ANA/BDonini Punishments - Inf1d3l - 01-22-2020
This morning SMJHL HO was informed of a situation involving BDonini, ANA, STL, and EDM by proxy. We in SMJHL HO take this matter very seriously and over the last 10-12 hours we have deliberated on the best way to proceed based on screenshots provided to HO and information given to us.
Simply put, BDonini/ANA contacted a player, who was inactive at the time and on St Louis' roster, about returning to the league and getting onto Anaheim's roster. Donini then contacted the management team of Edmonton about sending down or replacing this player so that he could sign him in Anaheim, after which he proceeded to sign the player in question as an IFA under 200 TPE. Shortly after the player updated a large amount of TPE, rejected the contract offered by Edmonton, and accepted a contract with Anaheim. Based on this, and other evidence, we in SMJHL HO have determined this is defined as tampering.
Also, due to the state of the rosters in the SMJHL, the player was still technically on St Louis' roster as well until GM tasks are finalized, which also defines this as an illegal signing.
Based on this ruling, the following punishment will be set forth:
The forfeiture of ANA S53/S54 1st round picks
ANA will lose the ability to sign Free Agents for the entirety of Season 52
ANA will be penalized $6M against their S53 cap.
BDonini will forfeit his salary for S52
AlexF (the player in question) will have his SMJHL rights owned by St Louis until the rosters are finalized, in which case if St Louis does not sign him, he is free to pursue other SMJHL teams, but may not be a member of the Anaheim roster for Season 52. (Ie, cannot sign, be traded to, or otherwise join the team)
