Recent WJC Champions - By-Tor - 10-19-2022 Recent WJC Champions
In continuing the WJC theme, we will review the recent champions of the tournament. These illustrious winners will forever be enshrined in the SHL. Some teams are very successful at defending their skill level, others are not so good. Usually, these victories follow a trend over the years as players get called up and new players are created. Some teams have the benefit of selecting from large player pools like Canada, USA, or DACH. Since the junior level tpe is capped at 425, competition can be very steep at the top of the skill curve.
Before we dive in, here is a very short overview of the players included in each team: Team Composition: British Isles: Any player from the British Isles, plus transfers Canada: Any player from Canada, plus transfers DACH: Any player from Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, plus transfers Finland: Any player from Finland, plus transfers Ice/Young Guns: Usually young players that cannot make any other roster North America: Any player from Canada or USA that does not make either national team, plus transfers Sweden: Any player from Sweden, plus transfers UCORCAL: Any player from Russia, Czechia, and Latvia, plus transfers United States: Any player from the United States, plus transfers World: Any player from any birthplace outside those listed above, plus transfers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ S66 Tournament: Gold: DACH Silver: USA Bronze: Canada Round Robin Leader: UCORCAL Top Scorer: Sophie Bordeleau, UCORCAL S65 Tournament: Gold: DACH Silver: USA Bronze: Sweden Round Robin Leader: USA Top Scorer: Lesgo Brandon, USA S64 Tournament: Gold: Canada Silver: Finland Bronze: DACH Round Robin Leader: Canada Top Scorer: Lesgo Brandon, USA S63 Tournament: Gold: Finland Silver: Canada Bronze: DACH Round Robin Leader: Canada Top Scorer: Pope Coswi, USA S62 Tournament: Gold: British Isles Silver: USA Bronze: World Round Robin Leader: Canada Top Scorer: Grogu Mandosson, Finland S61 Tournament: Gold: USA Silver: Sweden Bronze: Finland Round Robin Leader: Sweden Top Scorer: Evil AllBran, USA S60 Tournament: Gold: British Isles Silver: Sweden Bronze: DACH Round Robin Leader: Sweden Top Scorer: Ric Charlesworth, Sweden S59 Tournament: Gold: DACH Silver: Finland Bronze: World Round Robin Leader: DACH Top Scorer: Logan Wong, Canada S58 Tournament: Gold: Finland Silver: DACH Bronze: British Isles Round Robin Leader: DACH Top Scorer: Adrian Ayers, British Isles S57 Tournament: Gold: Finland Silver: Sweden Bronze: Canada White Round Robin Leader: Finland Top Scorer: Asclepius Perseus Flitter, UCORCAL S56 Tournament:

Currently, DACH is two-time defending champions of the gold medal, beating USA both years. UCORCAL shot to the top of the round robin leaderboard last year, only to nab 4th place. @boom Finland always seems to be in the mix with a total of 8 medals over 14 seasons. What will happen next year? Stay tuned in the coming weeks to find out.
