowing them back with their team. I feel for the HO team, and most of the leaders who take on a job like that believe in following the rules to the letter. I think they’re in a difficult position, that being said, I believe you should let Smitty and the rest of them go back to their teams. ![]() RE: TBB Illegal Roster Punishment - ZootTX - 04-23-2025 I've never understood why there is an official league budget and teams also have their own individual budgets as well. Have one, managed by budget team. Also, contract acceptance should be defined by the acceptance of a valid contract posted on the site, no need to complicate things by allowing DM acceptance to count. Not sure if I think the punishments are too heavy-handed or not. The number of teams with this violation indicates that the process could be improved to prevent this in the future, but 16 teams did manage to do this properly. A helping hand instead of a heavy hand would have been the better path to go. Just to provide a little insight on our thought process here: We've gotten feedback from a number of GMs (some of whom are on this little list) that the free agency process was "pointless" with the crasher rule in place (people wouldn't even get a chance to talk to free agents before they already crashered themself somwhere) - that the free agency list (which was hand managed by head office for a very long time) was often late and inaccurate (a completely fair criticism because it was a bear of a project that had to be completed every single season around the same exact time we're usually re-hiring). These changes were made to make sure that GMs had an updated free agency list, and to make sure that GMs had a window in which to discuss contracts with players in which they could reasonably expect to do so without the "sorry, I'm crashered already" ten minutes after FA opened. We wanted both GMs and players to be able to have that. When we announced this, it was pretty well-received (I don't remember anyone having anything negative to say about it at the time, actually, which is pretty uncommon for an HO decision :') When we announced the "you MUST move your FAs" - we soft launched it. We didn't have the consequences fully fleshed out yet, so we treated it like a missed GM task, and the punishment that went along with that. This was in September of last year. We then went on to create specific guidelines for non-movement of FAs, and those were voted on and announced in December of last year. Even then, there was confusion. People were crashering themselves before the freeze and at that time we said "okay, because we didn't explicitly state this, we will allow you to sign those players at this time, but for next time, ALL CONTRACTS NOT POSTED BEFORE THE FREEZE ARE VOID." There was confusion, and we clarified. The wording is explicit that players who have not had a contract POSTED by the time the freeze begins MUST be moved to FA in the portal. At that time, they're welcome to come back to their team as soon as the freeze is lifted, but the rule is extremely clear. We announced this, pinging the GMs, multiple times, we pinged them with reminders. We pinged them with reminders that were even more specific than the rulebook, because of the questions that had been asked the previous season, in case there was any confusion. We have absolutely gone out of our way here to make allowances, to make things clearer, to tell people exactly what is expected of them. At the end of the day, I absolutely sympathize with the human element here. We don't want to take people off of teams they want to be on, but we are also really struggling to figure out how to get people to follow the rules. We've been patient. We've offered a lead-up period. We've reminded and re-reminded. And we know it's not malicious, but at some point, it is just unfair to the people who do follow the rules and procedures to just hand wave things, to not follow the guidelines we've set down because we just kinda feel bad for the people involved. I'll be honest with you, I never want to punish anybody. I wish we never had to. I know there's this idea that I/we have some kind of "vendetta" against certain teams or that we get off on punishing people but we really don't want to have to talk about this stuff. We want to be working on cool projects and thinking of ways to make this ever-evolving community even better. If appeals decides to soften any of these punishments, I'm not going to be angry about that because you know, I don't like, enjoy seeing people unhappy. I really don't. But we made rules, we stated consequences, and the rules were broken, and as a Head Office, it's our responsibility to follow through on that, not to arbitrarily decide "we kinda feel bad about this so we're gonna give you a freebie this once" RE: TBB Illegal Roster Punishment - MrPresident - 04-23-2025 04-23-2025, 09:01 AMunconfident69 Wrote: mcdonalds spicy egg wrap, chocolate muffin and a cranberry orange muffinBut if you had to, would you have been able to eat a whole bagel in one sitting? It's an honor to have so many historic members of our fine community have a revival of interest about what is going on around the league even if they are not actively participating in it. Rage bait is awesome, It's a luxury. it's a confirmation that there's reasonable free speech. It should also be encouraged by all leadership positions as it's a privilege to deal with. We often forget this is a place of entertainment and escape, this is the most action the forum has had in a long time (still disappointed that there's no thread team...shl has changed). Rage bait isn't my cup of tea, as I think it's got to take a sad person to take joy in other peoples pain but what do I know. I was a little disappointed to see HO bite on the bait, but even I don't have full comprehension of how much time they are putting into this DnD hockey league. I think it's wise to lock threads if nobody is able to moderate them. Everyone ought to have time to themselves to decompress and separate. So people know, the comment on Bap, Nola and Minnesota was a top tier joke. Those GMs have been some of my favorite people on the site when I've interacted with them. I was about to post "2 of our 3 losses this season have come to baltimore and nola...monkas". We just haven't played Minnesota yet #6.5overgang rise up RE: TBB Illegal Roster Punishment - Gwdjohnson - 04-23-2025 @unconfident69 you've inspired me I'm walking to mcds rn |
